[Drabble] Paris (Nodame Cantabile)

Paris was full of people who didn't speak Japanese and funny-tasting food that tasted better than canned bear meat, but not that much better. Maybe the French had good food--everyone said they were gor-mei, or however that word was spelled--but what was the point when she couldn't read the menu?

Stupid menus in stupid French she couldn't read. She wouldn't have made that mistake with the snails, then, and Chiaki-senpai wouldn't have laughed at her. She didn't hate the snails; they weren't that bad, once you got used to the idea that you were eating snails. But Chiaki-senpai had laughed at her.

He didn't believe Nodame could understand English and German at all--she could see it in his eyes, in the hilarity of his laughter. Milch--(she knew that was German for milk now, but Japanese names were just as bad if you thought about them literally, and anyway it was only a name)--sometimes used German words, and Nodame had looked them up when she remembered. She'd studied them, too--Schumann and Beethoven (who always used German), and Schubert who she'd detested. She'd studied them because she'd wanted to be with Chiaki-senpai.

And he'd laughed at her.

Nodame hated Paris.

A week later, Nodame sighed happily, stretching herself out to fill the length of the bathtub. She hummed happily--Puri Puri Gorota--and leaned her head back against the beige walls of Chiaki-senpai's bathroom. He'd refused to wash her hair, but it was okay. She had Chiaki-senpai's shampoo, Chiaki-senpai's soap, and the view from Chiaki-senpai's bathroom window (with the huge window overlooking everything and so high no one was looking in). Chiaki-senpai was just outside the door, studying his orchestral scores, and after Nodame was done, they would take a break from studying, and Chiaki-senpai was going to cook her some French cuisine.

Nodame loved Paris.
