Two labs looking for loving homes, please cross post
Hi everyone! I received this today. Please crosspost or forward to anyone who is able and wants to give a couple of dogs a nice home. A co-worker of John's is looking to finding a loving home for her two labs. Unfortunately, the woman is unable to bring the dogs to her new home and is having a difficult time placing the two dogs together. As usual, I'm hoping we can forward this email (with the pups details and cute pics!) to our animal loving friends and they may know someone who would like to bring some doggie love into their home. Please feel free to forward my email or cell number to anyone who is interested. Thanks for your help! Jenn 647-885-3271 | 5:55 pm [veganhothead]

Peter Singer speaks at U of T!
*** NEWS RELEASE *** Peter Singer speaks at U of T! ARK II - The Animal Rights Kollective, University of Toronto Students Against Climate Change and Zoocheck Canada are hosting an evening with renowned philosopher, Peter Singer. This is a free event. In his new book "The Life You Can Save, Acting Now to End World Poverty" Singer makes the irrefutable argument that giving will make a huge difference in the lives of others, without diminishing the quality of our own. This book is an urgent call to action and a hopeful primer on the power of compassion, when mixed with rigorous investigation and careful reasoning, to lift others out of despair. Singer received worldwide recognition for his book “Animal Liberation” and his usage of the term speciesism which is used for discrimination on the grounds that a being belongs to a certain species. He holds that the interests of all beings capable of suffering be worthy of equal consideration, and that giving lesser consideration to any being based on its having wings or fur is no more justified than discrimination based on skin color. He was named one of the "100 Most Influential People in the World” by Time magazine. Anyone who is interested in the discussion surrounding the use of animals in scientific research will want to be a part of this event. We are inviting both animal activists and supporters of animal experimentation to join us. Benefit concert and Auction for the Horses of the RR Horse Refuge COME ONE, COME ALL TO AN AMAZING NIGHT OF MUSIC AND FUN TO RAISE FUNDS FOR REFUGE RR FOR HORSES IN ALEXANDRIA, ONTARIO!!!! Refuge RR for horses in Alexandria, Ontario is in urgent need of our help! Their well ran dry at the end of the summer leaving them with no water for the 165 animals (33 horses, and various cows, sheep, goats, chickens, geese, ducks, peacocks, pigeons, rabbits, dogs and cats) who live at their rescue and forcing them to make a daily trek with 500 gallon containers to a neighbouring farm to replenish their water supplies. After some heavy rains and snow they were able to finally get some water out of their original well but, they've been warned by the well drillers that it's only surface water (and dirty, at that) that's filling it and that they will need to drill a new one...our goal is to raise funds to help dig this well to provide a consistent source of water to help keep these animals alive! We've got four artists/bands that will be performing that evening with the possibility of other musical performers PLUS a comedian! There'll also be some great prizes to win as well so bring some spending money to help out even more and possibly take home some goodies.... Kitten in need of home, and she's a CUTE one!
