Kipling's Cat ([info]mintogrubb) wrote in [info]astrologicals_,

text book Astrology.

leaving aside the rubbish that gets written by the likes of Russell Grant, one can go and get a proper Astrological textbook. 'Parkers' Astrology', for instance , by Julia and Derek Parker, is certianly my favourite, but there are others.

Even here, though, beware of cook book interpretations.
For instance, if your subject has a Libra Sun, you may consult and find that a Libra is about balance, gentle diplomacy, a tendency to sit on the fence, so to speak. however, what if a Libra sun finds itself in the 8th House, conjunct Pluto? remember that Pluto rules scorpio, and Pluto rules the 8th hse. In this case, I can seegentle Libra taking a back seat and Scorpio taking over.

The thing to remember is that each person has 10 planets, who all have a say in making the character of the native. In the case above, our 8th hse sun may well decide to become an investigator, a whistle blower or undercover agent. yet I can see that Libra may decide to do things her way. A big smile and a bit of charm to talk her way into getting the info she wants would certainly be the way Libra operates, but the emphasis is more toward espionage that artistry, I feel.

look at the whole chart - see who is supporting who, and where there is tension between the planets.

I am sure we all agree that it's a most interesting chart. if anyone wants to comment, feel free - I will offer an interpretation later.

Very interesting comments, Minto. I'm a Virgo Sun, but that Sun sits in the twelfth house along with four other planets. I always used to shrug off astrology when I was younger because the Virgo elements didn't seem to have much relevance.

It's so long since I interpreted a chart, I won't have a go, except to say what a pretty kite, and how firmly Saturn is sitting there at the bottom of the chart with all the other planets' reins in his hands.

So does this explain why I've always wanted to be a secret agent?

Well, like I said, scorpio is into poking into dark corners and confronting anything that hides in the shadows. it is about eliminating things and recycling them back into service. you are Libra sun, but sun in 8th, conjunct Pluto? That's Spooky!!
Do you really have a hankering to be a secret agent, or you just habing me on here? I am an astrologerr, but also have Cap rising with Saturn in Scorp conj MC. - I have a tendency to doubt myself strongly and fear tra[ps being laid, in other words...

Jupiter sits on your MC (ambition, and with saggitarius too, there are braod horizons, a voice in your head that says "go fast, go far" - however, saturn opposes this . saturn stands for limitation, struggles with authority (dad, teacher, anyone else who's in charge.) there are ways round it though. both mum and dad have your best interests at heart (trines to sun and moon, plus good aspect to saturn) as long as you can convince them that you are sane and will be sfe, it will be ok with them. Likewise , you can be inventivem independent and self motivated. that does help if you want to fullfill your dreams. keep doing the research, talk about your plans, talk to people who are placed to help and sponsor you, and you can have it . Good luck!

*I* always thought that I'd be a good spy. No one else does, however, because I do have a tendency to talk too much and can't keep a secret to save my soul. Or so they think.
Spooky, eh? I haven't quite had it described like that before.
I had two friends in grad school who were astrologers. I remember one of them telling me to absolutely not marry my husband. Since we're getting divorced, he might have been on to something.
In real life, after getting my Ph.D. in philosophy, I ran off to law school where I was briefly a public defender and now work for the government. Was greatly amused by your comment that corrupt politicans should fear me.
In my heart of hearts, though, I'd be a writer.

n my heart of hearts, though, I'd be a writer.

Libra sun will always be an artist... ever thought about writing mystery novels? or whodunnit type stuff? Mercury in Virgo...analytical, very neat.

you need not write fiction - you could take up journalism instead, and yeah, I still reckon that the bad guys should ph33r you immensely...

Your internet speak scares me. Is that how the kids these days express the word "fear"?
Used to be into journalism, a lifetime ago. I gave it up at the urging of the man who just left me.
I'm rather fond of crime, actually.
You still haven't said why my profile is "spooky". Spooky isn't the reaction I get from a lot of people. Although, come to think of it, my friend the astrologer was always super weird around me after he ran my profile. I just assumed he was a bit of a freak.

Sorry - I did not mean to come over all weird.
Just remember that I am in Britain, on the other side of the world and have not got a jet plane, or even your home address...

'spooky' may not be the right word... what I mean is that there is a lot of hidden depth in this chart.

moon in aquarius, loves freedom , happy go lucky, sun in libra - very light and gentle, but there are other influences - mars is near the moon, Pluto sides up to you sun... there is a core of steel inside the light and fluffy exterior.
I find that intruiging...
You say that people tellyou that you would not be any good as a spy. Its the sort of person you don't suspect that is the most dangerous. when you say " fond of crime2, you mean like you don't do it yourself, but you activly wonder what makes people tick, how exactly *is* money laundered, and wonder who is behind the drugs business in your local area...? me to . i have saturn in Scorpio myself and pluto conj mercury.

That is me in the picture, wearing glasses. As you can see , I am into falconry among other things.

You weren't *that* weird -- the ph33r thing threw me for a minute.

I actually have a fairly good idea who is behind the drug business in my area and it's not all that hard to figure out how money is laundered. I was thinking of something involving a bit more blood and gore and creepy crawlies. I've always been fascinated by the dark underbelly of society and people. It's fun to pick up rocks and see what crawls out.

Just think of me as light and fluffy. Most people do, you know. :) I sure as hell wouldn't be mistaken for a goth.

If you hadn't mentioned it, I wouldn't have guessed *ever* that you were into falconry. Not so much a big sport in the states. I'm not even sure I would have recognized it as a falcon, come to think of it.

But back to astrology. Is the best intro text to pick up Parkers?

the ph33r thing threw me for a minute.

it was not supposed to... sorry, it is a daft thing that kids say on the net. i am 50 , I oughtta know better.

It's fun to pick up rocks and see what crawls out.

uhu. it takes a certain kind of mind to be interseted in what others would rather ignore, though.

Just think of me as light and fluffy. Most people do, you know.

that does not surprise me. The niceness is very real and authentic, but like I say, there is a steel core deep down. people do not expect that , any more than they expect somene who is old enough to be their grandad to be up on the internet lingo they use at school.

I'm not even sure I would have recognized it as a falcon, come to think of it.

actually, it is somebody elses Tawny Eagle, but i could not resist having my pic taken with that li'l beuty sitting on my hand, could I?

Parkers? yup, and Liz Greene's "Relating" also comes highly recommended.
Do read parkers first and it will help you to understandd the basics.

The fact that it's an eagle might explain why it's so incredibly huge. I thought that perhaps someone was just very very close to the bird when they took the picture.

Still haven't picked up the books yet. I'm a bit of a slacker that way. It's starting slowly but surely to come back to me -- I converted to atheism on marriage, and the soon to be ex *hated* astrology. (he was a Skeptic)
