Project Rocky Runway [Jul. 22nd, 2008|03:40 pm]

lizzyfur
[Current Mood | excited]

The second of our costume related challenges is "Project Rocky Runway..." Many of you may have participated in OM or DI as a youngster - this is inspired by that creative type of competition. Combined with all of those times that you forgot a costume piece and realized it last minute, making it work with whatever you could find =)

----

The scene: It’s 11:49, several of your performers have not shown up for the show, and you have no costumes to speak of. Every Rocky Cast members NIGHTMARE! What do you have lying around the theater? How can you possibly put on the show with only 5 performers, and scraps leftover backstage?

Your challenge is to create costumes for as many of the major players in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” using only the materials provided. Your street clothes may be used as a base, but will not be considered part of the costume.

Your team will have 30 minutes to create and construct these costumes, and will be judged at the end of that time period based on screen accuracy, creativity, and design technique.

The show MUST go on!

(All materials will be provided, teams consist of 5 members each.)

The Costume Challenge [Jul. 16th, 2008|02:40 pm]

[Current Mood |creative]

The Atlantic City Convention will offer two fun costume-related competitions. As the date gets closer, we will be announcing more and more details about all of our events. For now, here is the information for the Costume Challenge:

What is the costume challenge? In a word: FUN!!! In more words: an injection of entertainment into a contest designed around minutia.

For years a staple of the Rocky Horror world centered around costuming. Rocky conventions would hold costume contests so that people could show off their hard work and creativity to other people who also had the same interests.

As time marched on and technology grew people learned more and more of the details. It was an age of enlightenment. Fans were able to use DVDs to see the finer details they were only previously able to see once a week in a movie theatre. They were able to use the internet to compare notes and collaborate. They could contact custom costumers to make screen accurate costumes, or order more accurate fabrics to make the costumes themselves.

Soon at conventions, the distance between costume contest contestants blurred and the contests were no longer about the Eddie with the blue jeans and the leather jacket with a sun painted on it - but if the sun was painted in the exact pattern, or if his jeans were the right shade of blue and ripped in a specific way. Contests were no longer about creativity but about having judges who would evaluate the fine details slavishly mimicked by each contestant. Contestants were becoming less the people wearing the finished product, but merely mannequins displaying the piece. The stress went up for the contestants and the entertainment went down for those watching it. As more and more conventions happened, contestants who lost turned to the internet - the same technology that had once brought them together - to vent and gripe about their experiences on (cue evil music) "The Newsgroup". Oftentimes this griping resulted in bitter debates, sometimes even hatred. People upset that they didn't win didn't want to come to the next convention. The age of enlightenment has marched forward into its own dark ages.

But then two men - visionaries, legends in their own right - stepped up to the plate. Chad Parizman and Larry Viezel, two humble Rocky Horror fans from New Jersey wanted to try something different. Something that would be entertaining for participants and spectators alike. Something that would incorporate not just the effort of good looking costumes but also the spirit of entertainment that permeates Rocky Horror. Something that would GET THE STICK OUT OF THE ASS OF COSTUME CONTESTS!!! They created the Costume Challenge. They laid out rules beyond just the costume. Beyond just the attention to detail and creativity any entrant would display, contestants also had to entertain the audience with a physical challenge. Frank's would show their whipping prowess. Janets would catch long distance flower bouquets. Riff Raff's would throw meat at a target. For this contest there would be a balance of screen accuracy and characterization. And who better to judge this first new exciting breakthrough but Rocky Horror costume creator herself Sue Blane! The inaugural contest was a success. The audiences, judges and participants suddenly were laughing and smiling again. Reports on the newsgroup were glowingly positive - raving about the fun of the contest. The contest's creator's, those gods among men, brought Rocky Horror Costume Contests into a new dawn. And there was peace and rejoicing.

Two, two updates in one! [Jun. 26th, 2008|08:33 pm]

agroupie
With three months to go until the convention, the planning committee has been busy. We are happy to bring you news about the preshow competition and casting for Shock Treatment!

Preshow Competition!

The display of preshows is often THE highlight of Rocky Horror conventions.  For the uninitiated, a "preshow" is a brief performance composed by Rocky Horror casts, often with a Rocky theme, designed to warm up and entertain an audience before the show itself (see what wordsmiths we are?).  Some of you have even already written us and asked about submitting a preshow.  Well, here is all the information you could possibly want, and then some!

