This community is peopled by autistics who have joined for the explicit purpose of helping you understand our kind, in the hope that such understanding will make relationships between neurotypicals and autistics more pleasant from both sides.

Sadly, we recognize that an explanation of protocols and policy is necessary. As we say, this community is peopled by autistics, and that has its implications. First, if you come across as regarding the Aspie in your life as a horrible person because of his autistic manner of interacting, it will antagonize us. Most of us will remember why we're here and keep a lid on, but a few of us may react; and in any case, your questions will be better received if you don't display anger or hostility. Second, as you've probably observed on your own, autistics aren't real good at diplomacy: we're direct to the point of being blunt. If we're direct and blunt with you, please don't take it personally. It doesn't reflect hostility; all it reflects is autism. We're like that with everyone, including each other.
This community is closely watched by its moderators, who, among them, have accumulated a tremendous amount of experience moderating other communities. The moderators are uncommonly tolerant of both ignorance and idiosyncrasy, but highly intolerant of bad behavior, whether on the part of neurotypicals or autistics. If you troll, if you post questions or answers that are parodies of what a neurotypical might ask or of what an autistic might answer (and yes, the moderators can tell the difference, even though they're autistic), if you edit your posts in such a way as to distort the record (especially after they've gathered comments), if you delete the comments that others make to your posts, if you indulge in ad hominem attacks or flaming, or if you engage in any other behavior that subverts the peace, good order, spirit or intent of the community, you will very likely be banned. The moderators will use their best judgment rather than a book of rules in deciding how to deal with trouble.
