About:Welcome to Ars Scribendi.

In Latin, this translates as "the art of writing." I have created this community in the hopes of promoting fine examples of prose that can be enjoyed by other LiveJournal readers.

Currently, Ars Scribendi is open-membership. However, posts are moderated before they are promoted. Initially moderators that can do this will be chosen by me, but I hope that this exclusivity won't last long.

I plan on creating and developing guidelines to define what is "good writing," but at this moment I believe I will leave it fairly unrestricted, with a few exceptions:
  • For now, avoid poetry and poetic pentameter
  • Check your spelling unless you are employing colloquial dialogue
  • Choose interesting things to write about
  • Don't trash other LJ users by name in your writing
  • Try to keep your entries longer than a sentence and shorter than 8 paragraphs, if possible
Remember, eventually I hope this community attains a wide readership. Write as if you wish to engage and entertain.
