 hello ACK!

alright, there is a new location for the next 2 weeks.

this thursday May 8, 2008 we will be at Igloo Cafe.
Igloo Cafe
22-26 31st Street
718 726-7700

It is located just off the N/W Train at Ditmars Blvd.

we will also be meeting at Igloo next week, May 22, 2008 at 8pm.

I spoke with the manager yesterday who was very nice about having us over. he asked that everyone purchase something-- smoothies, ice cream, coffees, appetizers, or a meal if you like. Igloo is a staple of the Ditmars area-- there is something for everyone on the menu, and everything is good!

*please let me know if you will be attending so i know how many seats we need*

so dont forget to bring your latest work in progress and let's have a good time tomorrow!
 hello crafters!!!

19th Street in a grassy area near there.

here is more information on World  Wide Knit In Public Day:

we are very excited about this event! it should be a lot of fun and a very relaxing way to get to know more Knitters, Crocheters, Spinners, Crafters in your own neighborhood, while enjoying time in one of the city's best parks, Astoria Park!

we have started a blog just for this event, just to post up announcements and new information as we get it:

http://astoriakip.blogspot.com/

so book mark this website and check back every so often for new ideas and developments for this event. and as always, i will keep everyone on this list updated about these developments. you can always check our ACK Blog for announcements and other crafty
events.

 hello crafters!!!

come out tomorrow night to Freeze Peach for another night of ACK!

the weather is finally feeling like spring, and we are all turning to cooling down a little bit. i'm sure tomorrow will be warm enough and everyone will want to have an iced drink! Freeze Peach Iced drinks are the best! try a hibiscus ginger, iced hot chocolate, or an iced coffee! or anything else on the Freeze Peach Menu-- it's all fabulous!!

and dont forget to bring your latest work in progress or show off a project you have completed!

we had a great turn out last week for charity crafting, it would be great to have a good turn out again tomorrow night!

Rosemary
hello crafters!

it's time for another night of crafting!

please join us tomorrow, Thursday, April 10, 2008 at about 8pm ish at Freeze Peach (www.freezepeach.org) for another evening of crafting! seems like it's going to be a nice day tomorrow! would be great to have your tea, coffee, or hot chocolate, iced! yay! spring is here! Freeze Peach has excellent beverage choices, so support this amazing local neighborhood venue!

be sure to bring your latest work in progress, or show off a project you just finished!

as always, if you wish to learn to knit or crochet, bring along yarn, and appropriate needles or hooks and we will be happy to get you started!

there is also another event that some of our members will be attending tomorrow night:
http://blogs.seamenschurch.org/2008/03/26/bobmas-eve/
should be interesting especially if you are on ravelry.

lots of craftiness going on tomorrow! come out and join the fun!
hello crafters!

it's ACK TIME!!! join us tomorrow, Thursday, April 3, 2008 at about 8pm ish at Freeze Peach (www.freezepeach.org) for crafting! bring along your latest project, or any recent projects you have finished that you wanted to show off!

as always, be sure to purchase something from our venue who has been housing our group for the past 4 years... they have the BEST hand brewed tea and coffee in Astoria, plus they have local hand made snacks too! the hot chocolate isnt bad either! (after walking back home tonight, i could use some Freeze Peach hot chocolate!!)

hope to see you all tomorrow!
hello crafters!

tomorrow night is ACK!! join us tomorrow, Thursday, March 27, 2008 at about 8pm ish at Freeze Peach (www.freezepeach.org) dont forget to order some hand-brewed tea, coffee, or delicious hot chocolate and / or a snack at Freeze Peach! Freeze Peach has been such a great venue for our group for the past 4 years!

last week was a success! thanks to everyone who came out to join us, contributed yarn, made squares, and thanks to tracie who helped with the donation of yarn!

so this was our first event like this in a while. if anyone has any feedback, comments, suggestions, etc, about our event last week, please let me know by emailing me or speaking with me tomorrow at group. it would be great to do swaps-- but i think we should wait at least 3 mos for another one...what does everyone else think? making squares for Project Linus
will happen every 3rd Thursday of every month if there is not a holiday. so this will be great. once we accumulate enough squares, we will begin working on putting together a blanket. exciting!

during group last week, someone mentioned having a knit out in Astoria Park. i think that's a great idea, and we should do it in June or so. what else does everyone think? should be fun!

as always, we can continue to talk about this together while at the Freeze Peach, and if anyone has any new ideas to contribute, by all means, let us know and we can bounce around ideas!

see you all tomorrow!

Spring 2008 got off to a GREAT Start!

