This was so much fun when it was active a few years ago -- I guess everyone is too busy now, or else they've gone elsewhere. sob sob.

Think I'm gonna aim at the ol' 10,000 square inch stand-by!
I've never aimed over 5,000 inches in past years, but why not? The ATCs I'm working on today won't add up much, but I'll have to get some crochet projects going/finished. :) I do want to work on some tiny stuff too, though, like inchies.
By the way, I noticed there's an old art by the inch flickr group. It's about as dead as this community and I'm not the admin, but it appears to be public so I'm sure we could use it. Think I'll post my pics there!

Mostly a test post, to be sure I'm not missing any posts in this community.
I vow at least 3000 inches this coming month. Might even revise that upward if I make good progress.

Looks like the community's pretty dormant, but thought it couldn't hurt to ask:
Anyone planning some by-the-inch fun for next month?

12:47 pm - New Work- Acrylic on Plexiglas
|

linda_erzinger

I just started working on recycled plexiglas. The finished piece is mounted to a 1" board so that the clear frame shows through to the wall. The glass is 1/4" thick and I have painted on the back as well, so the colors shift as you move past the piece. Look at the detail shots to see this in action.
"The Evening Tide Appeals To The Tormented Sun" image size 8 1/2" X 10".

This acrylic painting on plexiglas is full of nudity....so it is behind a cut. It measures 11" x 13", but the center circle is 8". Comments are welcome.

t his community is for those gals and guys who LOVE to swap via snail-mail. Each week or so, I will post a themed swap, with instructions, and those members who are interested can participate. You don't have to participate in every swap, but please participate sometimes. Examples: postcard swap, FB swap, craft swap, used stamps swap, deco swap, birthday swap, etc. Details of each swap, deadlines, etc. will be posted at the time.

Oooops! I mistakenly made the Artober Fest journal a personal journal rather than a community journal. Please check out the community here: Artober Fest 2006. Come on over and join this fun art creating challenge!

Hello, art-by-the-inchers! Since this group hasn't had much activity, I've started my own art challenge for the month of October. Head on over to Artober Fest and check it out. I hope there will be lots of people who'll join the challenge!
Artsy hugs,

Hello all, I haven't done Art By The Inch yet, but would like to try it this year.
For those of you who've done it, how do you feel about the focus on generating inches? How would it feel different to work instead towards a set number of "works," perhaps one small thing each day? Focusing on inches gives more flexibility of scale, but it's a little less "portioned," meaning, you don't necessarily generate something regularly over the entire period. Do you find that doesn't pose a problem, that knowing you need to complete the inches is plenty inspiration to keep you going? I'm just thinking about what kind of structure would be the most inspiring to work in, and there are so many different ways to do this.
What if there was a community for generating an Artist Trading Card each day? Or a hand-designed postcard each day, perhaps mailed (by mail, or electronically) to a central location each day to be logged and put in a gallery? Would those be of interest?
The Art By The Inch website seems to be out of date, and I've gotten no reply trying to email the person who runs it. Would another web site be helpful - something to which you could freely upload into the gallery, and view works by day or by person? Or is the livejournal community plenty enough structure for the purpose?
I'm just interested in the concept and all the things that could be done in this area. Thanks for sharing any ideas or input!

I know art by the inch is months from now, but I am already getting excited and preparing ideas and canvases.
I am doing all the geometry to figure out how many canvases equals 5000-10000 inches.
