So, I took a break. It wasn't even to really regroup, but it was more of the fact that I had a business to launch and I just needed to put my ideas to rest and pick them up at a later date. Breeding Arabians is a natural passion of mine. It's been in my heart ever since I picked up my first AHW in the early 90's. Ironicly and possibly symbolicly, the first AHW I tooked at had Ali Jamaal on the cover. At the time I had no earthly idea who Ali Jamaal was and honestly, for years, I never knew it was him on the cover. (I think it was more of his sillouette... I think.)

Khemosabi stole my heart and I was smitten by Arabs ever since. Over the years my preferences have adjusted and I've slowly forged my own ideal Arabian (at least in my mind).

The Arabs that I'm the most moved by are my dearly beloved older blooded Crabbets, who epitomize the carousel horse look. They're a little more curvy than many other types of Arabs.

My Ideal:

Personally, I like a little roundness in the croup along the topline. I don't need a perfectly flat topline. I like a really well balanced neck, upright and a curved pole to die for. The kind of kink in the neck that almost looks like a round tube is connected from the withers to the ears. But that neck has to meet with the withers perfectly. I don't like skinny necks. I can't stand S necks, and I prefer the base to be on the wider side. I don't like overly sweated necks. At all.

I need a horse with a nice gate, with square legs. I like solid feet and strong hind quarters. I don't like feeling like my horse is going to crack like a really expensive but fragile vase or something.

I've narrowed my collection of favorite stallions down. But first, I must mention my ultimate favorite stallions.

The full brothers, Sa-Fadjur and Ibn Fadjur. Both sired by Fadjur and out of Saki. While these two weren't "perfect" per se (something I think is rediculous since perfection is an opinion for everyone), they capture everything I've ever wanted in an Arab.

Essentially, I'd really like to try for breeding horses with the amazing structure and carousel-esque build of these two stallions, however, I'd like to refine it a bit and add an extra touch of pretty and exotic. :o) And don't you worry, I already have like 5 generations of future Arabs that I plan to breed to achieve this.

My Arabian Report

Today I have gone around online to view some of today's breeding farms. I personally have a very distinguished breeding goal of my own. One aspect of that goal is taking the advice of breeders long ago and infusing certain unique and segregated strains with others. For example, I think there's something to be said for a cross between quality Crabbet lines mixed with Polish and Egyptian lines. I also think it can be a beautiful thing to mix all three together, in a unique weave like pattern.

Some of the best and longest standing horses in Arabian history are horses that were brilliantly crossed in these three strains.

I've actually found a colt that I am now completely in love with and will be watching like a hawk from now on. Lady's and gents, keep your eye's on this boy: http://www.btc-arabian.com/aspitfirebeyb.html

Now I have yet to see him live, but from the little I can see of him, he's very timeless and classic. He carries the sire-line of Huckleberry Bey, Bay El Bey and Bay Abi through one of the best Varian bred studs, Afire Bey V. This colt is also a fine breeding of Polish mixed with Crabbet lines toward the mare tail line.

As a result, we get a well balanced and very correct colt. His face is a little straight (not that this is a problem in the slightest) and quite frankly, it's NICE to see a over all correct colt that isn't just a pretty face!!

If I had the money to invest in this boy, I seriously would go see him and if he was that good in person or better, I'd buy him. (BTW he's priced at $60,000.00)

Now on to the subject of my pet peave. I am completely fed up with today's trend of Arabian breeders who do not know anything about what a truly quality Arabian is. I'm so tired of seeing these Egyptoids strutting around with no real substance to them. They're not impressive, they're not balanced, they're not even that pretty, but they've got all the popular lines and some how, that makes them worth $5000.00 to breed to.. I'm not sure how... seeing as they didn't get any of the features of their predecessors.

