the jim rome show (and some other small goodies)

just in case you're living in a cave ...macha is officially gone. that blog cracks me up, by the way. and this one is just as good of a read:

what can $120 million buy?

1. a 3rd place finish (behind a mediocre team)
2. AIDS
3. the most overrated prospects in the history of this universe
4. a bunch of loud mouthed bitches who don't own up to their own worthlessness (you know who you are curt schilling, varitek, jon lester and peter gammons).

with a few nice pictures to boot )

i'm genuinely surprised to hear all of the bullshit coming out now that macha is gone. i must admit, this is the first time i'm hearing negative things about macha from inside of the organization. he had a couple of excellent seasons in the mid-90s managing a minor league team from the local city i grew up in. i suppose that's where my familiarity of his personality ends. what i can't understand is that they brought him back after letting him go once before and the players are said to have "supported" that move. i think it's pretty safe to assume macha didn't turn into an asshole overnight. perhaps billy beane needs to fire himself as well ...something doesn't add up here. the other thing that's been bothering me is zito's supposed departure. if he really wants to leave, he's entitled to that. but if it's a money issue, loaiza and calero = gone. replace them with minor leaguers who can be paid less to pitch equally as shitty. what's the problem here?

awww yeah!

[info]teenagewildlife

break out the champagne, kids ...we're going to the alcs! i have a paper to write, but as soon as i get done with it, i'm going to take plenty of screen caps of the game and edit them into this post.

by the way, i rescind my comment to [info]cookie2697 ...i'm so bummed you didn't get to see the game four though!

edit at 6:05 a.m.: okay, all done, finally. i hope you guys enjoy them =) they certainly took long enough and i'm hoping this will make up for the lack of material i normally have to contribute lol this is a huge post and is not dial-up friendly whatsoever. if that's a problem for anyone, let me know and i'll split them into two separate posts. and for the love of god, please, please, please ask me before re-distributing these anywhere. they took forever to make and i'd really rather not see them popping up all over the place.

100+ screen caps: game 3 of the alds sweep! )

Anyone have video of Zito's press conference from yesterday's game??? MLB doesn't have it, only the transcript. Any help will be greatly appreciated. :D

some random stuff

[info]teenagewildlife

in honor of the alds, there's a new layout in the community. speaking of which, how many of you lucky bastards are going to attend/have attended a playoff game? also, for those that aren't aware yet, barry zito is maintaining a post-season blog over here.

i know everyone has already seen these, but i have a terrible time loading mlb.com photo galleries (yay for dial-up), so i'm going to archive them in here. besides, clubhouse celebration photos never get old.

i was wondering if anyone has read this book yet, and if so, is it worth my time/money?

Congratulations!

If you're an out-of-state fan like me, you got to see next to nothing of the A's celebration after clinching last night. MLB.tv, in its infinite wisdom, carried the Seattle broadcast of the game and of course, they ended their coverage a few minutes after the final out. (When the Mets clinched, MLB.tv carried the Mets broadcast and out-of-state fans of that team got to watch their boys celebrate for a long while after the game was over. I usually roll my eyes when people start bitching about East Coast bias in media coverage, but this irks me.)

At any rate, some poking around online this morning uncovered three minutes of raw footage of the clubhouse celebration via a local Cali station - stream // download. It's not much, but it's better than nothing, I suppose.

MLB.com also has audio clips of clubhouse interviews with several players.

eta: Also, the local CBS affiliate had 10 minutes of raw celebration footage (with an amusing warning that it might contain explicit language) on their website -- stream // download. Interviews with Mach, Big Frank, Milton, Jay, and Chavvy.
