Does anybody have a (personal) recommendation for a CPA to do my taxes? They aren't super complicated, but I'm separated and need to file married/separate returns and am worried about finding all my deductions. I'm not interested in paying an arm and a leg to get a small refund, but would rather have a CPA do them than do them myself or use H&R Block. Thanks!

This sounds like a job for TurboTax or TaxAct, even though you said you don't want to do your own. (Not even tax accountants do them with a paper and pencil.) If your situation isn't that complicated, you should try to do them yourself (with the right software, of course).

If you make under $54K, it may even be free. Just go to irs.gov and link to a tax provider from there. At least try it before shelling out for a tax accountant. You know your situation better than any accountant would, and some thorough and easy-to-use software is a better bet. If you have a buddy who was so much as an accounting major, they can probably answer your questions.

[And I say this a tax accountant/CPA.]

I thought about doing it with software, but I don't want to mess them up. I don't know how I'd 'try' it without actually doing it. I don't know anyone (besides my ex who I can't trust) and that's why I'm asking for help this year. I think after this year, I won't have any trouble.

Grothe, Alan L CPA - Grothe Alan L CPA (770) 952-8544 1950 Spectrum Cir SE # 400, Marietta, GA

Grothe, Paula J CPA - Grothe Paula J CPA (770) 857-2250 1950 Spectrum Cir SE # 400, Marietta, GA

Those are our accountants. Paula has been doing our taxes since 2002 and my life is so much easier because of it. Ours aren't complicated either other than the fact that my husband does some contract work and works from home much of the year. Just the knowledge that she would help us if something ever happened with an IRS audit makes the money spent every year totally worth it.

When we started back in 2002 it was about 185. It's gone up a bit each year (inflation and all that). Last year was 240. This year I'm expecting about 250

This guy is really awesome. Family friend, as well as having helped with my taxes last year when I got nailed with self-employment taxes (I hadn't understood what I got myself into that summer with a job that had fellowship students as consultants...).

same question- how much does it run ya? I realize he's a family friend, so it might be different, but I don't have the slightest idea.
