This is a community for survivors of all types sexual abuse, specifically molestation. Whether it be by a family member, friend, neighbor, or stranger; whether you remember it or not; we are ALL welcome here. I created this community in the hopes that this will be a place where sexual abuse survivors can come and share their stories, thoughts, and feelings, and find support - without feeling as though their stories are of lesser importance than others' - just because they may lack severity in comparison. There are many other wonderful support communities out there, but I have felt somewhat excluded from some because my story didn't match up in violence or trauma. I want everyone here to feel safe, supported, and taken seriously.
You do NOT have to post to be a member of this community. If you want to join, but don't feel that you are ready to talk about your situation, that is fine. As long as you feel that being a part of the community will be beneficial to you, please don't worry about the posting aspect. Apply for membership, and then if you wait six months to post, that's fine. If you never post, that's fine. If you just post to say "I'm here but I don't want to talk about it yet", that's fine. Whatever you feel you need to do. Everyone is welcome here.
Let me just make it clear right away that trolling and/or flaming will NOT be tolerated. If you insult, degrade, taunt, or cause undue negativity in this community, I will not hesitate to ban you. This is a safe place. This is a serious topic. There is no need for any of that. You support others or you leave. And that's the bottom line.
Now, just a few simple guidelines and you can be on your way:
- Please stay (generally) on-topic. When I say this, I don't want people to examine their posts for anything that could be off topic. If it has to do with abuse, how you feel as a result of the abuse, or this community, it's fine. But please, please... no quizzes!
- If you are going to tell your story, that is more than welcome, but please place it behind a cut. The same goes for talking about self-injury and suicide. Something in your story may be triggering for someone else, and I know nobody wants to cause unnecessary stress for anyone. So please, PLEASE respect this rule. And furthermore, if something is placed behind a cut, everyone should assume it may be triggering. That way, there will be no confusion. You can find instructions on how to place a cut into your post here.
- Advertising for other communities is okay, as long as it's relevant to this community. Meaning, if it's an abuse community, feel free to tell everyone about it.
- Poetry, artwork, and photos are welcome. If you have more than one photo, please use a cut. iIf the poem[s] or photo[s] may be triggering, please use a cut.