  • Mar. 22nd, 2008 at 6:54 AM

holy crap!!! look at all that yarn! everyone brought yarn for the Yarn Swap, which i thought was a great success! thanks to everyone for participating and bringing in yarn to swap! thanks to Tracie for lugging all the leftover yarn back. we will be donating (hopefully) to a senior group learning to knit or crochet in the Queens Area. i think the swap went well, and we should do this again in a couple of months....

also, the Charity Crafting went very well! we are working on squares and / or blankets for Project Linus. (www.projectlinus.org).

so hope to see you all next week! we will definitely be doing charity crafting on a monthly basis-- the 3rd Thursday of every month, if there is not a holiday.

send me a private message if you wish to be added to the email list!

bonus!

hello crafters!!

tomorrow, Thursday March 20, 2008, is going to be an exciting night for ACK! we are doing 2 new activities in one night!!!! amazing! here's the details:

1) Yarn Swap! this is a basic yarn swap. basically, you bring yarn from your stash that you just dont want anymore. we put it on the table, and people take whatever they like. whatever is left on the table at the end of the night will be donated to a charity. charity to be determined at group tomorrow. so be there if you have a suggestion!

2) Charity Crafting!! the group has decided to do charity crafting for Project Linus (
http://www.projectlinus.org/ ) . basically, bring yarn and knit or crochet a square for a blanket to be put together for this organization. there are no restrictions or size requirements for the squares. it's easy, fun, and you are contributing to a good cause! this is exciting!

i hope to see you all tomorrow!!
bring your cameras!!
hello crafters!!!

please join us tomorrow, Thursday March 6, 2008 at 8pm ish at Freeze Peach Cafe (www.freezepeach.org) for crafting!

last week we had a good discussion about events to come up in the future.... well, there's going to be 2 on one day!

March 20, 2008 ---
1) Spring Cleaning Yarn Swap-- bring in whatever yarn you dont want sitting around in your closet anymore. everyone can take whatever is placed on the table on that night. at the end of the night, any yarn that is not going to a good home, we will donate the yarn for an organization that does charity crafting... speaking of...

2)Charity Crafting will begin tonight as well. the group decided to make squares for Project Linus once a month and we will begin our first squares on March 20th. there is a Project Linus in Queens, and we will be in touch with them in the near future... i am also being flexible about this -- if you get bored with squares, feel free to bring in another project you are working on for charity. i understand that we all have different interests, but just as long as we are making and giving to a good cause, it is good. :)

hope you can join us tomorrow.... it's going to be a good day... IT'S MY BORNDAY!!!!

see you all tomorrow!
hello crafters!!!

tomorrow is craft night! it was great to see everyone
again! i feel like i havent seen any of you for a
while!

well, we had a great group last week.

2 activities that we definitely want to happen.

1) yarn swap-- we will be doing this on March 20, 2008. everyone brings whatever yarn they feel comfortable parting with (it does not matter how much,
how expensive, or how long it's been in your stash) we will put it on the table, and everyone grabs what they want! leftover yarns will be given to charity groups... which leads us to...

2) charity crafting! we think it would be a great idea to make something for charity all together once a month at our gatherings. i feel it would be best to give to charity either in the queens / astoria / or nyc area. if you have any ideas about which charity would be appropriate for this, please let me know and we can all discuss this together tomorrow and the weeks to come. :)

so, join us tomorrow, Thursday Feb 28, 2008 at about 8pm ish at Freeze Peach Cafe (www.freezepeach.org) for crafting, hand brewed teas, coffees, and hand mixed hot choclates and other awesome beverages. plus yummy local snackies! yum!!!

hope to see you tomorrow!
hello crafters!

let's get back in the swing of things!

it's time for another ACK this week!

join us tomorrow, Thursday February 21, 2008 at about 8pm ish at Freeze Peach (www.freezepeach.org) to get
together for some crafting!!

please bring your latest project and finish all those projects that we need to complete before the weather
gets warm!!!

Freeze Peach has been so great to us... so if you join us, please purchase something from the cafe-- they
have excellent hand brewed teas, coffees, hot chocolate, steamers, and local made snacks! Freeze
Peach and ACK have this awesome symbiotic relationship--- they allow us to have our fun crafting
nights every week, and Freeze Peach gains more business from  having us there every week... so
support this local business in your community!

hope to see you all tomorrow!
 hello crafters!!!

ACK is tomorrow night, Thursday January 31, 2008 at 8pm (ish) at Freeze Peach Cafe (www.freezepeach.org)

so bring your latest unfinished project, or your latest finished project... preferably if your name is joyce and you made a gorgeous shawl. ;)

but as always, make sure to purchase something from the Freeze Peach, as they have been supporting our
group for the past 4 years!!! their teas and coffees are all hand brewed with love and they are excellent!
hot chocolate is also awesome! they also have local and handmade snacks which always hit the spot.

check out the post below for pics of Joyce's shawl!!!
thanks to kim for posting up the pics!

hope to see you all tomorrow night!
hello CRAFTERS!!!

it's Thursday and it's time for ACK!!