We will be showcasing preshows along with our Video Competition on Saturday September 27th; however, the Preshow Competition is a separate opportunity to win fame, glory, and stuff from the Larry's closet fabulous prizes.  Every cast is invited to create a live performance, lasting no longer than ten minutes.  Remember, the ten-minute rule is a maximum, not a goal.  Shorter performances are often more entertaining.  Casts are welcome to do more than one preshow, as long as they are _really_ good.  In other words, each cast is limited to one preshow (or less) if it sucks.  If you knock our socks off, we'll let you do whatever you want.  This is our most important rule.

Preshows will be judged by a pack of drunken fools an expert panel and the winning troupe will have the opportunity to perform their preshow prior to the big House of Blues production of the Rocky Horror Picture Show!

To enter, simply e-mail us at contact@rockycon2008.com.  Give us the name of your group, the title of your preshow, and alert us to any special needs or requests (i.e. audio equipment, space requirements, lighting concerns, etc).  We'll let you know if we can't accommodate you for some reason.  If you think you have what it takes to perform more than one preshow, you will need to send us a DVD or YouTube for each of your routines.  We reserve the right to refuse a preshow for any reason (especially if it sucks).  For our own sanity in composing the schedule, the deadline to submit all entries is September 1st.

Shock Treatment Casting

Can you provide us with a bit of "Oooooh Shock Treatment"?  Casting is now open for the live shadowcast of Shock Treatment, which will be performed Friday night in the Club Harlem Ballroom!  Anyone and everyone is welcome to apply.  Just send an e-mail to shocktreatment@rockycon2008.com with the following information:

Name:

Home Cast (if applicable):
Shock Treatment Experience
(if applicable):
Desired Role(s):

Keep in mind, the more characters you indicate you are able to perform, the better the chance you will be included in the cast.  You also are encouraged to submit any photos you have of yourself in costume or during a Shock Treatment performance.  If you have never performed in Shock Treatment, don't despair!  The cast is quite large.  Just send us what information you have, and you might just be making your Shock Treatment début at the Atlantic City Convention!

Atlantic City 2008 Casting [Jun. 12th, 2008|09:14 pm]

News You’ve Been Waiting For...Casting for Rocky Horror

GOLDEN TICKET CASTING

Ever since we announced the convention (okay, even before we announced the convention), there has been a buzz about the casting for the House of Blues screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. We've landed an amazing venue and are going to put on a kick-ass show for a very large crowd.

For each character, there will be three or less performers (some exceptions may apply at the discretion of the convention committee). There will not be a traditional application process. Casting will be done by nomination only. Nominations can be submitted by the convention committee, or by a current cast leader. Between the members on the committee, we know a lot of national and international performers. We do, however, realize there are a lot of people we don't know. Therefore, over the next several weeks, we will be contacting cast leaders and asking them who their "All Stars" are. If no one on your cast is contacted - don't panic, it might just mean we already know you guys. We will take the information we get and use it to supplement our knowledge on who we would like to see on the House of Blues stage. No one needs to send us a photo or videotape, unless we contact you individually and request it.

Importantly, cast members will be selected from the pool of registered and paid ticket holders. Therefore, we will not be announcing casting until late in the game, to give people a chance to purchase their tickets.

Once casting is announced, we realize there will be some disappointed people. Unfortunately, it is not feasible to put every good performer in a main role and still pull off a coherent show. For those of you who want the chance to be a part of this performance but are not selected- don't despair. We will incorporate anyone and everyone who can put together a "screen accurate" Transylvanian costume into the show. Details on this will follow.

Plenty of rooms at the Inn... [Jun. 5th, 2008|02:54 pm]

lizzyfur
[Current Mood | relieved]

There has been some rumors about the official convention hotel, The Showboat Casino, being close to selling out. I have confirmed with the National Sales Manager of Bally's, Caesars, Showboat & Harrah's that this is NOT the case.

