About
Hello to the Art Nouveau Nuts community!

This community was the first ever Art Nouveau community on Lj because there needed to be a place where lovers of this fine art movement could gather and discuss things. We have grown over the years and will continue to do so as more and more people fall in love with and study the art movement. We welcome posts, rantings, adorations, and pictures of all sorts as to give this community diversity on such a rarely known subject. This community is a celebratory website dedicated solely to this wondrous artistic time period that produced the Art Nouveau.

What is Art Nouveau?

It is a particular style of art that existed between 1896 to 1914. It is not well known about because of its relatively short time period of existence. When the first World War came it ended the period of ornamental and lavish art pieces and transformed slowly into Art Deco in the 1920's. The art that was produced during this period was full of symbolism and natural elements. The inspiration for Art Nouveau designs spanned from around the world as the AN movement pulled styles and techniques from the Orient, Middle East, and various European countries. The times were changing (as new parts of the world were being linked together by traveling) and in a brief moment an art movement emerged which used rich elegance and decorative pieces to create a "New Art".

Although the impression was worldwide we credit the beginning of Art Nouveau in France. In different countries it had different names such as "Stile Liberty" (Italy), "Jugendstil" (Germany), and "Modernismo" (Spain). Swirls of lush vivid colors and elaborate flowers and imaginative themes were instilled in Paintings, Architecture, Glassworks, and Publications. Newfound elegance, beauty, and dreamlike themes were applied to pieces of art. Everything was so exquisite, so new, and delicately lavish in itself that we like to call Art Nouveau a period in time which art acquired a peak in greatness.

Quite a few people here can be defined as lovers of nature, beauty, classicism, and art. So why not bring them together? Feel free to post questions as there are many people who are very informed on the subject and will help you out/share information. Many members have knowledge (some, extensive) on the subject and can lead you to know more about this exquisite art movement
