God grins at her above his tie-dyed T-shirt, beach-bleached dreads flopping around his face. "Let's play hide-and-seek."
"Okay, can I point out that you being omniscient makes this game slightly unfair?"
"I'll hide. You'll seek. For three days." And he vanishes in the crowd.
For three days, Joan seeks. The eyes of strangers seem more interesting. They don't look like strangers anymore. Then she gets creative and seeks Him in other forms: in the pattern of raindrops on leaves, the sound of her mother's humming during breakfast.
When Dreads God reappears, Joan laughs. "I saw you EVERYWHERE."
