Another try

  • Jan. 9th, 2003 at 12:03 AM

A few weeks ago I posted a roommate ad here, but haven't had any luck, so now I'm considering the very real possibility that I'll have to move. If anyone is searching for an awesome complex in a good location, on UT shuttle routes for $362.50+half bills/month, look here for one of the original ads and drop me a comment/email/IM if interested, as it's still available. Otherwise:

I'll probably need a room in late February, the 22nd at the latest. I'm 22, a UT English major, guitarist/keboardist/occasional singer, though I'm very quiet and respectful about my music. I'm very clean, easy-going and honest.

I'm looking for folks with lots of the same qualities. I'd like to pay $400 or less, and I'd need to be on the UT bus route. I have a friendly clean dog, but as she's a service dog, the complex doesn't need to be pet-friendly, nor will they charge a pet deposit, so all that is required are roommates who would be cool with a dog.

I'm not as good at describing myself as I'd like to be, though I'm very honest in my journal, so if you'll have a room available late next month, or if you're interested in mine, feel free to check it out and ask whatever questions you like.

I just would like to tell Austiin Community that I have done the unthinkable. I have completed my first fast.

Here's the scenario: I read about them in magazines, how fasting can help clean you out and get rid of toxins and assorted stuff like that. I start thinking to myself, what a way to start the year. So I plan on going on a seven day fast, despite the naysaying that "I could never do it" (if you only knew how much I love food), or that "it wasn't healthy." The more and more people I talked to, it seemed as if everyone who had done one extolled its virtues, while anyone who was uninformed thought it was "unhealthy or dangerous."

My original plan was for seven, but I still consider fasting for five days a success. Ingesting nothing but water and fruit juices diluted 1:1 with water, I made it five days. Was it as hard as it seems?? No. I just kept myself occupied. I slept better than I had in months. Expect to go to the bathroom alot. The only reason I stopped at 5, was by the end of day 5, I got pretty loopy. No big hunger pangs, but I felt like the day after an ecstasy roll, combined with being a little stoned....basically I was feeling a little delirious. (in a good euphoric kinda way). As I ended it, I started eating back again slowly, enjoying some Cream of Mushroom soup MORE than I ever have in my entire life.

Today: I feel great. I'm energized. I feel a litlte thinner. I feel alot more energetic and clean. I wanna go run a mile. I wanna go work out. And despite the voice in my head that tells me Golden Corral is waiting, I wanna eat healthier too. Point being, for those of you who have weight problems: if you can maintain a fast for five days, you CAN change the way you live. You CAN change the way you eat.

So my testimony goes with the pro-fasting crowd. Plan it out, explore the Internet, question your doctor if you have a shaky medical history. But trust me, do it, and you will see the wonders I am talking about!!!
(I'm also $60 richer, and dont have to clean my house from top to bottom, ALL rooms, while my roommates sit on lawn chairs and drink beer and laugh at me (our bet)).

The theatre is located about a block east of Eastside Cafe and Hoover's Cooking, just about a mile or less east of IH35. From the makers of VORTEX’s hit theatre ritual, Dark Goddess, VORTEX Repertory Company is proud to present the world premiere of Holy Well and Sacred Flame, a theatre ritual for the Goddess Brigid. Over the past three years, VORTEX has presented Dark Goddess to packed houses in the sacred space of ritual. In a work unlike any other, these magical performances are intimate and transformative, transcending the typical evening in the theatre.

This all-new production honors Brigid, Celtic Goddess and Christian Saint. Goddess of poetry, healing, and smithcraft, Brigid offers great inspiration and source material for the creation of this world premiere ritual theatre event. Original poetry, music, and storytelling interweave to create a magical evening. Join us for an evening of challenging and affirming magic in this mid-winter’s feast at The VORTEX.

Directed by Bonnie Cullum. Lighting Design by Jason Amato. Scenic Design by Ann Marie Gordon. Costume Design by Kari Perkins. Musical Direction by Content Love Knowles.

Also, it's FREE.