We still have 25 rooms remaining in our block - and I'm currently working with her to add another block of rooms. Rest assured, that are watching out for things like this and are in constant contact with the awesome folks down in Atlantic City. We are on the ball!! (tee hee, balls...)
As a point of fact, within minutes of reading [info]gamsby's lj update, I was on the phone to Showboat to figure out whether this was true, and if we could add rooms. When I could not reach the sales person, I immediately called the Taj Mahal (next door, and connected to both HoB & Showboat, but under different management) to see if we could secure the same rate there in light of how obviously popular our convention is. =)

Please don't let this cause you to hesitate reserving your room! Remember Individual cancellation is 72 hours prior to arrival. You can cancel if things change, and you can't attend. Although I hope to see you ALL there with bells on, or at the very least pants.

I know I'm not the first person to think about using my economic stimulus check for the convention!

NOTE: I have also confirmed with The Showboat that individuals who call to reserve rooms beyond our block, but still reference that they are with the Rocky Horror convention will also receive the discounted rate up until September 11, 2008 provided that the hotel does not sell out. Currently as mentioned above, we are increasing our block to be sure the hotel will not sell out.

Newsflash: Atlantic City Rocky Horror Con gets even sassy-er! [May. 27th, 2008|01:59 pm]

lizzyfur
[Current Mood | ecstatic]

Groupies rejoice!

Our favorite sequined, tap-dancing, red-headed singer has agreed to come to the convention! That's right- Little Nell Campbell, the original Columbia, will be a featured Special Guest at the Atlantic City Rocky Horror Convention.

Little Nell originated the role of Columbia in the first stage production of the Rocky Horror Show in London. As we all know, she reprised the exuberant, sparkly groupie in the Rocky Horror Picture Show. She also starred in Shock Treatment as the vivacious Nurse Ansalong. Hard-core Little Nell fans also will remember her for her pop singles (who here does the Swim?) and additional movie rolls such as "Head Groupie" in Pink Floyd's the Wall.

Like the rest of our special guests, Little Nell will be available for a question and answer session and to sign autographs for her fans. Remember- there is no additional charge for any Special Guest related activities (including autographs and photos), your con ticket is all-inclusive!

Rocky Horror Convention Hotel Info... [May. 17th, 2008|03:36 pm]

lizzyfur
[Current Mood | excited]

Hotel Information - Special Rocky Con group rate reservations open on Wednesday May 21st!

We know a lot of you have been anxiously awaiting this information. The Atlantic City Rocky Horror Convention Committee is thrilled to announce the official hotel for the convention will be the Showboat Hotel and Casino! A lot of thought went into the selection of this hotel, and the Showboat has several excellent features.

Location, Location, Location!

The Showboat, known as the "Mardi Gras" casino, is located on the world-famous Atlantic City boardwalk, and is literally steps away from the beach. The beach will be open the weekend of the convention, and the ocean water is actually the warmest in September. That's right- swimming, surfing, fishing and hot lifeguards will be 20 feet from the hotel lobby! The Showboat also is on a prime spot of the Boardwalk, where you can find shopping, piers, and walk to almost every other casino in Atlantic City.

But if you don't ever want to leave the hotel itself, that's fine too, in fact, it works out perfectly! The House of Blues, which is hosting the Saturday night Rocky Horror screening, is inside the Showboat! Friday and Saturday convention events will all take place within the Showboat. We have reserved both a convention suite and the Club Harlem Ballroom to house all of the weekend's activities. No worries about traipsing along the boardwalk in fishnets and high heels- unless, of course, you want to. And that brings us to…

The Club Harlem Ballroom

The Harlem Ballroom will be the main activity area of the convention. Again, it is part of the House of Blues, so no leaving the hotel required for costume changes, stashing stuff you bought at vendor tables, or getting *too* lost when drunk. I should note the Harlem Ballroom features a bar!

Extras!

The Showboat boasts all you would expect from an Atlantic City casino: Gambling (the casino is Marti Gras theme and they promise "the loosest slots"), restaurants, a roof top swimming pool, and first-rate fitness facility. Plus there are two different buffets, which means…

UNLIMITED BACON!

Need I say more?

Prices and Reservations

The Rocky Horror convention rooms will be located in the Bourbon Tower. Don't worry, we also encourage the consumption of vodka. We have worked hard to give our guests the best deal available. If you reserve through the convention rate and plan to stay Thursday night, Friday night and Saturday night, your rate will be $149/night. For just Friday night and Saturday night it is $189/night. Just for comparison, the best rate the hotel next door quoted us (name withheld to protect the ridiculously wealthy with equally ridiculous hair) was $299/night!

