| Hi everyone! I've been lurking here for a while... but the time has come... :) Well I am about to finish up my junior year at a medium-large sized college... and I have REALLY been searching for a perfect grad school. I want to go to grad school to get my PhD in clinical psychology. :) I want to work in a clinic and do research at a college on eating disorder recovery/prevention. My top choices right now are: Drexel University Boston University University of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania State Rutgers University (and hopefully I won't have to resort to:) my current college University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University
I'm still looking at others but these are the main choices so far. here are my stats currently: OVERALL gpa: 3.9 MAJOR gpa: 4.0 I will be taking my psych gres on saturday and my general gres in the fall I have done one internship so far at a children's camp I have a teaching assistantship for psych 1000 lined up for the fall and spring of my senior year (eek next semester) I am a member of psi chi, and the president of a student body org.
I will not have a lot of money to work with when it comes to going to grad, so I was wondering what my chances are of getting into a school (like the ones listed above) and getting a decent sized tuition assistance/fellowship/assistantship package...
Also and info about the schools or tips about choosing a program would be great :)
___________________________________________________________________________ UPDATE: So like I mentioned in one of the comments I am currently doing my senior thesis (and yes it is related to what I want to use my PhD. for...) And actually what is so funny about everyone commenting about research.... is that one of my professors sent out an email i think last Friday encouraging his better preforming students to seek out professors including himself for research in the fall. I have been so busy with my gres this weekend that I have had no time to go out and seek one out, but everyone's advice really gave me a kick in the butt. I stopped by the office of one of my favorite professors today (she does research on stalking and unwanted pursuit) and we set up a plan for me to work on some directed reading for the summer (maybe the training can start then too she said) and then I will have the R.A. position w/ her in the fall :) I hope that combined with what I already have (and yes I know that I won't be published by the time that I apply to school, but with gathering pilot data over the summer, and real data in the fall I think there is a shot (well at least according to my advisors) to have my article published by the time I graduate... but its all up in the air time wise... as you all mentioned) things will work out. I appreciate all of your advice... I won't lie... you guys terrified me ( 0.0 ) but it helps to hear things from people other than your professors... thanks :) |
