I've never voted in a primary before. I'm considering it. I know I'm set for November. Do I have to register to vote in the primary? Did I miss my chance, or what?

Nope, as long as you are registered to vote, you just go to your designated place of voting, and vote.

Oh awesome. I thought you had to be registered with a party too.

not in georgia. you just show up and say "i'd like to vote in the democrat/republican primary, please." although you can't do both.

Most people are registered with a party. I also think Georgia has an open primary. But I could be very wrong.

Party registration isn't required in Georgia, so most people aren't registered with a party. I never have.

I'm still kind of new to GA. I thought it was open, but now I know for sure. Thanks! :D

I don't know if you like political history (specifically GA) or not, but the open primary system was used against Cynthia McKinney in the 2002 Congressional primary. Thousands of Republicans crossed party lines to vote for Denise Majette. Not illegal by any means, but definitely an interesting tidbit.

I'm not sure how most people register to vote here, but the lady at the DMV didn't ask me if I wanted to register with a party.

I also never received a voter registration card, but checking on the internet shows I am indeed registered and tells me my polling place. Odd.

Thanks for the reminder. I registered just before the deadline (thought I already was, but apparently the motor voter thing didn't go through), and I haven't gotten my precinct card yet. Must call and check.

Mine doesn't come up, even though I confirmed today that I'm registered. :)

For what it's worth: Georgia voting information and Georgia Election events/dates (this last link has the 2008 deadlines).
