Magic cards
For Christmas, my brother-in-law wants Magic: The Gathering cards. He told me to go to a comics shop and just ask for "common cards", the kind that are barely worth a nickel each -- no need for fancy collector's editions or whatever, as he says just sorting through hundreds of cards will give him "months of fun". Unfortunately, he's in Texas, and the Dallas-area shops he recommended won't do me any good here, not that I would have a clue where to go!

So... do any of you know of Atlanta comics stores that might have shoeboxes of M:TG cards that they would sell me for under $20? Or, hey, if any of you have a large quantity of cards you'd be willing to sell, perhaps we could work something out. Thanks in advance!

My husband has a very large quantity of MTG cards that I think he is looking to sell. When do you need them? We are out of town in NC at the moment but will be returning tomorrow night.

Ah, that might work out well! I don't need them until the week before Christmas. My budget is around $20, since I'll probably have to pay a fortune to mail them to TX rather than hauling a heavy box in my luggage. So... maybe we could discuss how many he'd be willing to sell for that price. As I said, they don't need to be fancy collector's editions or whatever -- just any old cards would do.

If you're interested, PM me via LJ, and we could work something out.

Check out Oxford Comics and Games on Piedmont (map here). That's really the only place I would know of to pick up magic cards anymore.

You can call them at (404) 233-8682 and see if they have what you're looking for in advance.

There is a Stamp and Coin shop inside Northlake Mall that sells Magic cards, but I don't know how extensive their collection is.

Seriously, check craigslist. A lot of people have old cards they don't want, and you avoid the mark-up in the shop.

Try ebay. You can often get a complete set of 4 each of ALL the commons from a particular expansion for something in that general price range, and then have them shipped directly to your brother-in-law.

(Well, you used to be able to - I haven't looked for mtg cards online in a few years, but I'd be surprised if the market had changed much.)

Odin's Cosmic Bookshelf in Lilburn doesn't specialize in cards but sometimes they have loose MTG cards hanging around that they love to sell cheap. They have a website
www.odins.net
and their number is (770)923-0123.
Good luck!

Try Titans Comics or maybe Book Nook for older cards, maybe. If they don't have them, they can probably tell you who does. Also, you can just buy packs of current cards at any comic book store or in Target. I have no idea what edition Magic is on, or what the card packs go for these days.

Shipping a bunch of these might be expensive though, as paper is heavy. Whatever the USPS calls 4th class shipping these days might be the way to go, as for packages they are still cheaper than FedEX or UPS. Good luck on all this!
