17th-Jul-2008 03:13 pm - I took the GRE!
I took the GRE yesterday, and I'm not sure if I'm entirely happy with my scores. I got a 600 on verbal and 700 on quantitative. The averages of the 2 programs in clinical psychology that I'm going to apply to are 620 on verbal and 680 on quant, and the other program's averages are 540 on verbal and 640 on quant (but this program hasn't posted stats since 2005).

I know clinical psych programs are very focused on research, and I'm working on an honor's thesis. So, I'm doing my own study and everything. I just feel like my scores and doing my own research are still not enough.

Are there any clinical psych grad students out there that could give me some advice, suggestions, or reassurance?
14th-Feb-2008 03:05 pm - Group Interviews
Oh Yeah!
Has anyone been through a "group interview" process with other applicants? What have your experiences been? Two of my interviews consist of a group interview as well as individual interviews. My field is clinical psych, btw. Any feedback is welcome!
27th-Dec-2007 03:27 pm - panicked plea for help!
obama_bitch
I'm applying to Master's programs in Clinical psychology, and I need feedback/critiquing on my SOP.  I will take any help I can get, even scathing ripping apart of it is fine!  None of my go-to essay readers are around and I need to get this in asap.  Trade you?  I'll critique yours if you critique mine?

Thanks in advance!!!!

15th-Dec-2007 04:49 pm - Discussion of Present Work: A Conundrum
cold
Any and all input on this is greatly appreciated.  I honestly have no idea what to do.

I'm applying to clinical psych Ph.D. programs.  One such program is in my geographic area and has applications due on Monday.  I am handing in the application to the admission co-ordinator's mailbox tomorrow.  I talked to a professor I'm interested in working with last month; we had a brief discussion about research interests, and I told him about a project I'm currently conducting.  He said it sounded really interesting, asked how far we were on the data collection, and told me to let him know how it was going by including a discussion of the project and an update with my application.

It's a somewhat complicated project, and in order for him to understand it completely the description and preliminary results need to be about one single-spaced page long (550 words).

The application has a "Training and Experience" section (no guidelines as to length or format) and a "Goals" section (where they specifically ask about *future* research interests.  Here are my options, as I see them:

1)  Include a description of the project and preliminary findings in the "Training and Experience" section.  This would be about a page long.
2)  Include a description of the project and preliminary findings in the "Training and Experience" section.  Also send the professor an email letting him know that I submitted my application and he can read about preliminary findings in the app.
3)  Include a description of the project and preliminary findings and just attach it to the application, like a writing sample (they do not ask for a writing sample).
4)  E-mail the professor directly with the page-long update, and also mention that I've submitted my application.  Include a brief and simplified description of the project with the application.

Suggestions?
9th-Dec-2007 11:20 am - Clinical Psych Autobiographies
Oh Yeah!
Hi everyone,
I hope that you're all doing well with your applications and I wish everyone the best of luck :)
I'm applying to Psy.D. and Ph.D. in clinical psych programs and I have a small question to anyone who is familiar with these applications and willing to help me out. Some of the schools ask for an "autobiography" or a "short autobiographical statement" in addition to or as part of the personal statement/statement of intent. Do they really mean AUTOBIOGRAPHY? Are they expecting me to write about personal stuff, or can I take this to mean a professional autobiography? I feel that anything that went on with me personally is none of their business, but I keep getting hung up on this term "autobiography." What do you think?
Thanks again :)
