everyone loves that time: apartment hunting time! i'm looking for at least 600 sqft, w/d included or connections, no more than 5-8 miles from 12th and trinity, no freeways necessary to get there if possible, and i don't want to pay more than $600.
i went and looked at some places today, and was wondering if anyone that has any experience with these complexes (or knows anyone that does) could give me sort of the inside scoop. what do/did you like, not like? how's the maintenance? is the management a pain the butt or are they flexible, etc? how about the neighborhood: did you feel safe? scared? was your car broken into? etc.
barton's lodge (3816 s. lamar blvd, 78704) - i am a bit concerned about the maintenance here, since the paint is peeling off the outside of the buildings. it's not that i care that much about that personally. it's that i fear that is somehow a sign of how concerned they will be with what is broken inside my apartment.
the villas at oak run (1508 southport dr, 78704) - the parking lot here looked VERY dark to me, and it was only dusk. i was concerned about the safety issues. also, the inside didn't seem super well taken care of, but this unit wasn't ready for move-in yet.
archstone monterey ranch (4701 staggerbrush rd, 78749) - typical corporate managed complex. huge, new, nice. but i'm worried that the drive into downtown will just annoy me, and that's why i am moving in the first place.
stoney ridge (3200 south first, 78704) - i haven't gotten to see this apartment yet, just the outside of the place, but it looks pretty nice. the drive into downtown would be awesome, and there's a cute looking coffee shop right across the street. i love that area of town, but i want to be sure it's safe.
also, if you have any other suggestions of places i should check out, i'd really appreciate it.
thank you so much in advance!!

Anyone out there know anything about car stereos, and the installation of them?
I've got a JVC KD-S580 that I'm trying to install in a 96 Jeep Cherokee. I'm pretty sure I have the wires hooked up right. When I power the unit on, though, it immedaitely displays "SEE YOU" and powers off.
I've been trying to find information on the Web, without much success. JVC site is no help. Anyone have any information I might be able to use, skills I can tap, search terms I can borrow? Anything?