What is even more sad is I'm seeing a rise in download able videos of these Arabs from farms that look pretty cookie cutter and like they have way to much time and money on their hands (and no real understanding of quality). The videos are so incredibly disappointing because there are never any shots of the horse's full and complete body. I see close ups of the head, part of the neck, I see a trot (usually the horse is trotting directly toward the camera) and the most absurd is video of the horses PICTURES gliding across the screen............ ?????? (these are the same pictures that are on the web page.. and they're still the angle in which you can't see any real attribute of the horse.. it's like the head - at the most flattering angle - the neck and the brisket.. )

This is one of the biggest reasons I'm combing the country for the smaller farms that are not in the limelight.. because it seems to mean they are not the trendy bunch. They're sticking to their program no matter what is popular.

Okay, I think that's all I have right now for my vent-a-thon. :)

Okay, this is most definitely probably a long shot, but I thought it was worth looking into.

The nieghbors have two horses that have not been out of their corral for the past 11 years, at least. I cannot afford to feed more than the horse I have currently, but I know this has worked in the past, so I am going to make a short pitch and see if anyone is interested.
One of the horses is incredibly skinny. I thought about seeing if the owners were interested in selling it, getting it back to decent health (I know it won't be easy, but at least it will have a chance with me), and rehoming it for a small adoption fee. I am going to discreetly try to get pictures of the horses, but I don't want to be obvious.

I am just wondering if anyone is interested to donating to the horse feed fund. It will all go to this horse and I would keep you all updated constantly on the horse.

I realize that this is a long shot, but I was just wondering if anyone was interested in donating before I threw in the towel.

BTW, if anyone else is interested in rescueing these horses, they are located in south east Arizona. PLEASE contact me if you're interested. Either through here or my own LJ.

X posted lots of places

A few weeks back I had posted about my mare, Matteena, who is 3/4's egyptian. I posted that I'm puting her up for sale.

Recently the horses (Misty, Kaidrian and Matteena) all needed to be moved to my best friends property. Before hand they were on and off in different places. I havn't really had much of a chance to see or work with Matteena since I moved to Virginia. Anyway, over the course of time, Matteena has not been worked with as Wendy was raising Kaidrian and there have been no places to really work well with Matteena.

Now that all three horses are on Wendy's parent's property, she's been able to work with them but has discovered that Matteena has turned into an un-manageable monster. She behaves pretty badly, is hard to manage and can be dangerous as well. If she had proper training she would probably turn out fine. She is beautiful though, and would make a great broodmare. But Wendy isn't able to handle her on her own right now and is in need of Maddy getting off the property.

Does anyone here know of some ideas of how I could sell her? I'm at a point where I can't take much for her, to sell her fast. I'm pretty overwhelmed. :(

Thanks

Amy

So I'm not sure how many of you know my horse likes bushes. Yep big fluffy, green, twig ridden, growing in the ground bushes. Apparently they're an amazing hiding space. Well I thought I would share a photo from last summer where we found out the bush loving secret my filly holds.

I looked for this filly for I swear an hour. I thought maybe she got out of the pasture or someone kidnapped her. I looked EVERYWHERE. Finally I heard this tiny squeak of a whinny in this freaking bush. Suprise suprise there she is trying to blend in.

Anyway not too much to the story but I love the picture to death. So here it is. My silly little hopefully one day national champion :P hiding in a bush.

I'm selling a Crosby Prix Des Nations close contact saddle right now. I'm not sure of the seat size but I'd be glad to go out and measure it for anyone interested. It's in great shape and comes with a matching bridle, leathers and irons. I also have an english breastplate I can throw in with it but the color dosn't match as well. I love this saddle to peices and I hate to sell it.. but due to my pending divorce I would much rather lose the saddle than my horse. Thanks to my jerk ex I am in debt at the barn and am trying to sell things off to make it right again. I would LOVE 600 for it but I will accept any reasonable offer. I can also throw in a bit or two/and a pad to sweeten the deal. I have one picture of the saddle right now but I can get more apon request. Thanks so much!
