Atlanta Gallifreyans meeting this Saturday, June 21st, at 4:30 PM
I just wanted to remind everyone in the metro (and beyond) Atlanta area that the next meeting of the Atlanta Gallifreyans (Atlanta's own Doctor Who club) is tomorrow, Saturday June the 21st, starting at 4:30 PM at the Doraville Civic Center. (The civic center is within walking distance of the Doraville Marta station, and is a block or so away from the Buford Hiway and I-285 intersection. Directions at the AG site, below.)

Please bring one of the following: food or drink or plate and napkins and plastic cutlery with which to share with all, if you can. :)

We will be watching the last part of The Greatest Show in the Galaxy (time constraints kept us from watching all the way to to the end last month, alas). We're in the middle of watching a Seventh Doctor episode per meeting. Next up is Battlefield. We should be finished with McCoy by October at the latest, which means that we will be returning to the Third Doctor with The Three Doctors, just in time for the show's anniversary month in November! :)

The Tenth Doctor episodes that we should be watching include Silence in the Library, Forest of the Dead, and Midnight. If we are lucky, we will also be watching Turn Left! We are skipping The Wasp and the Unicorn for now, since it was just shown on the Sci-Fi Channel, so most everyone has had a chance to see it hopefully.

The site for the club is here:

Directions are on the site.
Any further questions about the meeting, please ask here. :)

TimeGate in 2009
TimeGate is the Doctor Who and Stargate con for Atlanta, GA, USA.

For those of you who have attended previous TimeGates, you know that we put on a great little con. :) No over-crowding, and with plenty of time to stop and chat with our guests, local and international, and all the other interesting attendees. We had such a grand time with this last one that we will be doing it again. *beams*

Please check the updated site, with a new look, here:

http://www.timegatecon.org

The major guests haven't been announced as yet, but we do have some guests already. And for those of you who have been at some of the earlier one-day TimeGates, Barry Clark and his amazing life-sized Dalek will be returning next year! :) Barry and the Dalek have been also at the last few Dragoncons; last year, he was hanging out with the R2 builders at the bottom of the first set of escalators in the Marriott.

At any rate, please bookmark the site, if you haven't already, and keep checking back for news of our major guests, our TG store, membership prices, con-suite goodies, panels, dealer and fan tables, and more. :)

TimeGate happens over Memorial Day weekend.

TimeGate VI is happening this weekend! :)
Folks, please don't forget that TimeGate VI is happening this weekend. We are now a four day con, staring up Friday afternoon, May 23rd, and going through Monday afternoon, May 26th, at the Holiday Inn Select on the top end of I-285. Still in Atlanta, GA, USA.

We do have three tracks of programming, one for Doctor Who, one for Stargate, and one for everything else. :) Our GoHs are Tony Amendola (Master Bra'tac on Stargate SG-1) and John Levene (Sergeant Benton on Doctor Who), and they will be on panels, as well as giving autographs all weekend. We have many other guests as well:

Dr. Kevin Grazier (science adviser for Battlestar Galactica and Eureka)
Lars Pearson (Doctor Who author and publisher, Mad Norwegian Press)
Christa Dickson (Buffy and Angel author)
Louis Robinson (former Doctor Who film editor and Sherlock Holmes buff))
Jana Oliver (fantasy / paranormal author)
David Harmer (game designer and costumer)
The Atlanta Radio Theatre Company
The Might Rassilon Art Players
Hyperdrive
Professor Satyre's Sci-Fried Show

The website is here, with tons of info, like directions to the hotel, and the complete schedule of events:

We have a wonderful con-suite, a cabaret, a costume contest (and two costuming panels), great selection for the video room, and much more.

We hope to see many of you present!

good wig shop in the northern part of Atlanta?
I'm looking for recommendations for a good wig shop in the metro area, preferably on the north side of town, but can go most anywhere, if the shop has what I want. To be specific, I need a blonde wig, hitting about the shoulder blades. Colouring should be very light, but not platinum. I don't want it to be heavy, as I will have to wear it for a whole day. I will also need to put it into two loose braids. My icon gives an idea of what I'm looking for. And I don't want to spend too much on it, but decent quality is a must. I need it by this Friday at the latest.

Any suggestions for a good shop would be appreciated. :)

Yes, I want to cosplay as Rose again. :)

Meisha Merlin books need rescuing this week!
From the Orac list (and please pass it along):

<http://eugie.livejournal.com/364858.html>

To All You Book-loving Atlanta Locals:

I just got a note from Sean Wallace, Publisher/Editor with Prime
Books/Wildside Press. It seems that SF/F publisher Meisha Merlin,
which declared it was shutting down in November, has a rather large
amount of stock (tens of thousands of books) in its Stone Mountain
warehouse (1440 Kelton Drive, Stone Mountain) that needs to be rescued
or it will all be destroyed/recycled.

Sean is renting a truck which can fit fifteen pallets, single-stacked,
or thirty double-stacked, but there's no forklift available, only a
pallet jack. So he has to fill the truck by hand. He'll be in town
Tuesday and Wednesday (4/22 and 4/23) to load up, and he's asked me to
spread the word that he's desperate for volunteers to help him. Anyone
who volunteers can cart off any books they want that don't fit into
the truck.

If you can help out or know of folks who might be able to, email Sean
at: seanwallace at comcast.net
