Hi

Hi,

I've been lurking for awhile but haven't seen any posts, so it's nice to meet you all!

I've ridden arabians for a lot of my life but they've always been school horses or crosses. I've never been a part of a show circuit. I've loved almost all the arabians I've ridden. They're sensitive, they're intelligent, they're responsive and energetic and they're cute! However, most other people I talk to have a bad idea of arabians.

Honestly, seriously, I don't know why. No one can really tell me any specific reason or bad experiences they've had on arabians. This may not seem like the right place to ask this but I trust that you know arabians and your opinions will be justified and not prejudiced. Is this just a bad wrap or is there something I don't know about? I'm asking because in the next year I plan to buy a horse and I'll be looking for an arab or an arab cross. Are there any specific undesirable traits that due come up in arabs that I should watch out for? I would be looking for a best friend and a casual hunter/jumper trail partner, not a show horse.

Guardian Oasis is going professional

Over the past 15 years (yes, it really has been that long) I've been working with horses in a probono sort of way, helping people out with what they want with horses and redirecting those with horses so they are going the right way towards success with horses. 15 years..... it's hard to believe it's been that long. Well after 15 years we have finally decided to settle down and become a professional barn. Over the next six months we will be working towards settling down pricing for all our services (which is a lot more than most people know). In the next year we are hoping to settle down on a barn were I can have my clients and their horses come to a centered location.

Over the next six months I will be taking horses for training for a reduced rate. This rate reflects my desire to get into multiple fields of the horse industry. I currently specialize in Arabians, but I would like to get into Quarter Horses, Paints, Pintos, Thoroughbreds and many more including multiple types of riding.

I look forward to seeing what the next year and a half will bring me. If you have any suggestions, please, send them my way. Anything is helpful.

Allow me to say HI!

My name is Amanda Wright, my horses and I all live here in Washington State in the shadow of Mt. Rainier (then again who in WA doesn't live in the shadow of Mt. Rainier?) I've been working with Arabians on and off since before I was nine either with pure or half arabs. I finally settled down as a small breeder two Septembers ago with my purchase of my colt who will be two in July and a mare in foal who I sold this past winter back to the lady I bought her from. I currently as of right now have two huge mares of my own (ones 22 the other is 18), one additional mare that belongs to my business partner (or my partner in crime) who is 14HH and double registered as a purebred Arabian Pony and my soon to be two year old. I'm waiting for a lease to go through on another stallion we are leasing to own to add to our growing herd who is straight egyptian, AWS qualified and a pony. We breed all purebred horses both ponies and average sized Arabians and one day, as my husband wishes, we will add Percherons. We hope to have all three mares in foal this year for babies next year. It will be exciting.

I look forward to see what comes across in this group. If anyone wants my web address. It's currently docked at http://www.angelfire.com/guardianoasis/index.html

On-Farm Partial Leases for Central Texas folks (X-Posted)

What does it mean to lease a horse?

By leasing a horse, you get a lot of the privileges of owning a horse like being able to ride on your own schedule and having personal time with the horse. Some leases will also expect you to assume many of the responsibilities of horse ownership - from feeding duties to scheduling the farrier and vet visits. Regardless of the terms of your lease it is a great way to try out being a horse owner at a fraction of the cost and risk.

At Bella Peregrina Ranch, we offer partial leases on our horses. We will retain all responsibility for feeding, farrier and vet visits. Leasers will get use of our tack, tools and facilities according to a mutually agreeable schedule. Lease fees will reflect how many days a week you want to spend with the horse, but generally are $75 a month for 2 days a week. (HORSES WILL NOT LEAVE THE FACILITIES UNLESS TRANSPORTED BY BELLA PEREGRINA RANCH.)

Riding instruction is not included in a lease, but we recommend leasers consider taking lessons on their leased horse to be sure that they are getting the most out of their relationship with that horse. Interested leasers who have not taken lessons from us before will be required to take several lessons so that we can get a good
understanding of their skills and desires.

FAQ's

FAQ’s REGARDING LEASING A HORSE AT BELLA PEREGRINA RANCH

Q. What is a Horse Lease?
A. A Horse Lease is a Long-Term Lease for the purpose of having one special horse to ride on your own. By leasing a horse, you get a lot of the privileges of owning a horse, like being able to ride on your own schedule and having personal time with the horse. At Bella Peregrina Ranch, a Horse Lease is almost like owning a horse (at a fraction of the cost), without the responsibilities for food, care, farrier, vet, etc.

