Okay everyone, welcome to Avatar: The Last Airbender for Grownups, the adult-friendly community for the absolutely spectacular Avatar: The Last Airbender. If you're here and you don't know what that is, then you are a sadly deprived person and should remedy this immediately.
This is basicaly a general community that welcomes Avatar-themed discussions, fic, art, and whatever else of any rating. That's right folks, this community contains adult material, so be responsible when clicking. We are not you or your children's babysitter =D
That said, for a more child-friendly environment, we recommend ![[info]](http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/community.gif) avatar_fans
Aside from the usual stuff posted to general communities, we also feature a Fun Weekly Activity: group chats during and after every new episode. These are for discussion, keyboard mashing, theories, meeting people, keyboard mashing some more, and whatever else is vaguely related to that week's episode. We'll be doing roundups of each chat session afterwards to showcase some of the most interesting points/most rabid squee for those who missed the fun. There are some rules to these chats but generally it's just all in good fun.
In conjuction with our chats, we have one discussion post per new episode for the firt 24 hours or so, to spare the watchlist. The system is pretty simple: we post the discussion post for the episode, the episode airs, people discuss in the post and chat in the chat. Then after chat closes and discussion dies down, we mods round up the most salient points and more enthusiastic glee from both the chat and the discussion and put that in a new post on Saturday evening. At that point, we encourage you to still keep discussion to the official post, but you're free to make your own posts about the episode and spam the poor watchlist. The process is discussed in more detail here.
As a relatively minor note, we mods will be making extensive use of tags in this community1. This is all in hopes of making YOUR lives easier. If you want to tag your entries yourselves, feel free to, but don't abuse the system. We'll change your tags if we feel they're incorrect or otherwise improper. Flagrant abuse will get you a warning, then a ban. Play nice, folks. We're giving you a good bit of relative freedom here. It might help if you hold off on tagging until you saw how we're working the system. If you then feel like making our lives easier, go right ahead.
Now it's all pretty easygoing around here but we do have some rules that we'd like for you to follow during your stay.

1) No bashing, hating, or frothing at the mouth (except in glee and unless you're Crazy Foaming at Mouth Guy and he doesn't count cause that's glee. Or something.)
- Reasoned discussion, disagreements, etc. are fine. Hatin' and bashin' ain't. If you're old enough to browse this community you're old enough to know the difference.
- Treat everyone here, members or visitors, with respect and courtesy. This isn't difficult. Even if someone's being less than nice. If they do it enough we mods will banninate them but good. And always remember, this is the internets! Obviously it's serious business.
- We maintain the theory that we're all here because we all love the same thing: Avatar! If you feel compelled to rant, wank, or be otherwise less than productive, ask yourself, why be hatin' when you could be writing or reading some hot Avatar porn? POINTS TO CONSIDER.2

2) Stay more or less on-topic
- This is an Avatar-centric community. Personally we think the show's awesomeness is enough to fill entire libraries with pure squee. Hopefully staying on topic won't be a problem.
- It's okay to advertise other communities here as long as they're Avatar-related or Avatar fans are welcome to go be Avatar fans there (such as asking for Avatar characters for a multi-fandom roleplay). But please, try to restrict yourselves to at least vageuly relevant communities.
- An excellent place to serve all your self-pimping needs is atla_press, the fandom newsletter.

| 3) |  LJ-Cut | | |

3) For the love of eveything you hold dear and/or holy LJ-CUT (and if you're fake-cutting please indicate so!)
- If you don't know how to lj-cut, then step right up and learn how -- it's not difficult and your friends list will love you.
- Please put anything of significant length or spoilerific content behind a cut, including discussions, large/multiple images, long fanworks, etc.
- Spoilers: cut spoilers for anything past the first couple of episodes from Book 2. If you want to be super nice, cut any major spoilers before that, too, but we don't require it. That one's your call.
- Fanfic: More than 100 words goes behind a cut, but please have header information outside the cut
- Fan Art: Post the header and a small thumbnail or two if you want outside the cut, but please put the art itself behind a cut
- Icons: A small sampler of icons outside the cut is fine. Most places put this at three, I say use your mad grownup discretionary skillz.
- Other Stuff: Okay guys, theoretically you're all at least 18 here, so I shouldn't have to hold your hand. You get the idea, and if someone comments and asks you to cut, usually it's best to just do it. Especially if it's one of us mods =D
- Fake cuts! Use them as much as you want, but please have some kind of indicator that they are, indeed, big blaring fakes! Don't cleverly disguise them as real cuts unless you actually put in text that says it's fake. Just, you know. Logic.

4) Post! Lots! But tell people what you're posting!
- Include something relevant to your post in the subject line, PLEASE. Keyboard mash all you want up there, but somewhere in those magic 100 characters, include the topic or question you're talking about. For fan works, note the medium and something relevant like the characters, pairing, or title. If you're wondering why we're opressing you so hard, listen up: communities are awesome in part because of lj's archiving capabilites, and let me tell you, when you're trying to find that hot hot Jet/Zuko porn among a sea of (no subject), you can get mighty frustrated.
- For fan works, please include header information. This means basic stuff like a title ("untitled" is fine), characters/pairings, warnings, spoilers, and rating. For AMVs, please include the song artist and title. We will even give you a handy-dandy form to make your life easier. You don't have to use it, but it's here for all you people as lazy as we are.

5) Rules for the weekly chat
We hold a chat during and after the airing of every new episode. This is your opportunity to discuss, squee, meet people, and generally have a rollicking good time. Good times include:
- Reading the chat rules.
- Keyboard mashing and other forms of squee. Mash away! Just be aware that while some members might mash right back, others will be discussing literary allusions. Pay them no mind.
- Intelligent discussion and attempts to seriously analyze the episode. Analyze away! Just be aware that some people might gleefully meta right back at you, others will be incoherently keyboard mashing away. Pay them no mind.
- Anything in between! =D
Good times do not include:
- Bashing, being rude, hating, or generally anything else in violation of rule (1).
- Insanely excessive use of chatspeak. It's a chatroom, but we're also supposed to be literate here. While chatspeak is easier to write, it's often much harder to read. We'll be trying to do chat roundups afterwards and we'd like it all to be legible, please. Also, we're entertaining delusions of maturity here, please humour us. This does not mean you're not allowed to LOL, OMG, or SRSLY at each other, but all chat speak, all the time, along the lines of "omg did u hr that zuko h8s azula so bad lol", is really rather unwelcome.
