Hello everyone!
We had an EXCELLENT turnout last Saturday for the 2nd Astoria Knit In Public day! Thanks so much to everyone who came out. Very special thanks to all who prepared a presentation for the day. Most of the great people who showed up already knew a whole bunch about their craft, but we appreciated all the effort you put into the presentation. It really was a good group, and everyone learned a little bit of something else just the same.
We hope you continue to join us at our weekly meetings!
Please join us tomorrow at Lefkos Pirgos, at the corner of 23rd Ave and 31st Street in Astoria, NY tomorrow, Thursday June 18, 2009 at about 8pm ish. Please bring your latest project, and have some fun!
Please note, that we will be changing locations beginning in July.... just giving you a heads up! Please check the email and blog for more information!

Hello ACK!
I just walked by Lefkos Pirgos on the way back home, and saw that it was closed. Through the window, I tried to talk to the person who was cleaning, and he was basically saying that they would be closed tomorrow.
So, I have decided that ACK will meet tomorrow Thursday May 14, 2009 at 8pm ish at Igloo Cafe. This Cafe is located at 22-26 31st Street, between Ditmars and 23rd Avenue, underneath the N/W Ttrain at Ditmars Blvd in Astoria.
Please join us tomorrow, and I apologize for the short notice on the change of venue. :)

Hello everyone!
Tomorrow we will meet again for ACK, Astoria Crafty Knitty Group! We meet at Lefkos Pirgos (corner of 23rd Ave and 31st Street underneath the N/W Train Station at Ditmars Blvd, 22-85 31st Street, Astoria, NY 718 932-4423). We usually get a bunch of tables in the back of the cafe. We usually meet at about 8pm ish.
I apologize for not being at ACK last week, but there was a once in a lifetime event that I needed to attend. ;) Tomorrow, I will also not be on time for ACK. I will be attending the talk with Robyn Love at the Lion Brand Studio. This event is only for people who have RSVP'ed... if you did end up RSVP'ing for this event, please let me know. Otherwise, I will be joining you all at ACK after I come back from this event. I'm actually pretty excited about this talk-- it's great to see people doing crazy cool things with crochet: http://robynlove.com/
Again, Kim and I are organizing a Knit In Public Day at Astoria Park on June 13, 2008. All are welcomed to attend. We are also looking for people who would like to share a certain kind of technique in either crochet or knitting that you would be willing to present and teach to people who attend this event. Please let myself or Kim know if you would like to present on a topic for KIP. Otherwise, clear out your calendars and invite some friends for a lovely day of knitting / crocheting in Astoria Park in solidarity with the rest of the knitters and crocheters across the globe! :)

Hello ACK!
Well, I still haven't heard if I will be going to the MySpace Secret show for the Sounds....oh well. So I will be joining you all at ACK. :)
We have some exciting news! Kim and I will be organizing the World Wide Knit In Public (KIP) in Astoria Park this year! It will be held on June 13, 2009 in Astoria Park! We are looking for maybe 1 or 2 more volunteers who would be interested in presenting on a technique they would like to talk about and demonstrate how to do on this day. Please join us tonight to talk more about this great event! Kim and I organized our first one last year, and it was a GREAT success! We'd love to have you this year again!
Reminder: Robyn Love will be doing a talk about her crochet installations at Lion Brand Studio on May 7, 2009. Please RSVP at Lion Brand for this event if you are interested in going. I RSVP'ed and I will be going to this event! It would be great to have some more ACK Members there. Good Morning ACK!
Sorry for the late email!
It was great to see everyone last week, and thank you very much for your Baby Blanket Donations for Bridge to Life! Keep working on them when you can. We will be having Charity Blanket Night again on May 21, 2009.
Tonight is regular ACK, so bring whatever projects you are working on, show them off, and have a great time! We will be meeting this evening at about 8pm ish at Lefkos Pirgos (corner of 23rd Ave and 31st Street underneath the N/W Train Station at Ditmars Blvd, 22-85 31st Street, Astoria, NY 718 932-4423). We usually get a bunch of tables in the back of the cafe.
I wanted to throw something out there for an event going on at Lion Brand Studio. Lion Brand Studio is a fabulous store with ALL of Lion Brand's Products. There will be a talk by a woman named Robyn Love, who if you remember a few weeks ago, I sent around an email video about her crocheting a Water Tower Cozy, and then using the water tower cozy to donate the blankets for homeless in the community. She is doing a talk on May 7, 2009 at Lion Brand Studio a 7p. Here is the information on where to RSVP, and more about Robyn Love:
http://www.lionbrandyarnstudio.com/lion StudioBlog/?p=859
I will be RSVP'ing to this event. Please let me know if you wish to attend this with me too, and be sure to RSVP before there is no room! We will stil have ACK that night, so if there are any of you who do not wish to attend this event, just go on down to Lefkos, and begin knitting/crocheting and we'll be back after the event!
Anyway, I hope to see you all tonight!

