Hi everyone Hi everyone!!!! I am new to this community! Very excited to meet u all guys!!! ; ) u will have to help me...i've never been on this type of online journal!!! I am A REAL ATKINS FAN!!! I am very interested in new recepies, news of new products on the market...Want to try buying some foods from uk megastore on line...any suggestions? are the syrups good? and the flaxseed cereal? I am not dieting at the moment though!...let me explain...I don't need to lose weight ( I weigh around 53 kg) but atkins and low carb in general really makes a difference to my lifestyle...and keeps my figure very slim...(I have alcholic drinks only at the weekend though! )when i was 11 i used to get terrible cramps in my stomach...and soon i was dignosed with severe allergies to dairy and wheat...(but still i used to eat a lot of potatoes, rice and other carbs!!!)...I think that made it quite easy for me to go low carb when i decided to lose weight(i was around 17 years old)...I had got to 72 kg!!!!now i keep low carb because it makes me feel great ...I do lots of modelling and this is just thanks to atkins...i could never starve myself and hate feeling hungry...i do excercise a bit( i walk a lot) but i find that with low carb i do not get so much bloated or water retention... With this lifestyle we don't count calories and eat as much as we like(of low carb foods!)...it's great don't u think? don't miss carbs at all..the only thing i really miss is chocolate and real artiginal icecream (i am italian) ...but i sometimes just give in and try to be good the next couple of days.. : ) how about u guys? want to know your stories!!! much love to everyone xxxxxxxxxx : )

Holy cow, i must have got this wrong! On induction you're allowed 20 grams of carbs, right? Thats how i read it, anyway.
Well, i bought a bag of spinach, which said that half a bag was 1.6g carbs... Does that mean i can eat half a bag of spinach??? And still have some cheese or something to add some extra carbs if i want to?
Or have i got that wrong? | | Saturday, June 18th, 2005 | 12:55 pm [slimness]

Counting carbs in the UK Here in the UK a typical food label loooks like ( this )I still am slighty confused regarding counting net carbs, do I subtract the fibre, do I only count the sugars or do I count the total amount of carbs (as the net carb count) and leave the fibre presuming it has already been deducted? Check out your local boots.
The boots near me are selling off the Atkins Chocolate Milkshakes for 50p instead of £1.59, and they are buy one get one free too.
They are also selling the Atkins Morning Shine Strawberry bars, £1 for five, instead of £4.99, also buy one get one free. I am so happy. :)

Keep this community alive! Hey, its a shame this community isn't very active, It would be a lot easier talking to people from Britain about Atkins related stuff that trying to translate things to those in America. Well if any of you guys are still on atkins and are still getting positive resuts etc I urge you to keep posting. I have just discovered that since lowering carbs in March I have lost 8lb so I'm feeling positive! (Just started induction and atkins properly about a week ago) Hope to see more posts in here!! Carb Options? I see Sainsbury's has started stocking a "Carb Options" range, including... would you believe it... a low fat "Carb Options" mayonaise. What is it the point?
So has anyone tried any of the stuff? They don't seem to do lasagne, which is probably the only pasta I'd consider eating these days because I've not been able to find anything of comparable texture for a lasagne. There's also some sauces and soups, but I'm very dubious about them. They also seem to be doing a larger range of curries without rice or bread some of which are really quite tasty. The Korma seems to be the lowest carb one. | | Friday, February 11th, 2005 | 8:27 am [esbat]

Atkins turning in his grave I'm quite sure the 2004 Induction Meal Plan is making old Dr. Atkins turn in his grave. I've never seen so much franken-food. The whole idea was to eat natural unprocessed foods and that is reflected throughout the diet books and cookbooks published before Dr. Atkins died. Anyone coming in new to the diet would do well to get hold of material written by Dr. Atkins himself where possible and ignore half the stuff on the website. I guess it's inevitable really. Their priority no longer seems to be people's health, but selling their manufactured franken-food Atkins bars and sauces and breads, etc. | | Sunday, December 5th, 2004 | 4:58 pm [tonymorel]

My harddrive went boom and took with it all my links and recipes. I've tried searching this place and a few on google, but not found that much which is suitable. Normally this wouldnt be too much of a disaster, but I'm really down with work/life etc and the last thing I want is to fall off the wagon with the diet.
What I'm after is not just main course recipes, but the entire meal, side dishes, starters, deserts
The biggest problem I've got is it has to be mostly fresh food. We just don't have any Atkins friendly products in any local stores. Creme of mushroom/chicken soups are all high carb, no low carb tortilas / pasta, no tomato sauces etc... nout. And because of work I can't order online cause I'm not in the same place long enough to get a delivery (not even same country some of the time)
So, have any of you got any suggestions for meals that don't involve prepackaged jars etc be it recipes or suggestions for websites. I'm primarily a poultry kinda guy, but would love to experiment with fish / veggie / spicey / cheesey / italian / chinese / outer mongolian you name it I'll try it. And the more complex the better. Spending all day in the kitchen preparing something isn't a problem.
Thanks in advance. x-posted to the few links I can remember | | Sunday, September 26th, 2004 | 10:27 pm [tafagirl]

