AboutPURPOSE: To bring together people who possess non-professional scientific and technical curiosity and interest, otherwise known as Armchair Scientists. These people can usually be identified by factors such as, but not exclusive to:
a) voluntarily watching the Discovery Channel on weekends;
b) having a collection/collections of things such as rocks, fossils, Egyptian relics, insects, etc;
c) braving bitter cold nights outdoors because "the stars look nicer"; and/or,
d) making eerily accurate weather predictions.
DISCLAIMER: Yes, we know we may be too quick to accept preliminary evidence as fact, but we can't help it; we just love science so much. We're not scientific academics; we just enjoy learning.
APPROPRIATE POSTING: Random musings on how much you love science/technology/nature are acceptable, and posts about new and interesting scientific discoveries/inventions/medical breakthroughs/science books are highly encouraged. Scientific debate is fundamental to learning, but let's not degenerate into flame-wars about the origins of the universe and such. Whether we like it or not, none of us were there, so keep it nice; we're all still newbies at this "existing" thing. Argue smartly!