We hope you stay at the Showboat. Half the point of a Rocky Horror convention is to "convene" in the same location. But if it is still too pricey for your budget, by all means shop around on Priceline and Orbitz for other options. There are many cheaper hotels within the town of Atlantic City, but probably not on the boardwalk (you may need to budget for cab money) or with many amenities.

To book your room(s), call 609-441-5776 starting Wednesday May 21, 2008 and say you are with the Rocky Horror Convention. Sorry, you can't get the group rate online. You must book by September 11, 2008 in order to get the discounted rate. If you reserve your room after September 11th, the rate will be the prevailing Hotel rack rate.

Individual cancellation is 72 hours prior to arrival. Cancellation less than 72 hours prior to arrival will be subject to a forfeit of one night's room and tax. All no-show's will be billed for one night's room and tax, based on pre-arranged billing procedure. Please note, check-out time is 12:00 noon. Check-in time is 4:00 p.m. Please be advised a current credit card must be presented upon check-in.

Ticket Information!

We know a lot of you are already trying to budget for the convention, and the biggest question we get asked is – "How much?" Hot off the presses, we've got ticket pricing for you. We'll be selling tickets in a couple of phases, the earlier you buy, the cheaper they are!

Early Registration

Purchase your Ticket on or before June 15 and pay $65

Regular Registration

Purchase your Ticket between June 16 and September 1 and pay $75

Late Registration

Purchase your ticket after September 2 and pay $95. This includes tickets purchased at the door.

Wait, What Do Those Tickets Get Me?

Your convention ticket gets you access to all events through the weekend. This includes all of the main events on Friday and Saturday, plus some bonus activities that we have planned for people coming in early on Thursday or staying late on Sunday. Your ticket also gets you the best seats in the house for the screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Saturday night in the House of Blues, as well as access to a showing of Shock Treatment on Friday night.

Is That All?

No, of course not! Your convention ticket gives you access to all of our special guests. That's right, no additional fees for autographs or pictures! We'll also have a limited buffet on Saturday for all convention attendees, as well as a brunch on the beach Sunday morning. Put those two together and it means you can hob-nob it up with some stars of the movie while enjoying some franks-in-a-blanket and a tasty beverage.

Vendor Information

What Else Can I Do Now?

We'll be releasing a lot more information over the next few weeks. In the meantime, friend us up on MySpace, Livejournal and Facebook. Start meeting other people for rideshares and hotel rooms. Promote the heck out of the convention to your friends.

I still have more questions!

We're sure you do. Be patient with us as we continue to make this a great convention and party weekend. Atlantic City Rocky Horror Convention...Special Guest! [May. 5th, 2008|04:04 pm]

lizzyfur
[Current Mood | happy]

The Atlantic City Convention Committee is very excited to announce our first special guest! After several excited phone calls and e-mails, our favorite Lady from England has agreed to come join the fun. That's right, Patricia Quinn - the original Magenta - will be at the Atlantic City Rocky Horror convention!

Beyond just creating and shaping the role of Magenta in the original stage production of the Rocky Horror Show, Pat reprised the long lashed, big-haired sultry maid in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. She also provided the famous Lips shown in the opening number, Science Fiction Double Feature. Pat Quinn's Rocky resume also includes her role as Nation McKinley in Rocky's sequel, Shock Treatment.

Pat is excited to meet with fans, discuss her involvement in Rocky Horror and Shock Treatment, sign autographs, and party!

Pat has been to other Rocky conventions, and is always remembered by attendees for her love of fun, the fans, and all things Rocky. Pat has spoken with Larry Viezel several times in the past couple weeks, and is eager to help make this convention an event to remember.

Pat is the first of the guests we are announcing…we are also in discussion with some of her former co-stars. We will provide more information as it becomes official.

