This community is for artists of all skill levels! In fact, we're hoping to help artists improve through this community! So you don't need to be an expert or a professional to participate!
Tentative General Rules:
We will attempt to keep this community as simple as possible. Rules might need to be changed as we work stuff out).
1. Please only post 'Theme' or 'Challenge' related material.
2. You can create as many Theme or Challenge related pics as you'd like. Though please keep the posts down to one a day.
3. Please keep large images behind a LJ cut. You can do this by typing <lj-cut text="This is a LJ Cut"> at the start of the cut location. Images that are less than 300px wide (like a thumbnail) are acceptable.
4. Please try to keep images Safe for Work. Please do not post 'adult' images or anything that would constitute porn. Tasteful nudity is fine if you keep it behind a cut. Please don't make 'naught bits' the /focus/ of the images, however.
The Current Challenge!
Starting June 1st 2009, participants will be asked to draw a (ONE) character everyday until November 30th 2009. This will be six months of character practice. You can draw a long established character, or you can make one up for this challenge.
This does not mean you can alternate between different characters. You may draw variations on the character you choose, but it must remain recognizably your character. The point is to see how 6 months of drawing the same character will help you improve! Defeats the purpose if you aren't drawing the same character.
To start: Simply introduce yourself, a little about what you like to draw, etc etc. Also please post the character or entity you intend to draw for the challenge. Tell us a little about them.
Challenge Rules:
1. If you miss a day or so, no big deal. We're all busy. We understand. It's also part of the challenge just to see how well you can keep up. Kudos to anyone that manages to meet and beat the challenge!
2. You can post once a day, once every couple of days, or once a week. It doesn't really matter what the frequency is, just try to keep it regular. Posting once a week might be helpful for people who don't have the free time to draw, scan, and post every day.
3. We're only looking for general sketches here. So doodle all you want. You can post finished works if you'd like, but you're not required to. Remember this is a test to see how you improve over time, so sketches and drawings might be better than paintings and such! (Unless of course, speedpainting is something you'd like to work on)
4. Find this community after June 1st, 2009? Don't worry. Just post your intro and your character and get going!

Q: What is this?
A: This is an art challenge for artists to help them better their skills at consistency and skill by focusing on the drawing of a single character once a day for a span of six months.
Q: How do I join?
A: You have to send your 'vital info' to
shadowsmyst so she can include you in the participants list.Q: Do I have to post a drawing *every* day? What if I do more than one?
A: We understand that you might not be able to post every day, but we want you to at least try. If you do more than one, that's great! But when you post them, please make sure they all go into one post at the end of the day, don't post them as you go, and please put them behind an LJ cut.

Q: What if I want to do more than one character?
A: Well you are certainly free to do more than one on your own, but we want you, as part of the challenge to commit to a single character, at least for inclusion in this journal.
Q: Can you choose a fan art character rather than an original character?
A: Yes; however, there are stipulations. The first one is that it cannot be a trace. If we find you are tracing or closely copying screencaps or magazine pictures, or even another artists work, we will kick you out. There are anime fans here, and fans of other things, chances are if you are copying, we will know, and we have zero tollerance for copying/art theft. The second thing is that you must properly credit the original character creator on every drawing. so character(c)whoweverownsit
Q:Can I draw a real person instead of a fictional character?
A:Yes, you can. The same rules apply as fan fic/fan art characters. It has to be referenced but not traced, and it has to always be the same person.
Q:Can I post other character/enviroment/random sketches here?
A:NO, this journal is only for sketches/drawings related to the current challenge! Please try to respect that and stay on topic.
Q:Are we supposed to critque sketches/drawings posted here?
A:Not unless someone specifically asks for it. This is more of a learning thing so a lot of the doodles might be sketchy and incomplete, which isn't fair to critique like a finished work. What we need more of is encouragement kind of commentary, positive to help the artist keep going.
Q:Can I post nudes of my character?
A:Only if it is *tasteful* nudity. That is to say that it is not 'erotic' in any way. ( No massive jubblies or boners just hanging out there, mmk?) There are a lot of young members of this community (highschoolers) so keep that in mind. When in doubt, drape the figure. Besides, its good cloth practice. Also make sure that all such images are LJ-cut with "NSFW (not safe for work)" or "warning - nudity" text.
Q:It's after the beginning of the last challenge! Can I still join?
A:Yes, you can, just make sure you send your vital info to ShadowsMyst so she can add you to the participants list. And then get cracking, you have a lot of time to make up.
Q:Is there a prize for this art challenge?
A:No, its just a fun challenge for artists to test themselves against. The only prize you get is improvement through practice of your l33t artistic skillz.
Q: What tags should we use/do we have to us?
A: We highly recomment you post your username, your character name, or some unique tag so you can find your posts easier down the road.
Q: What about other characters, can we draw them in the pic too?
A: All we require is that you draw the same character everyday. If you want to put them in different situations, with other people, with a full on background, that's /totally/ up to you.
