Hands On Atlanta notifies us that volunteers are needed for response to last weekend's tornado in Vine City and Cabbagetown neighborhoods!

ADMINISTRATIVE VOLUNTEERS FOR THE HANDS ON ATLANTA DISASTER VOLUNTEER CENTER:
The Hands On Atlanta Disaster Volunteer Center needs volunteer staff to assist with dispatching workers to areas of need. Volunteer Dispatchers will be assigned to one of the following tasks: Data Entry, Volunteer Intake, Safety Training, Phone Bank, Volunteer assignments. Please call the center at 404-979-2835 if you can help there.

Volunteers are needed for the following shifts on Wednesday, March 19 - Saturday, March 22
Morning: 7:30am - 12:30pm
Afternoon: 12noon - 5:00pm

VOLUNTEERS WHO WANT TO WORK OUT IN THE COMMUNITY:
Volunteers are needed to assist with repairs and general clean-up in communities affected by last week's tornado. To volunteer, you must report to the Hands On Atlanta Disaster Volunteer Center to receive your assignment. The Disaster center will be open Wednesday, March 19 - Saturday, March 22 from 8:00am - 3:00pm.

Downtown doesn't need the kind of help Cabbagetown and Vine City need, since there are different problems and mostly it's being taken care of, ergo we're trying to send help to those who need it.

Has anyone worked with the Murray Hill Center before? (They hold focus group discussions..) I was just wondering if anyone had any input on them.

Just got this in my work email since i work in Peachtree Center Mall:

The City of Atlanta had closed Peachtree Street to all PEDESTRIAN AND VEHICLE traffic from Ellis Street NORTH to Baker Street and Andrew Young International Boulevard west from Peachtree Center Avenue to Spring Street. The high winds we are currently experiencing are causing glass from the Westin Hotel to fall.

Please be aware that the Westin Hotel is in the process of securing many of the windows that were shattered during the Tornado. Today’s strong winds are blowing debris and causing glass and partial window panes to fall from the building. Atlanta police are shutting down traffic from Ellis Street NORTH to Baker Street and Andrew Young International Boulevard West from Peachtree Center Avenue to Spring Street.

Please take appropriate precautions when traveling downtown and be particularly careful when entering or crossing nearby streets.

So ive officially been an Atlanta resident for about 7 months now and i love it hear.

My girlfriend is going out of town to see family and i will be bored out of my mind with no one to hang out with sooooo

Anybody know of any good shows/entertaining things/great drink specials going on for Thursday and Friday night? Any suggestions. I havent done anything really since ive moved here and its a shame so i thought i would see the town.

I live right down the street from Downtown and Little Five so those would be good places for me to hit.

Does anyone know of a great place I can get a whole Tiramisu in Atlanta. Many of the places I've been to just make a cream based Tiramisu. In lieu of I'd love to know any place you know of that makes great cakes..

I have a pair of size 8 zoomer flippers, a pull buoy, and paddles. I also have about 200lbs in free weights and a curl bar, iron plates. I wont meet you in Roswell, or in stockbridge, They are here in Kirkwood...if you dont know where it is then its probably no where near you. These are free to whoever responds and follows through with picking them up.

My mom soultoad is a dog rescuer. She volunteers with Save-a-Pet, but more than that, she is practically her own one-woman dog rescue all on her own. She has [and I *think* this is the latest figure, it grows every few months so I may be behind one or two ;)] ten dogs of her own, all rescues.

For a long time now she and a couple of friends have been trying to catch a stray male dog that hangs out near a highway exit. This dog has been stubbornly elusive [traps haven't worked and I think there is talk of a tranq dart at this point], but meanwhile he made a lady friend and they got bizzay, and lo! there have been two litters of puppies. One litter was caught and turned over to SaP, but this current litter is without anywhere to go, SaP won't take these for some reason that I don't know the details of. The amazing chickenlover is keeping them at the moment, but these little guys [and girls] need to find forever homes.

And I know. The world is full of homeless dogs sitting lonely in shelters, hoping that someone will come along and decide to take them home and love them; you can all have your pick of homeless dogs all over the place. But maybe you could just take a minute to pop by and have a look at these little darlings, perhaps one will capture your heart and be just the dog that needs to come live with you and give you kisses!

Hi, I need a gallon of race gas (not aviation fuel).  Is there a store that sells this in Atlanta?

I need a little help. I've got 90 days left on a lease and want to find a loft condo in Brookhaven, Chamblee, or in the L5P area. Craigslist is a pain in the ass to search and find things, and a few of the places I've checked out seem shady -- one guy even told me he was "about to be foreclosed on and really needs to rent the place out now." Yeah.. so they can foreclose on it and throw me out.

So I'm looking for a management company that manages and leases privately owned lofts and can assure me that the place I'm renting isn't about to be foreclosed on/etc. My "dilemma" is I have a 50# German Shepherd-looking dog (he's only about 25% GSD, but he looks like a small GSD), and they are on the blacklist of a lot of places. He's quiet, friendly, loves kids.. just blacklisted. :-\

I'm looking for at least 12 months, but it's very likely I'd stay in the place for several years if I like it.

Any help would be appreciated!

Georgia House Bill 1242 addresses this issue. The bill would allow judges to include pets in domestic-violence protective orders -- legal orders that would require abusers to not come into contact with, harass or interfere with their victims’ animals.
