Student Loan Justice, bill introduced to Senate
As much as I love S.511, I am not going to hold my breath. If congresspeople only listened to everyday students then this would have no trouble passing. But students, being that a majority are head over heals in debt from loans, do not have much money to throw at congress, unlike the Sally Mae's and Nelnet's of the student loan shark industry. And bet your bottom dollar that those greedy motherfuckers are going to fight this bill tooth and nail.
The fact that S.511 was introduced, however, is very cool.. and probably has a lot to do with the efforts of Student Loan Justice.
Alan, who formed SLJ several years ago, is currently touring the nation, speaking to representatives and senators from both political parties about the plight of student borrowers. Earlier this week Alan stopped in Georgia to speak with our own Johnny Isakson and Tom Price. His meetings went well, and he encourages local borrowers who have seen their loan balances double (or worse) due to fees and high interest to contact both gentlemen and share your stories.
Oh and Yay for those who didn't borrow, or didn't need to. This bill, and Alan's efforts, are for the rest of us. Seriously - you were fortunate, or smart, not to borrow or to pay your loans off before the interest doubled or tripled the value of the cost of your education.
S.511 does not include language to forgive student loan debt, nor is that what Student Loan Justice is seeking. The student loan industry is rife with corruption, exess and greed and needs reforming. That is the primary aim of Student Loan Justice

Hey Y'all,
I spent a couple of days in the Atlanta area, meeting with the staff of Senator Johnny Isakson, and Congressman Tom Price.
Both of these meetings went pretty well. i will be meeting with them both again in D.C. when I get there. I am forwarding them your stories in the meantime.
Now is the time to call them, and make them feel your pain. Seriously guys. I know its a hassle, but it's time well spent. Much more productive then arguing with student loan companies! Make them FEEL YOUR PAIN. Don't let them off the hook. Call them 10 times if that's what it takes to make your point.
Here are the phone numbers;
Johnny Isakson 3625 Cumberland Blvd Atlanta GA 30339 770-661-0999 Tom Price 3730 Roswell Road Marietta GA 30062 770-565-4990
This is important, guys. Don't let it go.
Keep me posted, too!
Strength in Numbers!
Alan M. Collinge
