Event planning on the cheap

My friends and I are planning a fundraiser for mid-April, and we're looking for suggestions of affordable yet hip yet smoke-free spaces (indoor or outdoor) in Atlanta (Downtown, Midtown, L5P, VaHi, Cabbagetown, East Atlanta are preferable), as well as entertainment that would appeal to an eclectic (read: activist/indie/queer) crowd. Spaces we've already considered: Eyedrum, 5 Spot, 11:11 Teahouse, Mary's.

Commence brainstorming!

Beer!

Hey ya'll!!

I need a little assistance. My boyfriend is moving to Atlanta from the Twin Cities and he wants me to take him to find the best beer in Atlanta. He is used to being able to have really good beer brewed in his own town. The lack of good beer has been the only thing he says he is really going to miss. I am great and all and he thinks so too, and yet still I know I am not as great as a cold leinenkugels! If you know where we could get the leinenkugels here then I would be indebted to you for the duration of our relationship.

He is coming down for his last visit before he takes up residence here and I want to surprise him with a trip to a cool bar with the best selection of outstanding beer. I know nothing about beer so I need all you experts in beer to help!! I would be ever grateful! Also, if anyone knows of any breweries in or near Atlanta that have tours I would love that as well. Thanks!

Can y'all get your minds into the gutter?

I need new gutters. Possibly a replacement of a facia board or two. I want to get a cutter cover system, because I don't like heights; I live alone, so there's no one to hold the ladder; and the gutters in the back are about 30' off the ground.

So my question to all and sundry is for good and bad experiences with:

1) Specific systems: There are several competing ones advertised on the radio, and I can't find a comparison.

2) Local contractors for the install: Which ones show up when they said they would and charge what they said they would?

I've got lot of pines, and my main problem is straw more than leaves, if that makes any difference in which gutter system works best.

Thanks in advance.

Ducks!

This may sound kinda silly, but...

I have a squashed loaf of bread and a 10 month old who's favorite new word is "Duck!" SO -

I'm looking for a place to feed the ducks on the west side of Atlanta. A park, a pond, somewhere that's known to have ducks hanging around in Marietta, Douglasville, Powder Springs, Austell, Acworth, Kennesaw or anywhere else in that general area. I know of a few parks near my home, but none have a body of water large enough to attract ducks on a regular basis.

Many thanks if you can help me in my quest!

The Hooha Monologues

(Dodging the filters with the subject line ...)

Some friends of mine are producing and appearing in a local production of "The Vagina Monologues" on Valentine's Day. It's at Onstage Atlanta, Suburban Plaza, just north of Decatur Proper. For folks who've been in Atlanta as long as I have, it's where Belk's used to be.

kayaking.

So I got a kayak, it's an way early anniversary present...but I got one....I brought it home by sliding it in my escape with the back seat down and the back hatch open. To me 40 bucks seemed a lot to spend on the foam 'carrier rack'. So does anyone know a good way/rack to secure a kayak to the roof of my suv? It already has a factory luggage rack on the top...thanks!