We have, visiting our household, a tiny grey female tabby kitten. Our little girl is seven weeks old and already litter trained. She is very cute, playful and well behaved. Also, kitty is flea-free and takes baths like a champ! She was rescued from a house with 40 other cats who were not receiving enough food or love. She doesn't have any shots yet. If you (or someone you know and trust)have the time, the means and most importantly, the love this sweet girl needs, reply here and I will get in touch with you. Thanks~ | | Saturday, August 16th, 2008 | 5:03 pm [veganhothead]

Boycott P&G
Dear Activist, Please join us for the 12th GLOBAL DAY OF ACTION: BOYCOTT P&G Date: Saturday, May 17, 2008 Time: 12:00pm - 1:00pm Location: Procter & Gamble Street: 4711 Yonge Street (south of Shepherd) City/Town: Toronto, ON RSVP on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=13162713068This year marks, the 12th anniversary of Boycott P&G Day. We need your help as we strive to increase the pressure on P&G to change their cruel animal testing practices. The 11th anniversary of the Day of Action in 2007 saw over 140 Boycott P&G actions taking place all around the world. In Canada alone, P&G's consumer products sales are over $2.9 billion. Millions of people use P&G products everyday unaware that the company still conducts lethal animal tests to develop new cosmetic & household products and chemical ingredients. Yet polls reveal most consumers would switch to a cruelty-free company if only they had the necessary information. Everyone has a vital role to play in informing consumers about P&G's animal testing, and the hundreds of cruelty-free alternatives available. Why Boycott P&G? P&G spends millions of dollars to package itself as a responsible, caring company, and claims to be a leader in the development of alternatives to the use of animals in product testing. The truth is that P&G could stop animal testing today without hindering anyone's safety. We urge everyone to boycott of P&G until the company abandons all unnecessary animal tests, including those carried out by Iams/Eukanuba. Other P&G BRANDS that are TESTED ON ANIMALS include Cover Girl, Max Factor, Noxzema, Ohm, Olay, Camay, Ivory, Safeguard, Zest, Secret, Sure, Luvs, Pampers, Always, Pantene, Pringles, Folgers, Milstone Coffee, Sunny Delight, Torengos, Giorgio of Beverly Hills, Helmut Lang, Herve Leger, Hugo Boss, Old Spice, Bounty, Charmin, Puffs, Downy, Actonel, Duracell, Olay, Head & Shoulders, Wella, A Touch of Sun, Aussie, Balsam Color, Clairol, Head & Shoulders, Herbal Essences, Hydrience, Infusium 23, Lasting Color, Loving Care, Men's Choice, Natural Instincts, Nice 'n Easy, Pantene, Pert Plus, Physique, Ultress, Vidal Sassoon, Bounce, Cascade, Cheer, Comet, Dawn, Downy, Dreft, Dryel, Era, Febreze, Gain, Ivory, Ivory Snow, Joy, Mr. Clean, Swiffer, Tide, Gillette, Braun, DayQuil, Metamucil, NyQuil, Pepto-Bismol, PUR water filtration system, Sinex, Thermacare, Vicks, Crest, Fixodent, Gleem, Oral-B, Scope and Whitestrips. We urge everyone to boycott P&G. Until it stops its animal cruelty, the letters P&G will stand for nothing but Pain & Greed! Bill S-203 Rally tomorrow!
Seven Cities Join in National Day of Action Against Animal Cruelty! On Sunday March 30th Canadians will rally in cities across the country to protest Bill S-203, a bogus animal cruelty bill that's poised to pass in Parliament in April/May, when it comes up for a third and ï¬nal reading in the House of Commons. Pan-Canadian rallies are confirmed in Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver, Calgary, Windsor and Yellowknife. *** NEW *** Toronto location secured! Canadians for Effective Animal Cruelty Legislation: Vote NO to Bill S-203 Date: Sunday, March 30th, 2008 Time: 1:30PM to 3:00PM Location: At Queen's Park, just South of the Ontario Parliament Building Click here to view a map, or to obtain directions http://maps.google.ca/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=111684788263020275678.000449287786672d00d87&ll=43.660949,-79.390233&spn=0.007001,0.020084&z=16Confirmed Speakers: MP Mark Holland (Liberal) MP Peggy Nash (NDP) Please join ARK II, Cause for Paws and Wild at Heart Canada and other animal lovers across the GTA at our rally and say "NO to Bill S-203!" – an INEFFECTIVE legislation which is opposed by nearly every animal welfare group and humane society in Canada! For more information about the campaign, please visit the Canadians for Effective Animal Cruelty Legislation website: www.againstanimalcruelty.ca Take action: Please forward this notice to friends, colleagues and family members. Please write letters to your MP's! To locate your local MP, please follow this link: http://www2.parl.gc.ca/Parlinfo/Compilations/HouseOfCommons/MemberByPostalCode.aspx?Menu=HOCYou