Food budgeting? Hi all,
DH and I are moving to the UK in a couple of weeks (we're in Germany at the moment), and while discussing all sorts of move-related issues we were wondering about food budgets.
We're low-carbers (obviously, as I'm posting here!), eat very little processed foods and have a strong preference for organic food but aren't dogmatic. Mainly, we eat buckets of veggies, lots of eggs and cheese, and at least one portion of meat/poultry/fish a day.
Would you all think that £200-300/month sounds about right?!
Thanks! | | Wednesday, August 25th, 2004 | 4:34 pm [_solstice_]

Newbie Hi, I'm new here. I started doing Atkins yesterday after checking on the Atkins website that it's ok for vegetarians to do. Are there are any other vegetarians doing Atkins here? Also, I love cooking and would be interested in swapping veggie recipes. :) | | Friday, August 13th, 2004 | 2:35 pm [purrthecat]

Today I visited the metro centre in Newcastle, and walked into a shop called Sweet Factory ( sweet-factory.co.uk) with my friend who wanted some sweets. They had a huge selection of sugar free gummies such as cola bottles and other very nice chewy things. But they also had pick 'n' mix 'Sweet 'n' Low' sweets, aswell as bags of 'Sweet 'n' Low' sweets for 99p a bag. They also had sugar free chewing gum for 35p a packet. I just thought I would let you guys know, you can always email them and ask if they are selling over the internet or ask where the nearest store is. :) They are yummy, but they have a slight laxative effect. lol | | Monday, July 5th, 2004 | 12:10 pm [purrthecat]

I just got back from Ibiza today, and I stopped the atkins for about 4 days, but I am starting very strict tomorrow. But I can't stop eating until then. Ever since I have stopped, I have eaten everything in sight. I've just devoured a huge sandwidth bun and 4 bags of crisps. :S

Media.. Anyone else get pissed off with the Media.. "Atkins 'affects conception chances'" http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/3845791.stmThat is of course, as the woman rightly pointed out, if you happen to be a mouse who is a herbivore.. Water water everywhere, but not a drop to drink First of all [sob] I cheated yesterday... The first day of my vacation and on the way to the restaurant for breakfast I managed to fall badly twisting both ankles, grazing my face, cutting my hands and really badly knocking my knee. Feeling in a lot of pain, and very sorry for myself, in addition to the fried egg, bacon and mushrooms I had... a sausage (a cheap one full of crap) and a small hash brown. Damn you comfort food *shakey fist* Now onto the main point... WATER I can't drink it. I feel physically repulsed at the stuff. As a child, you could put a glass of water in front of me, and I would physically vomit at the thought of drinking it. Over the years I've managed to control myself to the point I don't actually throw up when drinking it, but my stomach does backflips at the very thought of it... It's not a pleasent experience and lets face it, with the amount of water you're supposed to drink on Atkins, my day is filled with the constant.... "fear" of having to have the next drink. In all honesty, there's no way I can continue and I'm ready to give up on the diet. The only possible exception is "Perfectly Clear" by SilverSprings. Obviously I've been trying every alternative I can think of, but when I came across this, I found I actually like it. I have to close my eyes so I don't realise what I'm drinking (ok - I have water issues *g*) but other than that, I'm fine with it - both the still and the sparkling versions. FYI: The ingredients are spring water, citric acid, aspartame, sodium benzonate Per 100ml energy 26kj/0.jkcal : protein trace : Carbs Nil : Fat Nil I'm not bothered about the health implications of the Aspartame (with my passion for dangerous hobbies I doubt I'll be around long enough for it to have a problem) I can knock back two / three litres of this in a day quite happily. Is this acceptable alternative to plain water even though it's not an "induction approved" drink, or as I said, should I give up on Atkins completely? Also, is a can of "Sprite Lite" per day allowable as a treat? Again it's aspartame and zero carbs but the office canteen only serves that or fullfat coke and you're not allowed to bring your own drinks into the canteen. Newbie.. Hello. I came accross this community through a friend. I decided to go on a diet back in june and so far have lost around 16lb doing the Atkins diet. My aim is to get back to the weight I was when I left school a couple years ago so I still have another 33lb to loose to get to my goal weight. But the good thing is the weight is coming off. Last week I had a bad week though and I really feel like giving up right now. Its hot and I am fed up of cooking, and missing out on tasty things like chinese and curry. Thatn said I was a bad girl last week - beefeater, curry, chinese, tub of hagen Dias and amazingly I still lost 0.8lb rather than put weight on as I expected I would.. Any support, or new friends welcomed! xxx Current Mood: bouncy | | Thursday, June 10th, 2004 | 10:35 am [cybergreen01]
