[One-shot] Rival April Fools (Prince of Tennis)

Author's notes: I just wanted to have an excuse to write computer code in a fic without using Inui. ^_^ That, and misquote one of my favorite movies when I was in high school. Kudos to anyone who guesses the movie!

Eiji typed 'admin' and pressed enter.

Password: _

Again, Eiji tried 'admin', but the prompt repeated. He shrugged. So this one had changed the default password. In that case, the system administrator had probably changed the password for the other computers in this cluster, too. Hmm.

Well then. The four major passwords. Entering 'sex' yielded no access. Neither did 'love' or 'money'. Eiji pouted. Darn it. The last one had always worked before.

Well ... there was this other one. Eiji tried 'god'.

No dice. The system flashed a message, warning that one more inaccurate login would invalidate his IP address and initiate a trace.

"Mou, Fuji, last one, and none of the four major passwords worked," Eiji said, tapping irritably. He picked up a pen and flicked the pen from one hand to the other, watching as it pinwheeled around his fingers. Statistically speaking, the four major passwords got you into most root accounts, because people never thought their passwords were guessable. They'd needed Fuji to use the password cracker program only once in the two years they'd been doing this, and even then, they'd done it from a manga cafe with wireless internet. "Now it's going to start a trace if I fail this last one."

"I'll cover you if it does," Fuji said, looking up from his laptop. "Did you try the passwords in Japanese?"

"Oh." Eiji groaned, and smacked his forehead, then smiled sheepishly at Fuji. "Not yet. I forgot. We've been hacking into too many American servers, nya."

"Ah well. Echizen seems to be satisfied now, so I think we probably won't be hacking any more for a while. Perhaps he's finally tired of that vendetta against Kevin?"

"I hope so," Eiji said, and he shuddered. "Ochibi can be so mean when he wants to be." Fuji was comfortably seated on Eiji's bed, and his hair ruffled a little as the breeze blew in through Eiji's window. Fuji's hair was brown and wispy, and Eiji watched for a little while as the wind fluffed Fuji's hair and made a light brown halo around him.

"Something interesting?" Fuji said, and Eiji realized Fuji was smiling. Eiji shook his head and stuck his tongue out at Fuji before returning to the work at hand. He furrowed his brow, and sat there for a moment, thinking, before shrugging. "Best shot," he said, and keyed in a word.

"Hah! Gotcha. Nya, Fuji, I'm in!" Eiji grinned, turning to Fuji with a thumbs-up and a wink. He paused a moment, considering. He'd finally gotten in one of the Department of Labour's servers, and he took a moment to savor the immense feeling of victory.

"Congratulations," Fuji said. Eiji heard the sound of keys rapidly being tapped. "I'm all set up, ready when you are."

Oops. Eiji forgot. He had to create an account for Fuji to get in. "Gimme a moment," he said, typing in the commands quickly. It only took Eiji ten seconds to create, and then he sent Fuji an instant message with the server and login information. "Hoi, incoming."

Fuji typed, clicked, and then Eiji, now logged in as the system administrator, watched as 'user1_fs' logged in, uploaded "rikkai.zip" to the webserver, and deleted some logs. Eiji unzipped the files and moved them into the correct directories, then renamed them. Now the next person to visit the Department of Labour's website would be greeted not with the official webpage but with some rather ... interesting pictures of Rikkai.

"Alright, Eiji, I've installed the spoofing script. Ready to tunnel through and hop onto the next one?" Fuji said.

"You go ahead," Eiji said. Fuji took considerably less time to do it, and the only reason why Eiji had done the first server was because Fuji had been busy finishing the HTML encoding on the webpages they'd just uploaded and the pictures they'd embedded. The last server had one school. This one had another.

"Eiji," Fuji said. "I've got Rikkai and St Rudolph, but I thought you would like to put up Hyoutei's."

Eiji grinned. "Hoi. Which server?"

"Try server number nine."

So Eiji did.

Eiji blinked. He hadn't expected it to be this easy, but apparently ... it was.

"I disabled security measures already," Fuji said as Eiji gaped at the screen.

"Oh," Eiji said, and then he grinned. This would be fast. "Thanks, Fuji."

Eiji's fingers flew across his keyboard, then he paused. "I need the files, Fuji."

"Here," Fuji said. In Eiji's instant messenger, the "receive file" dialog box popped up.

SaboTensai has sent you the following file: "hyoutei.zip"
Would you like to accept it?

Eiji clicked 'Yes' and then fidgeted for the five seconds it took the file to transfer. As soon as he got it, he initiated the secure upload onto the server called 'dol-09web'. A few more keystrokes, and then it was time to rename the files.

They were finished in less than five minutes, and Fuji made sure the system logs were amended before logging off. They grinned at each other, and Eiji high-fived Fuji.

The next morning, Eiji joined Fuji on the roof, giggling. Fuji smiled and waited patiently for Eiji to stop laughing enough to speak.

"Yukimura called Tezuka and demanded to know who did it," Eiji finally said, chuckling. "So did Atobe. Oishi told me Inui's friend Yanagi called Inui in class, too. And o-chibi wants to know why we didn't invite him!"

"Yuuta told me their manager's face turned purple," Fuji said serenely, smiling. "Finally his clothes make sense."

They exchanged glances for a second, and then Eiji collapsed on the rooftop in peals of laughter.

Omake:

Eiji blinked at the URL sent to him through an anonymous e-mail address from Yahoo.co.jp. He never clicked directly on links, but this looked genuine enough. To be on the safe side, Eiji sandboxed the browser and used an anonymous proxy. He typed the URL in, and then blinked as he realized what he was seeing.

SaboTensai sent him an IM. Did you get the URL?

Eiji typed, Who did this?

I doubt anyone at St Rudolph has the brains, unless Nomura's smarter than he looks. Hyoutei wouldn't bother being anonymous.

Erase it!

Niou's covered his tracks well, and that one's been routed through a few major nodes. Look at the CC: field in the e-mail, Eiji.

Eiji did, and almost cried. In the five minutes it took Fuji to take down the pictures of himself and Fuji as nubile young women on the beach in playboy bunny outfits, Eiji received twenty phone calls, five of them from Oishi, and three from Inui.

Next year, Rikkai was really going to get it.
