how much do you guys spend on music each week?
for me, easily $50 every week on average. i want to know if my splurging habits are becoming a concern.

Since Tower Records has been having going-out-of-business sales, I think I've spent around $300-400 in the past 2 weeks! But normally, I'd say I spend $100-200 a month, so about the same as you.

Do you ever sell stuff that you don't listen to? The advice I heard is that if it's a common CD that you can find easily in the future then sell it, if it's kind of rare or hard to find, then hang on to it. I tend to go for weird stuff, though, so I have a BUNCH of CDs...

i've definitely been taking advantage of the tower records sale too. mostly in the anime dvds section. i'm planning to strike there again near christmas.
generally, i TRY not to get rid of any records/cds even if i don't listen to them anymore. it's just kinda fun to look back and reminisce on bands you used to like. what kind of weird stuff do you go for?

I was surprised how much stuff was available for so long at Tower - I guess I expected them to get cleaned out quicker? But each time I go in there's less and less and they keep moving out empty shelves into the back of the store. Kind of depressing, but I hate Tower (the Starbucks of record stores?) so it's a good feeling too...

Weird stuff I like: free jazz, 20th century classical and electronic, obscure progressive rock (especially in Japanese paper sleeve releases!), noise (Merzbow mainly, though not all the time certainly), some metal and heavier stuff (like Sun O))), Opeth, Electric Wizard - more the doom end of things I guess).

And yourself?

tower still has alot of stuff, but thier sale is still going up so i'm sure there are people waiting for the right time to clean them out. but yeah, as a customer i never really cared for them either. i usually shop more at indie record stores or online.
i like alot of fast/aggressive music which includes a ridiculous pool of subgenres, but i won't get into it. other than that i also enjoy some instrumental/experimental (red sparowes/grails/kayo dot), indie rock/pop (karate/mates of state), and lately i've been getting into some japanese hardcore (the stalin, gauze, jellyroll rocketheads, mind of asian). theres so much music out there!