can send a letter directly from the WSPA website at http://www.wspa.ca/crueltylaw/Here are some more points to raise about why Bill S-203 is inadequate: - Crimes of neglect are difficult to prosecute because it's virtually impossible to prove "wilful intent" - It is not an offence to breed, train and sell animals to fight each other, so long as the person is not caught present at the fight - There is no specific offence for brutally or viciously killing animals - Unowned animals (stray, wild, feral) have less protection than owned animals - Animal cruelty is still considered a property offence - Canada currently lags behind the Philippines and other developing countries when it comes to protecting animals from horrific acts of cruelty and Bill S-203 wouldn't change this shameful ranking We have waited more than 100 years for stronger animal cruelty legislation but Bill S-203 is not worth the wait! ---------------------------------------- -------------------------- Hosted by: Canadians for Effective Animal Cruelty Legislation www.againstanimalcruelty.ca Event Organizers: Kelly Gredner, info@wildatheartcanada.org Michelle Nadon, c4p@mediaintelligence.ca Helen Prancic info@ark-ii.com | | Thursday, March 20th, 2008 | 7:55 pm [veganhothead]

Action Alert: Animal Cruelty Bill S-203 letter writing campaign and upcoming rally announcement
Dear Activist, Animals in Canada need your help. Please send a letter to your MP now! Canadian Members of Parliament will soon debate Bill S-203. This weak and flawed animal cruelty legislation would increase penalties for the less than 1% of animal abusers who are convicted under Canada's Criminal Code but does nothing to improve the SPCA's ability to prosecute crimes against animals. Under this bill the majority of animal abusers will go unpunished. However, we have one final opportunity to stop Bill S-203! MPs need to understand that their constituents are demanding stronger and more effective legislation that truly protects animals from horrific acts of cruelty. Every humane society, SPCA and animal welfare group in the country opposes Bill S-203 because it retains the same loopholes and ambiguities that exist in our 1892 legislation. Join us and voice your concerns with Bill S-203 by sending a letter to your MP today. You can send a letter directly from the WSPA website at http://www.wspa.ca/crueltylaw/ARK II is currently organizing a Toronto rally with Wild at Heart Canada and Cause for Paws. Please mark your calendars. Other rallies are being organized in other cities including Montreal and Vancouver. Protest the Commercial Seal Hunt this Saturday!
Dear Activist! With March 15 fast approaching, activists throughout the world will be allying for the International Day of Protest Against the Canadian Commercial Seal Hunt. Canadian animal rights organizations ARK II and Wild at Heart Canada will team up to stage a mass slaughter of baby seals to protest the Canadian commercial seal hunt. 'East Coast sealers' will 'slaughter' imitation seals with various weaponry that is used to kill seals during the hunt. Crowds of activists will then march down Yonge Street to Dundas Square to further protest the hunt. DATE: SATURDAY, MARCH 15, 2008 TIME: 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM* LOCATION: YONGE ST. / BLOOR ST. WEST, TORONTO (North East corner) ORGANIZATIONS: ARK II – THE ANIMAL RIGHTS KOLLECTIVE, WILD AT HEART CANADA * we will march down to Yonge/Dundas from 4:30-5:00pm Since 2002, more than 1,600,000 harp seals have been clubbed and shot to death for their fur in Canada's commercial seal hunt. The large-scale Canadian seal hunt begins in March on the East Coast after mother seals have given birth to their pups. The Department of Fisheries and Oceans' own facts state that the majority of harp and hooded seals killed are between 12 days and 12 weeks old. The seals are slaughtered primarily for their fur as there is very little market for seal meat and seal oil. Although the majority of Canadians oppose this cruel and unnecessary hunt, it is promoted, protected and subsidized every year with their tax dollars. Got an excess of dog or cat toys/treats?
Dear Activist, A request has come through from a local community worker who is organizing donations of treats and toys to deliver to the animals at the Jamaica SPCA (www.jspca.info) during his trip this coming April. Animals in Jamaica have a very hard life and he would like to bring a small amount of joy into their lives. The SPCA in Jamaica would be ecstatic to receive all kinds of treats especially Kongs for the dogs. If you are able to donate such items, please contact Christopher Joneses by e-mail, jazminsdaddy@gmail.com or at 416-444-8159 to arrange a time to have your donation picked up.
