Newcomer Forum at Collegium
Newcomer Forum at Collegium! Everyone is invited! This is not a lecture class, this is an informal open forum. I have the room for 2 hours on Sunday morning, so please feel free to drop in at any time during the class, and to come and go as you like. The main purpose of this forum is to help orient newcomers to the society, and help you get involved in all those things you see and hear about. Bring your questions and concerns, no matter how big, small, odd or obscure. Bring your ideas for projects and your enthusiasm! I'd also like to extend a special invitation to all current, former and future Chatelaines/Hospitallers/Gold Keys and their deputies to join us. One of my goals is to discover how we can better serve our newcomers, while sharing resources and ideas with each other as well. It will also give us a chance to meet and support each other. So whether you've been in the SCA for 4 days or 4 decades, please consider dropping by the Newcomer Forum at Kingdom Collegium! No class fees, no class limits, open door! Lady Morgaine Rhys ap Gruffydd Chatelaine - Barony of Atenveldt Please feel free to crosspost to local lists as appropriate Collegium information can be found at : http://arts.atenveldt.com/ASEvents/AtenveldtKingdomCollegium.aspxand the class schedule is available as a PDF here: http://arts.atenveldt.com/Portals/arts/Documents/Collegium%202009%20Schedule%20052209.pdf Current Mood: hopeful | | Tuesday, March 17th, 2009 | 11:11 am [scribe_ari]

Clarification of How to Send in your Pre-Reg for entries in the A&S Competition
Greetings all, Currently there are very few people that have 1)pre-reg'd for their entries in the Kingdom A&S on October 4th and 2)the Deadline is for things to be postmarked by Sept 4th. On another list we were discussing this and one thing that was not as clear as it could have been is that you can email the information directly to the Kingdom A&S office without the form but you need to fill in *all* of the information from the form. See previous email links to get to the form. So, if you have any questions please contact the Kingdom A&S office or respond on the list. We just want to make sure that everyone has a chance to enter before the deadline. Posadnitsa Ianuk, OL. Current Mood: calm | | Tuesday, August 12th, 2008 | 12:31 pm [nauraki]

Please excuse a shameless plug for those interested, as the SCA is filled with folks that enjoy reading books... http://community.livejournal.com/historybookclub/I made a new LJ community for those of us who like to read and make discussions on historical non-fiction and historical fantasy books - especially books in period for the SCA - as I could not find an appropriate community to otherwise join for such a thing. If you are interested, please join and share your comments about your favority history books! Thanks, ~ Brighid MacCumhal Middle Kingdom | | Thursday, July 31st, 2008 | 3:32 pm [master_godfrey]

War Practices Thank Yous and Upcoming War Practices
First, I want to state a heart felt Huzzah to the autocrats of the Phoenix War Practice for a great site, with nice grass; to the War Kitchen for wonderful soup for the fighters; the waterbearers and chiurgeons for taking such good care of us and to Sundragon for providing tent space for court and a very good event. Huzzah! Second, I want to commend each and every person who was on the fields yesterday, whether it be hard suit, rapier or archery. The looks on all of the faces while at closing court were that mixture of exhaustion, adrenaline and mirth that can only be seen after a hard day of fighting. Looking to my right at my husband Ivan and to my left to Baron Thomas as they (and myself) struggled to stand up during court made me realize that a good day was had by all. The warriors of Atenveldt shine. But something was missing that made the day not so bright. Mayhaps it was the threatening weather around the kingdom, maybe it was the allure of fantasy worlds powered by joysticks and keyboards or maybe it was the plague of sickness that kept many of His Majesty Eduard's army at home. What ever the reason, our numbers were small and that is a sad state to be in this few weeks before war. It is now that I entreat you Atenveldt to shake the rust off of your armor, clean up your blades and check the fletchings on your arrows to show Their Royal Majesty's Eduard and Asa that the Army of Atenveldt outshines even the Sun! Atenveldt is lucky that our weather is fair and we can fight whenever we please in our land. Our enemies fight in barns and schoolhouses to attempt to prepare for the War of Heroes and the War of Valor! Come out all to the fields of Florence this Sunday and the parks of Tucson the following Sunday. Bring your friends, carpool for good days of fighting in weather that is only better in Vallhalla! See you on the field. Posadnitsa Ianuk Baroness of Tir Ysgithr x-posted to my personal and others Current Mood: calm | | Wednesday, December 12th, 2007 | 6:06 pm [ladymorgaine]

