how to set a horses tail question
Hi guys!
I was needing to know how to get my arabian mare to hold her tail up while she is being judged in a halter class. She only holds it up when she is trotting into and out of the showring or when she is excited running in the field. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,
Sincerely, arabiannit

If you really must have her tail up, there is a man up here who uses surgical tubing (its yellow and very stretchy) and puts it under the tail then ties it to a sercingle (sp?) it helps set the tail but only works if the horse is young. personally i've seen plenty of horses who show nice and win without having their tails up.

i wouldnt worry bout it. if she is flagging it during her trot out then they will still see that "classic arabian trait".
most of the great halter horseshere in Austraila dont flag their tail when being stood up.

Thanks! That makes me feel better about her performance then. I was hoping to get a picture of her set up flagging her tail. I wonder if there is a way to teach her to do that on que, without the use of aids that hold her tail up for her? She places well most of the time, but the other horses usually have their tails up so pretty, I just felt like she could look better doing that also.

a rattle or wave your hat can get her to flag up for photos, but not appropriate in a halter class