Q. How old must I be to lease a horse?
A. A Horse Lease is not based on age, but on your ability to be able to safely catch, saddle, bridle, and ride on your own. We will lease a horse to minors (kids under 18) as long as their parents sign the lease agreement and understand the conditions for approval.

Q. Must I be an Advanced Rider to lease a horse?
A. No, but you must have had enough lessons to be able to ride on your own, safely, without an instructor present. In some cases, if you are younger than 18, but have a parent who has enough horse experience to help you, we will allow the lease if the parent will always be with you.

Q. How much does a Horse Lease cost?
A. Bella Peregrina Ranch offers 3 different Lease Programs:
1. Horse privileges 2 times per week for $75 per month
2. Horse privileges 3 times per week for $125 per month
3. Horse privileges, unlimited number, for $225 per month
Most people find the twice per week plan to suit their needs for time spent with their horse and time they have available to come out.
When you break it down, the above times/rates are:
• $75/mo. for 2x/week = 8 to 9 rides = $8.33 to 9.38 per ride
• $125/mo. for 3x/week = 13 to 14 rides = $8.93 to 9.62 per ride
* $225/mo for unlimited rides
Therefore, even if you are only able to come out 4 times per month, you are still only paying $18.75 each time which is less than any riding stable on an unknown, (and possibly un-fun), horse. And, you still make your own schedule with 'your own horse' and all the benefits of having/building that special relationship. If you do come out more often, you are getting an even more incredible deal!

Q. Can I lease a horse for the Summer only?
A. No. We ask for a 6 month commitment for our long-term leases. Our horses are very valuable to us, and it is not in their best interests to have continually changing leasors. They need to establish a bond with you, as well as vice versa.

Q. When can I ride “my horse?”
A. Ranch hours are 7 am to 11 pm. You can ride any time we are not using the horses ourselves (for example, away at an Event or giving Lessons.) Please call before you come. We will keep you posted about our Event and Lesson schedule. If another person is leasing the same horse as you are, you work out times with them.

Q. Can I still take lessons while I am leasing?
A. Yes, but lessons are not included in the lease and they cost extra.

Q. How long do I get to ride when I am here?
A. Most people spend about 1 to 1 ½ hours with their horse each time they come. This includes ground time as well as riding. We don’t put a time limit on your riding time as long as you don’t overdo it. (No more than 3 hours at a time.)

Q. Can I ride outside the arena?
A. Yes, if you are approved for that on your lease.

Contact info:
Phone: five one two - two six nine - six three zero nine
Email: skyeds(at)tex1(dot)net

Hey everyone, it's been a long long long time since I've posted :) But I decided to share with you my new mare.

That's right, I bought a new horse. She is a 2001 Model, and I am absolutely smitten with my purchase. Her registered name is Kenos Cotton Candy, but is better known as Kandee. [I have a thing with different spellings of normal words. Plus "Sugar" is generic.] She is double registered AHA and PtHA. But she will also be registered in ISHR as well as NQHR.

She is going to be enrolled in the trail programs with all the registries, as well as the endurance programs, and showing programs. This mare is going to be part of my program in a few years, and I want her to have the best possible record as possible.

Here are her bloodlines:

http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/kenos+cotton+candy

Not bad, love the Muscat breeding. I'm used to the Raffles*, but I think this will be a nice change.

Either way, here are some pictures. The ones in which she is slicked out in are older ones, and her head looks a little plain in them. The winter ones, however, are brand new and it seems as if she's grown into her head a bit. :)

Conformation Pic

Her neck is a bit short, and her shoulder a bit steep. Otherwise - she's not bad at all.

New picture from last week.

Headshot

Looks like she's grown into her head

Baby picture!

<lj-embed id="1" />

So that's Kandee. Since I am still living in NC, she will be staying at my friend Kim's house until I move back in March. Until then, Kim will be ponying her every time she goes out riding.

What do you guys think?

Just wanted to make a quick update in reference to all of these fires. The fire is still bearing down on Anza, we're prepared to evacuate if we need to. However, where I live, we are safe from all the fires.

Main thing I wanted to update about was keeping North Arabians in your thoughts. Part of their facility burnt down in the Witch Creek fire. All of their horses were evacuated thank goodness, but its gonna be a long road ahead for them.

North Arabians is home to some very stellar arab show horses including Pardons Pscyhe.

Sir Fames HBV

Magnum Chall HVP

And Ever After NA

We contacted Laura Cronk to find out how she was doing with the Fallbrook fire and she informed us that the Norths had lost parts of their place. We called them to see if they needed assistance but they had already evacuated thank god.

Anyway, continue to keep all the horsey people in your thoughts as well as everyone else and hopefully we won't have to pack up the place in Anza.