i know the weather's been pretty wild lately, but one thing is always constant-- we are always there for craft night! so please join us again this evening Thursday January 24, 2008 at 8pm ish at Freeze Peach (www.freezepeach.org) and bring your latest project. be sure to purchase a piping hot cup of tea, coffee, or hot chocolate to support the Freeze Peach, our faithful venue for the past 4 years!!!

ok, it's been an ACK tradition to make Valentines the week before Valentine's day... who's down?! this is
always a fun little activity. we ask that everyone brings some supplies that they are willing to share
with the group-- construction paper, scissors, glue, valentine's lace, ribbon, stickers, old magazines for
collaging... etc. it's really fun. and you can even give valentines to each other, your loved ones, or
even random people at the cafe!

we were thinking of doing this on February 7, 2008, which also happens to be our fellow ACK Member, Kim's
Birthday. we will craft for a little while, but possibly cut the night short in order to sing Kim happy birthday, and possibly out for drinks, etc....

also-- Valentine's Day happens to fall on a Thursday this year!! craziness! i dont know how many of you are
paired up and planning a special night for yourself and your significant other... myself and other
crafters were debating whether to have craft night or to cancel it... please give us some feedback. my other
thought for Valentine's Day was to do similar to the Valentine's crafts was to craft for a little while,
cut the night short and go party and mingle and have some drinks at a local restaurant/bar near the Freeze
Peach (such as Fatty's or Stini Yiamas which are both on Ditmars), so again, give me some feedback on this!

ok! hope to see you all tonight!!!

yarn store news! the infamous Seaport Yarns (www.seaportyarn.com) will be moving to a new address
on Wednesday Jan 30, 2008. here's the new address:
Seaport Yarn
181 Broadway
Fifth Floor
New York, NY 10007

ok! hope to see you later today!!!
 hello crafters!!!

it's time for another ACK!

please bring along your latest project, and let's continue with our resolutions to finish all those
projects that we start... dont laugh. that's why you have this group, for support through those tough
times!!!

so join us tonight at Freeze Peach (www.freezepeach.org) at 8pm ish and curl up with your project and a nice warm cup of Freeze Peach beverage... yum!!!!

see you all later tonight!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ACK!!!

i hope everyone had a good time during the holidays! and i wish everyone a happy new year and that you may finish all your unfinished projects this year!

for reals!!

tomorrow is Thursday and it's back to the routine of things again. join us once again at 8pm ish at Freeze Peach Cafe (www.freezepeach.org) for crafting, warm drinks, and local snacks.

and of course, bring your latest project and have a good time working on it with other crafters!

i hope that this year ACK has a lot of fun activities for everyone to join in. so if you have any ideas for things we should do as a group, send them along!

i hope to see you tomorrow!!

PS-- sooooo sorry for not sending out an email last week. if you came out for ACK last week, you are AWESOME! i was just coming back from seeing my parents
and got back late and i did not send out an email, that was my fault. but everyone is more than welcomed to still do ACK even though i'm not there. if the cafe is open on a Thursday, they'd love to have you. they
LOVE ACK! :-D
hello astoria crafters!

hope you are well!

tomorrow is Thursday and it's CRAFTY TIME! so please join us tomorrow at 8pm at Freeze Peach (www.freezepeach.org) and bring your latest unfinished
project... or your last minute holiday gifts!!!

last week was the ACC Craft Fair at Waltz. all the ladies who sold their crafts are very talented! unfortunately, a snow storm landed on our craft fair
and there wasnt much business. but dont worry, ACC plans on doing more of these events in the future, and Song from Waltz-Astoria is really receptive to us so we hope she'll have us along in the coming year. so
stay tuned!

something else that i found out on sunday-- the article that Krista wrote about the craft community in Astoria was published in Ins&Outs magazine which is available for free at various Astoria/LIC businesses. it's got a lovely pic of kim, lily, and i in the article. so excited to see it! and i hope more of our neighbors join us!

i will be bringing a copy of the magazine tomorrow so we can all ohh and ahh at it. :)

ok, hope to see you soon! and if i dont see you, have a good holiday/vacation/etc!
another craft fair!!

Craft Fair at Waltz-- Success!!

  • Dec. 2nd, 2007 at 9:05 PM
Craft Fair at Waltz-Astoria is a success!!

all of the vendors of the craft fair were concerned that the freezing cold and the snow were going to result in a craft fair with a low turn out.

BOY WERE WE WRONG!!!

we had an excellent turn out! lots of foot traffic and i think that the vendors had a great time selling their crafts.

all of the vendors had very beautiful and professional looking items.

a big thanks to:
Astoria Craft Collective
Waltz-Astoria
Krista and Lorina and Jenn for organizing, advertising, and getting everything together!
Everyone who came out to see us
All the vendors and their beautiful crafts!

we hope to see everyone who is interested in joining us at ACK on Thursdays! please email me to be included on the email list!