DISCLAIMER: All Guest appearances are subject to change

Getting to the Rocky Horror Con: A Story in Pictures...err...WITH LINKS! [Apr. 12th, 2008|09:48 am]

lizzyfur
[Current Mood | optimistic]

A lot has been discussed about the best way to get to the convention. Yes, it's true that websites like orbitz.com, expedia.com, travelocity.com, and especially priceline.com do work well to find and hunt around for cheap travel. BUT, let's just start from the beginning, shall we?

LOCAL AND OTHER AREA AIRPORTS

Atlantic City, NJ is located near the bottom tip of New Jersey (yes for those of you not from the East Coast, NJ has a little wang hanging off into the ocean...AC is on the top of the shaft...) very near Delaware and Philadelphia, PA and about a 2 and 1/2 hour drive from New York City.

There are several airports that provide great options for transport to Atlantic City:

ACY: Atlantic City International Airport is located minutes away from Atlantic City. However, there are few flights that go directly to this airport, and they run a bit higher in cost than other area airports. Take in to account the extra cost of your flight into AIY, and the money you might have to spend on a cab, bus, or train ride into Atlantic City proper, and in the end it may be worth a little extra cost! The Atlantic City Website has great tips on transport from the airport.
NOTE: an earlier typo in the airport abbreviation (the link was always correct) would have listed Bader Field as the airport, a private municipal airport. You can land your private jet there if you want, and if you do, will you marry me? Atlantic City Airport is certainly not walking distance, but a lot closer than the others!

PHL: Philadelphia International Airport is located about an hour away from Atlantic City. Check out their website, as well as the Atlantic City website for options on ground transport. There are regular busses, as well as trains that go into the city. However, a ride share might be an option with other convention goers, since so many connecting flights from California and the Midwest go through the same Cities =)

EWR: Newark, NJ International Airport. This airport by far has the most flights from across the U.S. to NJ. However, it's about a two hour car ride. If you'd like to share a cab with some other folks, it could become affordable. Always negotiate with the cab driver beforehand, or book a car service ahead of time with a flat rate.
Many bus lines featured on the Newark Airport website provide bus service to Atlantic City.
New Jersey Transit provides Rail Service from Newark Airport as well. It's very comfortable and you'll get to see scenic New Jersey =)

And finally...

ILG: New Castle County Airport, Delaware is about 90 minutes away. I don't know much about this airport, but it's yet another option and maybe some of our Delaware friends can give you some tips about travel from there!

LGA, JFK and other NYC airports take quite a bit more planning, but check out the website for the Port Authority of NY/NJ to read more about ground transport from those airports to Atlantic City. There are many, many options, they are just a bit longer and might be more complicated (OR I could be totally wrong, it happens! Let us know if you dig up a great deal!)

NOTE: Many folks from the New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and East Coast states in general will be driving to Atlantic City. SO, if you have friends from around here, definitely mooch and beg for rides *wink*.

-----

Wow, this is like an essay. Jeeez, are you bored from reading this? I hope not, it's really informative and I haven't spent this much time writing something in, like, 10 years. Seriously! I never did homework in college or high school. I guess it was a cry for attention really....wait...oh right I was writing about travel...

-----

TIPS FOR FINDING CHEAP-O TRAVEL ONLINE!

I book travel quite a bit for work, and yes of course leisure trips. One of my favorite features of the travel websites is orbitz.com's Deal Detector. You can enter your destination, and the price you'd like to pay. They will email you when they find a matching flight for that price.

expedia.com has a similar service, and so does travelocity.com, but I usually have better luck with Orbitz (brand loyal, what can I say?)

Priceline.com is not a place that I have used for the "Name your own price" feature. Now, I have used it for rental cars, and got rental cars for as cheap as $8 per day in Chicago (!) from Hertz, so I do love their service! However with flights, there needs to be some flexibility. They don't tell you the time you are leaving ahead of time, and you may end up with a wait in another city, and may not know your airline. BUT, you may end up with a super cheap flight cross country, so if it's totally worth the gamble let us all know!

Kayak.com: I have heard great things about, but have no experience with. Let us know if you have any tips for that site!

RENTAL CARS

As I said above, I find Priceline.com's "Name Your Own Price" to have GREAT deals on rental cars! Do a quick search on Orbitz.com and find out how much a rental car would cost for the dates you will be in Atlantic City, and from the airport you will be flying into. Then go to priceline and enter a price at least half that (or gamble and go lower!!) You have to back out and change your options if they turn down your first offer. You can change things such as the pickup/dropoff time, and the type of car, and then try a slightly higher price. It's totally worth the time to get a cheap car!