ROSES CANCER TOURNAMENT AT ESTRELLA WAR XXIV Greetings Unto the Known World!
It is my honor to once again host the "Roses Cancer Tournament" at Estrella War XXIV (Feb 12-18, 2008) to Honor friends and loved ones dealing with cancer and raise donations for the American Cancer Society (ACS). Last year's Tournament raised almost $4000 in donations to ACS! This year, there will be several different Prize Tournaments and a silent prize auction to raise funds.
The hardsuit Prize Tournament will be held Friday, Feb 15, 2008 at 2 PM. First place prize will be a helmet donated from Windrose Armoury. The tournament has a minimum entry fee of $5, but any more you wish to donate will go directly to the American Cancer Society and be most appreciated. This year's tournament will be held in the honor of four wonderful women: Countess Haley of Atenveldt, Countess Alianora of Atenveldt, Duchess Ariel of Atlantia, and Her Ladyship Regan of Atenveldt.
Last year there were so many offers for prizes that we are adding a silent prize auction to add to the funds we might raise and share the donated prizes with those who come out to support the cause. The auction will be held at the same time as the hardsuit tournament. If you are interested in donating prizes, please contact Countess Alianora at fretknot@ cox.net [OMIT SPACES].
If you or anyone you know has suffered through cancer, come and support this worthy cause! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at marianavivia@ gmail.com [OMIT SPACES].

ESTRELLA WAR XXIV: Interactive Event Map/Camping Map Page! The Event Coordinators for Estrella War XXIV (Feb 12-18, 2008) are pleased to announce that a new "Event Site Maps" page has been added to the www.estrellawar.org website. See: http://www.estrellawar.org/EventSiteMaps/tabid/498/Default.aspx
On this page, you will find a Flash enabled interactive event site map, along with several sizes of downloadable versions of the event site map. These maps display the locations for key activities planned at the event, and show the camping areas designated for the Principal Kingdoms (Atenveldt, Caid, Outlands and Artemisia) hosting Estrella War XXIV.
A separate portion of the page is also reserved for "Principal Kingdom Camping Maps", so the camping areas designated for specific groups within the Principal Kingdoms can be viewed. The first of these (the map for the Kingdom of Atenveldt camping area) is now online. Maps for Caid, Outlands and Artemisia will be added when they are available.
The Estrella War website (www.estrellawar.org) has a wealth of information about the Estrella War XXIV to be held Feb 12 - 18, 2008 at Canyon Moon Ranch in Florence, AZ. If you're considering scheduling a winter vacation to attend the event next year, your planning should start with looking at the Estrella War website!

ESTRELLA WAR XXIV: Pick your most FUN place to Volunteer! Not everyone knows that Estrella War XXIV (Feb 12-18, 2008) is a week long, SCA event for over 7,000 people that is completely run by volunteers. So everyone working at the event, from the Main Event Coordinators to the person standing at the entrance directing traffic, is an unpaid volunteer. That's why everyone who attends Estrella War is asked to share the work by volunteering for 2-4 hours while they attend.
Luckily, many do volunteer, not just because they are asked, but because the hours spent volunteering are wonderfully fun and rewarding. (See the http://www.estrellawar.org/volunteering.aspx page of the event website to read more about why people have fun volunteering!) An important part of enjoying volunteering is choosing the area that's the MOST FUN place for you to lend a hand and volunteer to help. | 9:03 am [nicoletelarossa]
