Rent
I'm going to make a return to downtown but I'm currently looking for an inexpensive one bedroom/studio apartment for myself in the l5p/edgewood/highlands...I know there are websites with posting but any of you that are in the know about some places that might not be advertised please respond..

I appreciate it

I have done the exact same deal. Moved from Grayson to the Highlands and got a studio for $400/mo...this was in 2003. You probably have already thought of this, but I had the best luck just driving and walking around the neighborhoods. Many of the "inexpensive" places (including the one I settled on) were not listed on AJC or CL.

What's inexpensive to you?

The building next to Neighbor's on St. Charles has a sign up for a studio for $500 right now.

I've never been inside the building, but it's an older brick building, and you can't beat the location.

If you don't mind institutional-looking 1960s long brick buildings (I do--I think they're really ugly, but that's just me), there are several with vacancies on both St. Charles and Greenwood. Like, probably four or five different ones--just drive up and down the street. They're relatively inexpensive for the neighborhood and vary in price depending on how well they've been maintained. There's a group of buildings in the 900s on Greenwood that have 1 bedrooms for around $500, but they're really small and really beige.

I also looked at a very small 1 bedroom on Seal Place (off Monroe near Trader Joe's, kind of on the line between Virginia-Highlands and Midtown) that was only $650.

I didn't take it because it was so small, but it might work don't have much stuff.

If you don't mind being in Poncey-Highlands, there are two buildings right next to each other on Sommersett (behind Green's on Ponce) with 1 bedrooms for $695. There are studios too, but I don't know how much they are. They currently have an ad in Creative Loafing and the number is 404/892-1133.

I second just driving or walking around. Many, many people here just put a sign in front and don't advertise on craigslist or in Creative Loafing.