NOTE: Rental cars are not necessary for Atlantic City. If you check out a map, all of the major attractions are within walking distance, located on the Boardwalk. We are planning all convention events to be attached to the Boardwalk, and the beach. The only reason to rent a car would be for ease of transport from the airport if you are travelling with a group, or if you are planning on sight seeing in other locations like Historic Delaware, Philadelphia, or New York City.

AND FINALLY

Now that you are an expert at finding cheap and easy (hot!) online travel, please share with us if you've found any awesome deals or other ways to book that we aren't aware of.

Amtrak has trains directly into Atlantic City from, well, everywhere!

The websites above DO NOT INCLUDE the following two airlines, so check out those sites directly for some more possible great deals:

USA 3000: Goes directly into Philly, and sounds like a futuristic Sci-Fi movie where robots own people and Sylvester Stallone has to protect the president from a hand grenade...

Spirit Airlines: Flies directly into Atlantic City, definitely worthwhile to check out for anyone not traveling in a group that can't diffuse the cost of a rental car/taxi from the other airports.

SOOOO that's all of the info I had stored in my brain (literally) about travel. Feel free to ask questions and make sure to go turn on your deal detectors! Keep an eye on travel for the next few weeks, prices will come down again once the whole American Airlines thing blows over (Poor ATA, no one even noticed they went out of business earlier this month!)

Good luck!

Saturday event announcement - new contest! [Apr. 8th, 2008|08:58 pm]

agroupie

This convention will feature a lot of new and exciting events, and twists on some classic staples of Rocky Horror fandom. We’ve already announced Thursday night’s "Rocky Horror Puppet Show". Now we’d like to announce the Fan Video Contest which you’ll all want to "eagerly view on your television monitor!"

Description of the Fan Video Contest
In addition to a preshow competition, this convention will have a fan video competition. If anyone has been to a large convention of another fandom, such as anime, you might have seen some of the fabulous music videos based off shows or movies. Briefly, fans have taken and edited scenes and images from their favorite show and set it to popular music. These music videos can be funny, sad, romantic or a combination of genres. Surprisingly, very few people have made Rocky Horror/Shock Treatment music videos. If this is a new concept for you, please check out some examples.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbRZGmgu_1Y

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQ3YzhvbQ3A

A particularly funny and well done example: http://www.c4vct.com/kym/slachash/videos/index.htm scroll to the bottom, it is the last one on the page

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpjCdz3wF4s&NR=1 (an example of one that isn’t a comedy)

Also, search for anime and Harry Potter music videos for inspiration on different styles, etc. Some even use "lip syncing" techniques.

Alternately, if music isn’t your thing but you would like to play with your video camera, short films also will be accepted. These can be documentary style (i.e. A Day in the Life of a Guy Who Plays Eddie), movie shorts, or anything else you can come up with. The only stipulation is these are NOT to be films of preshows or other acts that could easily be performed live. In other words, make use of the video medium. Casts wishing to display preshows or live acts are encouraged to enter the preshow competition.

Videos submitted for entry will be shown during the general preshow competition at the convention. Videos will be screened in between live preshows. It should be noted the videos will be judged separately than the preshows.

Rules, Regulations and Prizes
All videos must be no more then ten (10) minutes long. Please keep in mind this the maximum cutoff, and not a goal. Experience has shown shorter videos are often better received. Videos may be submitted by casts or individuals. Casts or individuals submitting videos are also welcome to enter the live preshow competition. The entries should have some sort of Rocky Horror and/or Shock Treatment tie in - either by video, audio or theme. Videos should be submitted in DVD format. Videos will be judged by a panel. The number of prizes awarded will be determined based on the number of entries. At least one video will be selected to be shown prior to the midnight showing of Rocky Horror at the House of Blues. The convention committee reserves the right to decide not to screen videos for any reason.

Deadline: All submissions must be postmarked by 9/1/2008. Please send DVDs to:

Rocky Horror Con Schedule - TENTATIVE Plans! [Mar. 27th, 2008|06:04 pm]

[Current Mood |productive]

Who's excited about September? We are chomping at the bit to announce more details trust us! But until the contracts are inked we don't want to make any official announcements. That will happen within the next few days, but for now because we are just as excited as everyone else; here is what we are planning for this September as far as a schedule of events. Remember these are all subject to change...

