quick thought about Ten and Martha (SPOILERS)
Seriously, don't read if you haven't see Smith and Jones and The Shakespeare Code.
Under the cut, of course.
Is it just me, or does any one else out there want to slap Ten for the clueless way he's treated Martha so far, as far as any "relationship" might go?
Okay, look, I don't want to ship them particularly, but then I wasn't sure about shipping Nine/Rose or Ten/Rose either, at least not on the show itself. As someone I know has said, that's what fanfic is for. On the other hand, the shipping on the show is rather obvious, with the UST between Nine and Rose, and the cute teenage flirting between Ten and Rose.
So. David himself said in some interview that he thinks it's been a while since the events of The Runaway Bride. But it's obvious from the first two eppies of this season that Ten is still mightily hung up on Rose.
And so he's oblivious, or pretending to be, to the effect that he's having on Martha.
When he stood at the corner on the street round from her brother's party, and gave her that "follow me" look, and disappeared around the corner, most chicks would have followed. (At least, those of us hung up on DT, but still, that sort of look can be hard to resist, esp. if one doesn't want to.) And she goes around the corner to find him leaning up against the TARDIS, and damn if that's not a winning look he's giving her! And then the whole tie bit! If that wasn't an open invite, I don't know what is! *laughs at self*
Then, he gets her inside, and things change. Indian-giver, I would call it. He mocks her as she says the famous words. He's very stern with her at the TARDIS console when she talks about "dating", and she's smart enough to tell him she likes only humans. But as she looks down, oh I felt so sorry for her. I think we all know what it's like to be rejected before one even has a chance to begin. :(
But then, to add insult to injury, in The Shakespeare Code, in the inn's bed scene, he really needs a clue-by-four! Saying all this stuff about how wonderful Rose was, and just, oh, I got mad at that moment on her behalf, and again felt so sorry for her. I wasn't surprised when she angrily blew out the candle or when we saw them the next morning, she was facing away from him.
I think that just maybe at some point when Martha can't take enough of hearing how Rose was so great, as long as they are back on Earth in Martha's time, she's gonna slap him, and run out of the TARDIS. And he's gonna just stand there, with a hand to his face, wondering out loud why she did that.
Clueless. Just clueless.
