Hi! New Here. I was so looking forward to participating in the official NaNoWriMo, but the closer we get to November 1, the more I realize that if I try to write 50,000 words in NOVEMBER, I am dooming myself to failure. November is absolutely the worst month of the year to make a major commitment to a writing project. So I looked around a little and found this small community of like-minded folk who agree that August is much better for writing, and I want to be part of this. I know August is a long ways off at this point, but at least I'm making the commitment now.

If you want to know anything about me, I've been writing Lizzie McGuire FanFiction for about three years now, and during that time, I did NaNoWriMo twice. Once I succeeded, once I failed. Succeeding felt marvelous, failing felt awful. You know how it is.

Anyway, I wonder if these next couple of weeks might be a time when more people will want to sign up for writing in August---people like me who want to succeed at writing, but don't want to start with the deck stacked against them.

We all know about November being a time when the holidays begin, and for students there might be a heavy school schedule. I've also heard mention of how difficult writing in November is for people who work in retail. For me, November is also about college football. Football? ...Or writing?....Hmmm....As much as I enjoy writing, that could be a tough choice.

So, as I introduce myself, I also want to put a question out there: what reasons do you all have for preferring August to November for massive amounts of writing? What is good about August? What sucks about November? Might there be a different month that would suit you even better?

Well, hope to be visiting here more often as we get closer to August. Just stopping by at this point to say "Hi!" :)

So I'm doing my first ever AugNoWriMo, and I'm pretty excited. I just started yesterday, five days into the month, but I'm confident.

I'm posting my story as it's written on it's own LiveJournal community!

My current word count is going okay, I think.

And I've only been writing for one and a half days!

God I am so bloody slack. I am averaging between 200-300 words a day so far on AugNoWriMo and this is not the way one goes about hitting 30k in a month! I'd be okay with this if there was actually some legitimate reason, like having to work a day job in between stints of writing, but you know what? There is nothing, nada, zilch of anything LIKE a good reason for this! It is all down to my own freaking slackness. I play with the Nintendo DS and do French instead of writing, or I chat and fool about on email and stuff, instead of writing, or I watch episodes of Supernatural, or goof off at youtube all day instead of writing!!! It's not good enough! I need a kick in the pants. Grr!

For the members who are not a part of the AugNoWriMo forums, this is what you NEED to do if you want to be declared an official winner of AugNo (and hopefully get nifty little certificate/banner thingies):

if you use two different usernames over at the forums and here on livejournal, email your novel based on your username at the forums.

The Word Count you are Currently Listing vs Word Count Goal (So, for example, 50,230 / 50,000)

and, uh, don't forget to attach your novel as a .html, .doc, or whatever it is you use. ;)


I can guarantee that we - the mods - won't read what you've written but if you still need or want the extra precaution, you can always scramble it -

TO SCRAMBLE YOUR AUGNO NOVEL
1. SAVE A SECOND COPY! This is imperative! If you don't, you'll be left with just the scrambled version and all your work will have been for nothing!
2. Open the Find and Replace dialog box [either through the Edit -> Replace menu or by hitting Ctrl+F and clicking the tab for Find and Replace]
3. Check the "Use Wildcards" checkbox.
4. In the "Find What" field, put this: [a-zA-Z0-9]
5. In the "Replace With" field, put this: a
6. Click "Replace All"
7. Save this as your second copy and add THIS FILE to your email. :]

Email your novels to the mods by no later than September 3!

Hey all!

I just found the community, though I'm janedoe on the forum thingy (http://augnowrimo.proboards85.com/index.cgi). I have a plan, but I haven't started. I meant to last night, but I fell asleep when I got home from work and didn't wake up till 11 pm, and then I was groggy. But today! Today there are no excuses--I'm getting caffeinated and I'm gonna get writing.

I'm going for 30k--a novella.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi!