Hello ACK!
It's still cold out!! Argh!
But we have a few announcements this week.
This week is Charity Crafting Week. Please bring along a project you are working on for charity. The charity we are donating to is Bridge to Life, and organization that provides pregnant women who cannot afford it, supplies for their baby such as Cribs and carriers. Along with the items, they like to give baby blankets. We are accepting baby blankets in the size of 36 inches by 36 inches, warm hats, and other hand made items. Please be sure to make items that are made of acrylic or cotton, as animal fibers such as wool could cause and allergic reaction for a newborn.
Also, one of our friends from the Freeze Peach sent me a message saying that his mother is clearing out some space and is donating some knitting needles, this is what he writes:
"And so I have 3 pair of knitting needles, sizes: 5, 6 and 9 ( Aero Bernat, England is marked on one set.) Let me know if you guys are local and I'll drop them off."
If you would like these needles, please let me know, and I can have Kevin drop by Lefkos one of these weeks.
Ok everyone! I hope to see you all tomorrow, Thursday April 16, 2009 at about 8pm ish at Lefkos Pirgos at 23rd Avenue and 31st Street in Astoria Blvd, underneath the Ditmars Blvd N/W Station.

Hello Crafters!!
A few announcements.
Please join us tomorrow, Thursday March 19, 2009 at 8pm ish for ACK at Lefkos Pirgos at the corner of 23rd Ave and 31st Street underneath the N/W Train Station at Ditmars Blvd ( 22-85 31st Street 718 932-4423). We usually sit in the back of the cafe, so look out for us. :)
This week is the 3rd week of the month, and that means it's Charity Crafting Week at ACK. We have been making baby blankets for Bridge to Life, an organization that donates much needed items to pregnant women who cannot afford them. Along with the donated items, they give little blankets to cover the baby. This week I heard from our contact that they would actually like the blankets to be a little bigger. I was previously telling everyone to make blankets 24" by 24". Now they are asking the blankets to be 36" by 36". They are also accepting warm baby items such as baby hats, booties, and other warm baby items. Please remember that these donated baby items need to be made of acrylic or cotton materials, not wool or other animal fibers, so babies will not have an allergic reaction to these items. Please remember that I have received a LARGE donation of acrylic yarn in cones and balled up. I will bring a bag of this yarn for people to use for the baby blankets. If you need you need more yarn, please let me know ahead of time, and I will be sure to bring this.
Also, on a last note. This weekend I noticed that I do not have access to my Ravelry account. This was a surprise to me as I barely log on, and when I do, I just post up for our community. I am trying to communicate with them to see if they will reinstate my account, but at this time, I cannot get into it. As always, you can always get updates for our group by looking at this blog. If you know anyone that wished to communicate with me and they were on ravelry, please forward them onto the group's blog, the way things were before Ravelry!
And as always, the best way to communicate about the group is to join us every Thursday night at our weekly meetings and speak to me directly! See you all tomorrow!

Please join us tomorrow, Thursday March 5, 2009 at 8pm at Lefkos Pirgos at the corner of 23rd Ave and 31st Street underneath the N/W Train Station at Ditmars Blvd ( 22-85 31st Street 718 932-4423). We usually get
a table in the back, and sip on warm drinks and yummy Greek Pastries!
Please join us anad bring your latest unfinished project, or show off a finished one. As always, I'd be happy to help you learn something new (if I know how to do it), and many of our members are also willing to help you learn as well. We are a friendly open group and we have been learning so much from each other over the past few years.
I hope to see you all tomorrow night!

We have a VERY talented member of ACK. Audrey is a very skilled knitter, and kind of developed this pattern using different methods from Barbara Walker's books. This blanket is worked from the center, in the round, out. It is quite beautiful. I belive this is just Lion Heart Baby yarn. This blanket will be donated to Bridge to Life, which provides goods and supplies for pregnant women who cannot afford them.
Thanks to Audrey for the beautiful blanket!
ACK makes blankets for Bridge to Life, and we all bring our charity blankets projects to work on, or completed blankets on the 3rd Thursday of every month.
Please let me know if you had any questions!
