Tordnado. Discuss.
So a tornado just hit my building and whole neighborhood (Downtown.) Too busy gasping in disbelief to write much, but here's my quick post on it on my personal blog. Anybody else get caught in this?

Thank goodness, no. I'm farther north. But I was watching the storm on radar, and I've been watching some of the follow-up reports. The storm ripped a hole in the Georgia Dome (during the basketball game), and a bunch of windows are blown out in the Omni Hotel. There's debris all over the place.

Glad you're OK!

Wow! It's quiet as can be in Roswell, we had a little thunder and lightening but nothing major. We got hit really hard the last two storms though.

My dad is actually visiting from Boston for a convention and staying near CNN. He said a lot of windows are blown out of his hotel and that people are milling around.

Here in Decatur, the storm blew over us with a lot of noise and bluster, but I don't know what kind of damage it did.

Crazy shit.

I heard the "freight train" sound in Grant Park and my neighbor claims to have seen something from his upstairs porch headed from behind our house towards the park. I don't see any damage from my house though. Scary. The news is saying the CNN Center and Five Points were also hit.

I've been through several tornados growing up in Alabama so I knew from the weirdness outside that something was up. Luckily it appears that Centennial Hill wasn't hit but I could certainly hear the whistling sound in the distance.

around 10pm.. it was pouring rain, lightning everywhere. Made it to the intersection of college and hail started pelting my car. I began to panic, since I was stuck at a red light on kinda high ground with trees on either side of me. It soon stopped, but it was scary.. off to read your blog.

I live in L5P and the most obvious effect was the crazy hail that went on for about 5 minutes. I don't know if there's any damage to the area though.

I heard it in Fourth Ward/Grant Park. It scared me enough that I took cover but as far as I can tell there's no damage.

There is, however, another storm on the way and it has rotation in it. So be prepared.

Spring and 4th.

No damage. No awnings hurt. Lots of rain and a patter of hail.

Never lost power.

Listening to Scanfulton.com now. the cops have most of downtown closed.

Wonder what the status of the parade tomorrow will be?

Yeah, it pretty much got a direct hit. Tons of windows blown out. But the real issue is all the shit that flew around. There are air vents, whole rooftops, cornices, gutters, signs, everywhere. Lots of broken glass, broken car windows, trees down. Parks are ruined -- Centennial and Hurt. Jesus.

I'm out in L5P; we had a lot of lightning out here with spectacular purple tints and a few bouts of heavy rain. Didn't see much in the way of wind but heard a lot of sirens wailing.
I hope everyone in your area is okay!

I'm sure Grady is full of injuries, gotta be some fatalities. Esp. in building that were ripped up, cars that were crushed (saw several), etc.

Luckily, I live in Duluth at the moment. But I've spent a good portion in my life living in the city. And the ironic thing is that we were discussing if we wanted to eat at the Sundial again this Christmas (what? we plan ahead) and then I turn on the news and the Westin's been hit.

I don't think we had much rain or anything going on really. Nothing that made me run from sitting in front the windows. I was flipping through channels about 11:30 and saw it on CNN. I flew to Fox 5 and it's been on since. This is insane to me. I'm not used to this weather hitting so soon. Though it is March. Ick.

Thank god we haven't bought a condo/townhome in Atlanta yet. That's on our to do list this summer. At least you don't have to worry about rubberneckers since most people have left and are being turned away. Hopefully the storms will calm down on your end. I made a post about it on my Blogger, linking to pics, and I know the AJC, Fox 4, and Channel 2 have stories up about it right now. I'm sure more will come soon. 11 Alive had pics.

It's a really random thing. Lots of damage two blocks from my condo, but my building was completely untouched.

I had to discuss with my godmom the difference of Cornerstone (where we used to live, back when it was apartments) and this. But the weird thing is that I tried to convince her to give Luckie 123 a chance when it was being built.

The untouched thing reminds of the Grey Man. Which is odd enough. It looks terrible. I'm personally just glad I don't live in the Stack Lofts myself.

We were on 75, right at the ramp for 285, when the bottom dropped out. At first I just thought it was really loud rain, but then showers of dime- to nickel-sized hail attacked my car (and of course, the only time I'm caught on the road in a hailstorm is in a new car, not the POS I was driving for the last six years). It was so loud it completely drowned out the Prodigy I had all cranked up and booming. The winds were fierce and visibility was for shit, and the lightning strikes were incredibly close by and appeared extremely forceful. We were lucky enough that we got out of there okay, but there were many hazard lights flashing for people who hadn't and those who were just too scared to go anywhere till there was a break. Dork that I am, I even went back outside once we were home (as the rain had stopped) and took hail pictures. They'll join my snow pictures in the category of Weird Atlanta Weather, Winter '07-'08 Edition.

Caleb is telling me the area by Spring Street has already been totally cleaned up -- street signs, lights, debris, blown-over newspaper boxes righted, etc. But just looking out my window (haven't gone out yet) I can see a lot of obvious damage. The big SunTrust bank building by Woodruff Park is missing at least 20 windows just on one side and you can see blinds and curtains blowing around in the holes. Right now I'm going to catch up with all the emails I have from people. I'll go out with my camera to get pictures of whatever I can find later. Then I'm going to write up an article in my non-personal blog talking about news sharing in wake of the storm.
