Celtic Music in Atlanta

So, are there any pubs in the North Atlanta area that have live traditional Celtic music (bands or sessions...extra points for sessions so I can actually go play in them) and/or Celtic rock/folk bands on any semi-regular basis? More importantly, next weekend and the weekend after?

The only places I know of are the sessions at Fado in Buckhead on Mondays, and the beginners' session at The Harp Pub in Roswell every other Sunday afternoon. I've heard of a few other places, but they're all out in bumble somewhere.

(P.S. traditional Celtic=The Cheiftains, Altan, Solas, some Gaelic storm; Celtic rock/folk=The Pogues, Great Big Sea, Flogging Molly, Seven Nations, Young Dubliners, some other Gaelic Storm. NOT Enya.)

Deferment

Can anyone attending a school with short terms (like Shorter College and U of Phoenix's 5/6 week sessions) tell me anything about part-time status for in-school deferments? My partner is thinking of going back to school, and Shorter has a program she likes. Her employer will pay 80% of her tuition up to 5k per year which would make if affordable for us, if took roughly 5 courses a year (for three years). Basically, she'd be in school every OTHER 5 week term.

What I'm puzzled about is what constitutes part-time when the terms are 5 weeks instead of 16 weeks? Does anyone have a reference point for this?

Vick embarrasses Atlanta again

MIAMI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
NFL star's water bottle draws suspicion at MIA
Security screeners at Miami International Airport called police after Michael Vick left a water bottle that smelled of marijuana.
By EVAN S. BENN
ebenn@MiamiHerald.com

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick was reluctant to throw away his water bottle at a Miami International Airport security checkpoint Wednesday morning.

The reason, police say: The 20-ounce plastic bottle had a secret compartment that had a dark residue and a pungent odor of marijuana. Vick boarded his 8:20 a.m. AirTran flight to Atlanta before screeners called police. Now, Miami-Dade police are examining the bottle and could charge him if it tests positive for drugs.

washer/dryer hookup

Recommendations for washer/dryer hookup in the Norcross-Tucker area? There's a size problem regarding the washer hose so it would have to be a professional job. Thanks.

Motorola A630 - 100

I'm upgrading to T-Mobile's MyFaves plan, and want to sell my existing phone to subsidize my upgrade ;). I'm trying to avoid their two-year committment. I love the phone. It's too bad its not MyFaves compatible. Here's some info on it from Motorola:

http://www.motorola.com/motoinfo/product/details.jsp?globalObjectId=66

Just to clarify: I'm selling the a Motorola A630, charger, car charger, and desktop cradle. I may have the Motorola leather case with bely clip, but I have to find it. I bought a purse with a nice cell pocket and stopped using the case.

Everything is in excellent condition. The phone has no scratches, sticking buttons, or problems of any kind. It's been well cared for. It was used for 18 months....mostly with a bluetooth earphone that I'm keeping.

I see them going for around 100 on Ebay, so that's what I'd like to get.

Email me at peyton at peytonsmind dot com or post a comment if interested.

Blue flame

I've been driving on the southside perimeter near Jonesboro Rd. and I saw a 12 foot or so blue flame coming from the ground. Does anyone know what this is about?

Thoughts overflowing...

Hello Atlantans,

I know there's a lot of Floridian transplants (or escapees?) such as myself here who can relate to this plea-

When I was in FL and needed somewhere to think and reflect, I would go to the beach and feel much better. Unfortunately, I am oceanless now. Are there any beautiful places such as this in Atlanta to meditate/work stuff out? It does not have to include bodies of water.

This place must:
1. be in a safe area
2. not have a lot of people around
3. be relatively easy to get to
4. not cost anything

Any ideas would be appreciated :)

EDIT: Thanks so much for all your suggestions! I'm going to enjoy the heck out of exploring these new places. <3
