I'm getting rid of most of my t-shirts, since I so rarely wear them. I'm sad to relinquish my Arisia '09 volunteer shirt, but since I must, I would like it to go to an Arisian home. Anyone want it? It's a ladies' fitted tee in "babydoll" style, size L (fits maybe size 8-10?), powder blue with dark blue sleeves. Leave a comment if you're interested.
PLEASE NOTE: This offer is only open to people who worked enough hours at Arisia '09 to earn a shirt, and who either didn't get a shirt in their preferred size or would like a spare.
EDIT: Taken already!

I'm going to bike the Hub on Wheels event in the fall, as a member of the Arisia team. Proceeds for the event go to Technology Goes Home, which helps provide technology and skills training to Boston Public School kids.
Would anyone like to join me/us? :)

If you are interested in running games at Arisia 2010, and you already know what you want to run, then you can go ahead and sign up now.
The sign-up form is here
It is especially good to sign up now if you want to run a LARP, or an event that requires space other than just a table in the gaming room. That way, it increases the odds of you actually getting space for your event.

I'm running the staff den for Worldcon in Montreal, aka Anticipation this August.
londo and
crazybone are my trusty lieutenants. I know a few Arisians have casually offered to help out, as well. Now's a good time to remind me, because I'm working on menu planning and schedules and all sorts of things. This will be run very similarly to my staff den at Arisia a couple of years ago -- the numbers are similar for staff, but the weekend is longer. My (evolving) plan is available on the Anticipation hospitality wiki, if that's publicly viewable.
I'm going up to Montreal the weekend before the con, to get settled and set up and start cooking. I plan on doing some nice home-cooked Indian food for the dedicated staff who show up early, and make more-easily-mass-produced food that is still tasty and nutritious for later in the week.
( More details behind the cut... )
I want to keep this sane, and fun. I've never been to a Worldcon before, and I want to have fun along with everyone else. Hence, planning to only use volunteers for one meal a day, if we can keep to that. Step right up, folks, and volunteer!
liamstliam, among others, can vouch for it being fun to work with me! :)

Searching for the ziggurat
As the river bides its time
Trusting in the ferryman
As the dark of night unwinds
Suddenly in her neon light
Behold the form arise
To promise much
And shepherd home
These tired pilgrim eyes

As everyone makes their summer plans, I wish to remind you to consider attending Pi-Con! Pi-Con is a small but lively con that takes place yearly in the Pioneer Valley. This year we will be at the Wonderful Crowne Plaza Enfield-Springfield in Enfield, CT, right over the Massachusettes border on I-91.
This year will feature Author Guest of Honor Mary Doria Russell,
Webcomic Guest of Honor Jeffrey Rowland, and Guest of Awesome Genevieve Iseult Eldredge. We will also see the return of our video game room, many favorite panels and events, and the new addition of Filk programming!
Registration Rates for Pi-Con will go from $30 to $40 after Friday, June 12th. This was extended since room reservations were not open yet. Get your registrations in at the early rate!
Room reservations are *open* for Pi-Con! Room rate will be $109/night + tax. You'll need to call the Crowne Plaza to reserve, at (860) 741-2211. (Their online group rate widget is broken, I'm told.) Make sure to tell them you're with Pi-Con to get the rate!
For more information, to volunteer, sign up to vend, or otherwise contact us, check out our webpage at www.pi-con.org

Is anyone in the greater Boston area attending Parkerfest in New York? It's a 1920s themed jazz age party celebrating the legacy of iconic writer Dorothy Parker. (Yeah, yeah I know she's not sci-fi but still really effing good.) There will be music, food, vintage clothes and books dealers, plus milliners selling effing awesome hats and a vintage car show. You can learn more about it here: http://www.dreamlandorchestra.com/calen dar.php
If you are interested and especially if you have a car and want someone to chip in for gas money please let me know.

I have a friend with a hotel room at RELAXACON who will be unable to attend due to a family crisis. If you do not have a hotel room booked, please contact her at jkamalot at hotmail dot com. Jackie paid for her first night and would really appreciate having someone take that off her hands.
In other news, go to the RELAXACON website and check out what our meals will be this year (remember, all included in membership).
See you on Friday (or Saturday, or Sunday)

Excuse the newbie question but how do I remove a "friend" from Live Journal?
I was looking at the users info and it screams out spam.
I don't want my namje associated with this spammer in any way. (I'm apparently listed as
a friend under his/her/it's name but since it's a spammer I want my name removed from his/her/it's
listing too.
Anyone know how i do that?

My original plans for the last weekend in May have probably fallen apart (due to money or the lack thereof).
If I do attend Relaxacon, I would be driving by my home.
I do not remember if there is parking available for those not staying at the motel.
So, will there be visitor parking for Relaxacon "day" attendees?
Thanks.

Hi everyone, Today (May 15) is the last day for you to mail in your pre-registration for Relaxacon. You can still Paypal your membership for another 10 days (May 25). Save yourself $10 off the at-door price, and get ready for some Relaxacon Arisia fun. www.relaxacon.org
P.S. There is still room at the hotel (very limited).
P.S. 2. There is a fellow Arisia who lives within minutes of the hotel, who is offering tent crash-space in his yard. Contact relaxacon@arisia.org for more information.

Every year, I seem to miss that Arisian brainstorms. Aside from the actual storming brain sessions (which always seem to be scheduled at, for me, inconvenient times), is there wiki/message board/???? where I could post some things that I would like to see?
Hi all,
Thanks for being so patient with us while we go through some strange shenanigans with our web stuff. Anyway, the site is up, but we're still testing the online registration process, so you'll need to use the "print the PDF and mail it in" method for now.
Anyway, please take a look and let me know your feedback, etc. Remember though, I'm a human too, so please don't be rude. Criticism is welcome; nastiness is not.
jasra, this year's webmistress
ETA: Yes, the site is B&W. We're going to get art (hopefully!) from the Artist GoH and add that soon.
Also, we're working on getting rid of the redirect, but if it causes you trouble, you can click here instead.

Hi everyone.
surrealestate suggested a while back that I post here about this. I hope it's all right...
I'm in the process of clearing out a lot of stuff from my office space at home so I can make room for a small recording studio and I have a lot of stuff to get rid of. With the economy the way it is, I need to sell some of it in order to pay for some of the equipment I'll need. Therefore...
I have a collection of Doctor Who books, comprising about 300 novels, novelisations, comic books, specials, etc.; even some non-book items. I'm not in a position to deal with selling them on eBay, so I'm looking for an organization or, perhaps, a trusted vendor that might be interested in taking the lot off my hands for a reasonable price. Would anyone here have suggestions for me? I can supply a detailed list of the items upon request.
Thanks!
