Candle Store Name

I am starting a small candle-making business wherein I will also make lotions, bath salts, etc.  I am considering Illumination as the name--Illuminations (http://www.illuminations.com/) just went out of business in January.  Should I avoid the name of such a well-known candle retailer?  I am also considering Candleabracadabra but I don't know...

What do you think for a candle store name--- Candleabracadabra or Illumination --or is it back to the drawing board?  Any suggestions are welcome!  Thanks!</style>

Small edit:  I will have a large focus on catering to the pagan community for their candle needs-esp. offering candles for ritual, etc. so that is why abracadabra seemed like a good fit..

LEEROY JENKINS!
Serenity by Jan.

No, I'm sorry, that's not a serious suggestion :)

I like Illuminations better than the other but if it were me, I wouldn't use a name of a business that failed. Have you tried to incorporate something about you or where you're located? Like Chantilly Candle (Chantilly is a city in Virginia). I kind of like Candle with Care but that may be a little too silly..

Who needs a Snuggie when hands are meant to go inside of your pants while watching tv anyway?
I like Illumination much better than the other one.

How many Saskatchewan Roughriders does it take to screw in a light bulb? One more than they need :(
ditto. Much, much better. Candelabracadabra sounds witty for a moment, but there's something about it that really rubs me the wrong way. Maybe because I pronounce the "abra" in "candelabra" and "abracadabra" differently, so I'd never know how to say it :-P

I thought the same thing. It's cute at first, but I would personally probably have a hard time taking a shop serious with that name. It just doesn't really fit the description of what I think of when I think of candles, bath salts, etc.

Thanks for your input--certainly want the name to draw in people not repel them!

It wouldn't repel me, especially because I know who the person behind them is. But I just wouldn't take it as seriously as I would a different shop with a more mature name if I had the choice and no knowledge of the person behind it, if that makes sense. I think for me it just has something to do with what you're trying to sell. I associate what you're selling on more of the grown up side, and I associate your other name with kids.

Good luck! I'm sure whatever you decide on will be great. :)

Just because something went out of business doesn't mean somebody still hasn't retained a trademark. Avoid the hassles and go with something original.

The glitter on the snow, the place to always go. Do what you will, do what you will.
I love the name of Illumination, but as others have suggested, I don't think you should name your company after that, both because the business failed and because there could be legal issues.

I typed "illumination" into my trusty thesaurus widget on my Mac and came up with these interesting words:

- Radiance
- Glow
- Shine
- Luminescence
- Enlightenment (doesn't mean the same as light, but can still work)
- Luster

Ooo I really like Enlightenment! But I don't know if it might turn people off as being too... snooty maybe? Like, do I need your candles to be enlightened?

Hmm, but that could work

But WHY is the rum gone? Oh, right. Because the bottle isn't bottomless. :(
I REALLY like Candleabracadabra - liked it way before I read your edit, too.

wondering if it's too late to get on the "nice" list...
How about something like, "Enlightenings" or something similar.

does not exist. Look away! Look away!
You could incorporate "illumination" into a longer name that would make it less similar to "illuminations". You don't have to limit yourself to one word.

My mother is in love with a British talk show host with a speech impediment.
Illumination's good. The first name is a mouthful. Too hard to read and remember.

"Scintillation" is what first came to mind for me.

Even the pale sky-stars knew enough to keep well away from LA.
Candleabracadabra is very awkward, and more importantly, no one will remember how exactly to spell it, which means they're not finding your website.

I vote for Scintillation; that's an excellent suggestion.

is in dire need of pinky strengthening!
Candleabracadabra is mouthy and too long, but I did like the way it sounds. What if it was Candleabra Cadabra? with the space there? Less icked.

I also liked "Glow" from one of the earlier suggestions, especially if it had a good logo.

I would avoid using Illuminations, only because it may still be in trademark.

I would use a name, perhaps a catchy sounding one with Glow.

_______'s Glow

like

Lumley's Glow
Lumley's Grove

Or name it after a Grove or Creek. It just has to be easy to remember and catchy.

The highest form of Human Excellence is to question oneself and others.
I would avoid Illumination, but Candleabracadabra is way too long. Marketing will be a pain, and people will not remember the name.

My suggestion would be "Luminous". It invokes light, of course, but also a state of being.

I don't think using a failed businesses name is a smart marketing move. Candleabracadabra is way too much of a mouthful. First I read it as candlecadabra. Simple one or two word names seem to be big right now. I'd just do something like Glow, Kindle, Flame, Radiance, etc.
