Set List:
A Soft Hum
Song for Luna
96 Heartbeats
Breakers
The Carousel
Be Here Now
Into the Flood
Ghosts of York
O Holy Night
Stab City
Maybe I'm Just Tired

ENCORE 1
505
Love Love Love
Break Blossom

ENCORE 2
The Acrobat

Lots to say. For starters, it was not their best live performance. HighLine Ballroom this summer was far better. Julio had a bass glitch on 96 Heartbeats, Dan was drowned out on Song for Luna, Dan had a vocal glitch somewhere in the middle of the set (I think around Breakers or The Carousel) but overall it brought a lot to the table.

I dont know if I like A Soft Hum as an opening song but after hearing they had opened with it in Portland, ME it was neat to hear it. It works. If it stuck around as an opener, I wouldn't be disappointed. I liked hearing the band sing the "Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh." From the get-go the band seemed very poised and very calculated. I know they usually are but they seemed especially so as they opened the set. They got a bit looser in their stage presence and their crowd chatter but the way they opened was very professional and I think it spoke volumes to how high they've climbed.

The drums on Luna were redonkulous. Cliff. Wow. Wow. It felt as if Dan was drowned out though through part of it. Julio's backing vocals also seemed accentuated here (a theme which would continue through the night). The last minute and a half of this song is usually always something special but it really worked because the crowd initiated handclaps that really got the vibe loose. It was a good moment.

As they kicked on into 96 Heartbeats the crowd went nuts. Later in the night Julio said, "You guys are electric" and this was one of the songs where it really held true. They just went into a frenzy. Though I personally felt it was ok others around me thought it was the best version they'd heard of it. I will say this the last two minutes of it were highly memorable and definitely soemthing I hope to relive on live video. Hint. Hint.

Not being a big fan of the new EP I was interested to hear how the new songs would sound. Breakers won me over slightly but not by much. Musically the song doesnt go anywhere. It has no big chorus, no big hook, it felt thin and forced. It's a good live song but it's not going anywhere for me. Julio sang in a real high pitch for the backing vocals before the song gave into a really impressive jam session. Then things got a little quiet and I was worried they might have lost the crowd. I was dead wrong. The Carousel started off with a really different into. It felt as if they were masking the song. Being an anthemic singalong the fans loved it, pointing fingers and singing along with the band. It was a good moment.

Be Here Now began with a kick ass bass solo that worked its way into their best jam of the night. The crowd really sang the chorus on this one and Dan even let them sing, "It's been a good life, I'll be sad to see it go." That was definitely something I wasn't expecting.

Dan finally opened his mouth and said hello and the band was just starting their seventh song. It was Into the Flood. I was most excited about this, as it is my most favorite song of theirs to date. It did not disappoint. Dan then confessed, "I'm all over the place tonight," and told a really awful dirty joke. They then played Ghosts of York. It was incredible. Seriously it was flawless.

The horn section from the band Stealing Jane came on as Dan sang an acoustic version of O Holy Night with the horns backing him. He dedicated the song to his family for making "Every Christmas better than the last." He said "I know that's lame." But I thought it was an honest moment and my hat's off to him. Nothing wrong with being earnest.

The pocket horn section remined on stage and provided backing on Stah City and Maybe I'm Just Tired, which really needed to be seen to be realized. Julio also shared vocal duties on this one. As for the horns, I can't describe it I just know that if you can find a YouTube clip or a MP3 of it, just check it out. It's a facet of their live set I hope gets repeated again some time but I doubt ever will. That was what made the night worth it.

They walked off stage and came back a few minutes later to treat us to an encore. They introduced the song as 505. Much like the show the Gramercy show this past summer, Julio played guitar and was at vocals, Dan was on bass, Saen was on drums, Cliff was on keys and Rob on guitar. That was totally worth it. It was alright, but I prefer the song recorded. It's only worth watching to see the band play instruments different than their usual ones.

Love Love Love was next and it like always did little to impress me. They closed with Break Blossom which was great.

After demanding they come back for another encore, Dan asked, "What do you want to hear?" Of course fans shouted everything. He then confessed, "God I was hoping you would all say Acrobat." Which the band then played before the house lights went on.

I am certain that somebody out there reading this was at the show, so I'd love to hear feedback.

I just got back from seeing the Lions for my second time in Portland, Maine and figured I'd introduce myself to the community by throwing up a (brief) review/set list. Rob was having some trouble getting his keys to work properly so the set was cut a bit short, which was disappointing to say the least. Anyway, they played:

A Soft Hum
Song for Luna
96 Heartbeats
Stab City
Into the Flood
Maybe I'm Just Tired

They played flawlessly (aside from when Dan forgot the words to MIJT and forced a re-do) and seemed to impress a lot of people, judging by the crowd at their merch table after the show.

Also, I was wondering if anyone had the Sundaze songs that they could send me; I've been searching for those forever.