Tentative schedule:

Thursday night (bonus night! This is a free night with no cost for convention attendees!)

7 PM – The Rocky Horror Puppet Show (details about the cast performing this show can be seen here: http://therockyhorrorpuppetshow.blogspot.com/ note: the date on their website is actually incorrect, the date is September 25th, 2008.
This performance will take place in the con suite, and is definitely worth seeing if you'll be around!)
9 PM – Party (this party will have a specific theme that we can’t officially announce because of the location being in Atlantic City. If the theme spreads via word of mouth that is fine, let’s just say it has the word “Strip” then a word in the middle, then the last word rhymes with “ornament” that’s all you’re getting…)

Friday night

8 PM – SHOCK TREATMENT!!!
10 PM – Welcome party, you DON’T wanna miss this party! We have a few tricks up our sleeve =)

Saturday

12 Noon – 6 PM – vendor tables and other convention events including some things you’ve seen, and some brand spankin’ new events that you’ve never seen before!

6 PM – 8 PM – Preshows performed by casts from all over the world

Midnight – I figure we’ll find something to do, I mean, it IS Atlantic City! Just kidding, this will be The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the House of Blues! This event is open to the public (to answer a lot of your questions) however all convention guests are guaranteed tickets =)

Sunday

Time TBD – picnic on the beach. Stop by for a sandwich and say goodbye to all of the friends and bedfellows you’ve made on the trip before heading off to your flight/car ride home.

More to come folks please stay tuned and bear with us while we iron out the final details!

Nothing says "Rocky Horror" like a suntan! [Mar. 7th, 2008|07:04 pm]

[Current Mood | excited]

EVERYONE GET EXCITED!!! A few people have been asking, so I called the Atlantic City Tourism board and sure enough, the beaches will DEFINITELY still be open the weekend of the convention!

Swimming is permitted, however not all of the beaches have lifeguards during September. (BUT, any beach I'm at will have a certified lifeguard! ...me...that is.) There are several beaches that allow surfing and fishing is allowed in several locations! The beach is lovely, I was there last summer. It's actually HUGE compared to most NJ beaches, and the water is really shallow for quite a ways out. Additionally, anyone with basic knowledge of the ocean will realize that the Atlantic is actually at it's warmest in September because it takes so long to heat up, and then cool down.

Anyway, I was excited when I heard that! Nothing like a huge group of freaks in black boots and whiteface on the beach to spice up your weekend =)

Help Spread the Word! [Mar. 6th, 2008|05:56 pm]

agroupie

First off we want to say that ATLANTIC CITY 2008 IS GOING TO ROCK! This convention will take the fun and spirit of Rocky Horror and put them through a megaphone that's put in front of ANOTHER MEGAPHONE! It will be like an energy drink mixed with electricity mixed with an orgasm you'll have WHILE DRINKING AN ENERGY DRINK! This convention will blow the socks off your grandmother when she isn't looking and very well might SCARE SAL PIRO STRAIGHT!

Okay - now that we have that out of the way, we need your help. We are hoping to bring this convention to not only the people who have been to conventions before, but also to the convention virgins. Enter the internet. In today's world of internet newsgroups, blogs and social networking sites its almost possible to reach everyone in Rocky Horror's international subculture. But we can't do it alone. We would like to inform as many Rocky fans as possible about the upcoming convention and you can help. Post to you or your cast's LJ and let them know this community exists. Send a MySpace  bulletin suggesting other fans send us a friend request. Mention the convention to the regulars in the audience at your local show. This convention should go beyond just the dedicated cast die hards. We want the casual fan as well as the lifers to come. We want to have as many people who love Rocky Horror celebrate that love and meet other like minded people. Theres a lot of us freaks out there - this is our chance to party. And it will be one hell of a party.

This LiveJournal community and the MySpace page (www.myspace.com/rockycon2008) will be frequently updated as we get information, and will be a great way to keep in touch until the official website is completed. Please encourage others to check them out.

Thank you, and keep on Time Warping!
