World's End

This world might be coming to an end by 2012. Its survival depends on us. We have to do a tapas. Tapas consists of eliminating all death of hunger among humans, starvation among young and otherwise disadvataged humans and death of hunger among cats and dogs, including homeless ones. This tapas has to be successful within certain number of months from now.

I want everyone who worships any Hindu God to donate once off $150 to a World Hunger cause through any ethical charity or website, and also $150 on behalf of every minor child and every unemployed person. If you live outside of USA, donate 150 of your local currency. I want everyone to donate at least $40 to World Hunger every 3 months.

Make this first priority and tell your family about it.

Blessings,
Shree Maya Ishvari

Greetings

For those of you who might be interested in grabbing these off me, I'd be quite grateful.
I'm selling these due to low financial reasons and am trying to gather some funds. Perhaps these can be of some use to one or two of you in here.

Sells are on a first come first serve basis.

Both items are brand new. If you want both, I will give the Nicki Doane video for only $10 instead of $14.

Shipping in the US is $3 extra for each item. I also ship worldwide. Contact me for rates.

The Ashtanga Yoga DVD Collection (2005) $40

Yoga with Richard Freeman: The Ashtanga Yoga Collection (3 DVDs)
Encoding: All regions

This boxed DVD set includes:
Introduction to Ashtanga
The Primary Series
The Intermediate Series

Through the brilliant method of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, the body, the breath, and the mind are gradually trained to become the ground of real awakening and joyous freedom. The pace of this 67-minute practice is slow, calming, and physically challenging. Remarkably fluid and flexible instructor Nicki Doane explains clearly and in detail how to do each pose and integrate the breathing. Although called a "beginners practice," true beginners will find it challenging, and no modifications are demonstrated for the less flexible, although of course you are instructed to stay at your own level. Recommended as your second stage after mastering Yoga Journal's Ashtanga Yoga introductory series. The Hawaiian setting of this beautifully produced video is gorgeous and serene. --Joan Price

Thank You Very Much....

Advanced sitting postures help

I currently am living in a very remote area and have been practicing Mysore Ashtanga several times a week. But I am not a very advanced practitioner and cannot do all of the asanas from the primary series, especially the sitting postures. Since I do not have access to an ashtanga yoga teacher, I am seeking out guidance from this community on how to work my way to those particular asanas:

1. Marichyasana A-D (Posture of the Sage)
2. Navasana (Boat Posture)
3. Bhujapidasana (Shoulder Press)
4. Kurmasana (Tortoise)
5. Supta Kurmasana (Sleeping Tortoise)
6. Garbha Pindasana (Fetus in the Womb)
7. Kukkutasana (Rooster)

And it goes on. You get the idea. I've been taking ashtanga yoga classes for almost a year but am nowhere as advanced and experienced. I am rather muscularly soft and elastic in joints but have shorter arms and legs, unless they haven't achieved enough elasticity. I don't want to attempt those asanas in vain and then give up when tension sets in. How can I make a better effort at a less painful expense?

Namaste!

(cross-posted at yoga)

If so, can you give me the specifics...like when do I inhale and when do I exhale and etc.?

Yoga and Bad Feet

I have bad feet - bone spurs, plantar fascitis, the works. I've noticed recently that during yoga (and other exercise as well), my feet get really sore after standing for a period of 20 minutes or so. It's an all-over pain on the bottoms of my feet and it's gotten so bad that I have to sit down in the middle of my yoga class and rest my feet for a few minutes.

Any tips or advice to help alleviate this pain? I was really wondering if there exists a "specialty" shoe to be worn during yoga that might help my situation. I did several variations of Yahoo! searches and didn't come up with more than a plie type stretch.

Thanks in advance!

x-posted

new stuff?

Hello
So I'm just actually thinking about trying some new types of yoga. I guess I'm getting bored with what I've been practicing for the past few years.. I'd love to switch it up a bit.
What other kinds of yoga have you tried? What did you like or dislike about it? I'd absolutely love to hear about your experience. Also, how does one go about finding a new place to practice yoga? Right now I practice at an all-womens gym and I'm quite comfortable there.. however, they do not offer anything out of the ordinary. I'm a bit uneasy just walking in somewhere new and taking a class.. if I'm doing intense stuff I really want a knowledgeable instructor.
     Thank you!

Anatomy Resource for Yoga

http://www.anatomyandasana.com/

I just discovered (was introduced to) this text this weekend, and it is really good. The website has some samples, etc. on it so you can see what the contents are like. I highly recommend it, and the free e-zine on anatomy and yoga.

Developing a yoga practice

Hello all!
I am new here and stumbled across this group while trying to find the answer to a specific question about yoga.
I had been taking a Hatha Yoga class for about a year and a half, it was once a week and lasted for 2 hours including the 25 minute yogic sleep at the end. It was wonderful I loved it so much and I loved my yoga teacher who had been practicing and teaching herself for 30 years.
Anyway my teacher moved away and they could not find anyone else to take the class so I no longer have class to go to!
I did try yoga classes at my local gym but they were nothing like the proper class I had done before The Gym yoga classes were made simple and short (45 mins)to suit the gym.
So I am now trying to find a way to practice on my own at home. And I have bought some books and video's but I don't know how to put I routine together I would like to practice every morning for about 30 mins and for a period of 1 or 2 hours a few times a weeks when possible.
All my attempts feel very unstructured and don't know what combinations of postures to use or when to counter a twist or a back bend. I am beginning to feel like I am losing touch with yoga rapidly and it is very disheartening as I was just beginning to really get to grips with it and see what it was capable to doing when the class was stopped.

Any advice on how to proceed or books to recommended will be gratefully received!

Thank you,
Tereza.

P.S. I also did an Ashtanga class for a short time while at college so I have some knowledge of that practice also but not much.

a straight back?

while back a poster had replied that a little belly fat wouldn't be a problem in a forward bend since you are folding at the waist and not bending the back. My questions is that I also thought of the forward bend as a way to stretch out the back and neck, and not just the back of the legs.
so My questions is why does keep a straight back stretch out the back and neck (which it certainly feels like it is doing) and not cause the opposite since when I try to keep a straight back, it feels like im actually bending the back a little backwards (ie opposing the natural pull of gravity to bend the spine)

In other words, my forwards bend are not very advanced ie, i can get no where near the point I see in pictures where someone literally looks like a bent hairpin, ie their torso parallel to their legs.

Anyway, I hope some might shares some thoughts on this.

thanks for reading

Hello!

In the next few months I will be taking classes from Sri K. Pattabhi Jois & Saraswati as well as Chuck Miller& Maty Ezraty, and was wondering if any of you had experiences studying with them. With Guruji, it's a lead primary series class, and with the rest it's mysore style.

Any comments are appreciated!
