Hey [info]phinnia? Remind me that I want to try this on the Sirius account page before we totally toss the idea of a satellite radio service that carries CBC.
Also, for those of you learning to speak Braille, I learned this morning in my attempt to get my phone fixed that the following words, when spoken in Braille (as I was obviously doing) have totally different meanings in English, particularly when asking for directions:

  • Transit tunnel exit: "Elevator"

  • Street level: "Elevator"

  • 5th and Pine: "Elevator"

  • Escallator: "Elevator"

  • AT&T Retail Store: "Elevator"

  • Mall exit: "Elevator"

  • Could you tell me where I might find $foo: "Could you totally waste twenty minutes for a mall security officer to come, possibly with a wheelchair, and push me the twenty or so feet to $foo?"

  • No, for God's sake, I have a meeting this morning and that would take too long: "No, that's totally fine. I'll wait for mall security. I mean ... where do I have to go? The volunteer readers don't show up at the Seattle Public Library to read us poor blind people our properly screened and edited books until at least noon."

This, along with previous lessons I'd learned (like the fact that, for instance, I'd completely missed that "Microsoft", "Montlake Freeway Station" and "downtown" could all *EITHER* mean the Library for the Blind *OR* the Social Security office) makes me wonder just how anyone could possibly manage to learn to speak Braille in the first place.
I sure hope this comes in handy for someone.
Also, apropos of nothing: I cannot see VBS, even when it's used to refer to "Vacation Bible School"1, and not think "VBScript file extension". Similarly, "bf" is "boyfriend" and WLS continues to refer to a radio station in Chicago, at least in my brain, despite my attempts to assign them alternate meanings.
1 [info]phinnia refused to believe that this phenomenon existed, which makes me wonder—does it exist outside the southern United States? I remember my grandmother and aunt menacing me with it, until I told them that there was absolutely no way I would be able to read any of the material, so my hours would probably be far better spent learning a new programming language or something.

What was the first music album you ever bought or owned? Do you still listen to it or have you moved on?

I think the first CD I was given was the English-language Beauty and the Beast soundtrack. This was back when the movie was in theatres, and back then my dad did a good chunk of travelling abroad for work. So knowing I loved the movie so much he picked up the soundtrack on a business trip to the US. Of course, I was in like 1st grade at the time, so I understood nothing of it, but I still loved it.

I've still got it, but I've not listened to it in a long, long time. Probably since before we moved down south, which was when I was about to start 4th grade. Still a CD I'm more inclined to keep than some of my more recent aquisitions. (Honestly, what possessed mum to buy some of the CDs she's bought me over the years?) I just don't have any memories of the movie in English so the music means less to me than it could.

I really want to get a couple of other Disney soundtracks, though: Pocahontas and Brother Bear. And I want the Spirit - Stallion of the Cimarron soundtrack as well, unless I already picked it up... Scatterbrained, that's me!

I may be a mess most of today. I have an appointment to take Gandalf, our eldest cat, in to be put to sleep this morning. He's almost 16 and having late-stage chronic renal failure, and is about a week past the point of no return, as far as we can tell. We had him in the hospital last week and have had him on subcutaneous fluids and a phosphorous binder this week, and it's just not doing any good.

So yeah, not shaping up to be a good morning.

Particularly for those folks in Kansas, but in general, Running for Office, XKCD Style is quite amusing.

Have changed the (tongue-in-cheek) scathing pop culture commentary tag to belated reviews because that's the only kind of review you should expect to see here: It's not unheard-of for me to see movies opening weekend, but I have to think about them for a long time before I'm ready to review them, and I operate well behind the curve on nearly all other sorts of media.

Go to musicoutfitters.com. Search on the year you graduated from high school and get the list of 100 most popular songs of that year, and:

* Bold the songs you like.
* Italicize the songs you liked then, but don't now.
* Strike through the ones you hate.
* Underline your favorites.
* Do nothing to the ones you don't remember or are neutral on.

[i didn't bother to look anything up--if i didn't remember it via title and artist, then i did nothing; i didn't want to chance looking it up and having a song i HATE stuck in my head. yes, that's how bad the world of music was that year. TERRIBLE.]

Oh look, actual new Avatar canon. Huzzah. Although I was uninspired by the whole thing (but I'm an evil bitch occasionally and usually find mercy plots to be really ho hum- I WANT TO BREAK PEOPLE), really. It needed moar Toph. (I totally almost wrote Tosh there- NOT THE SAME CHARACTER. NOT BY A LONGSHOT.) Tomorrow's is one I've been looking forward to ever since the first clips leaked, so that'll be awesome. And then this weekend is EPIC FINALE OF DOOM... And another fandom dies. Not that I care, considering for the past seven months, I've been obsessing over a canon that's been dead for years, and I'm not particularly active in AtLA fandom anyway, but eh.

Also if that one scene wasn't supposed to be as dirty as it looked.... It was as dirty as it looked.

I fail at RP right now. I have things to do either tomorrow or Saturday though, so I'll probably try to get on the ball with that. God, I really need to kill Natasha off at some point. Rrow. I've been doing [info]itsproductivity prompts and writing all day, so at least I'm doing productive things! My ficbrain just can't exist at the same time as my threadbrain apparently.

And I'm pretty much going to continue watching Alias Season Four, because I'm flailing at all the fics I need to write while my ficbrain is active and I need to do something to refresh it... Or whatever. And I really need to see the last two seasons of Alias in whole, rather than in part anyway, because... Yes.

Music:A Man's Gotta Do- Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog

*flops*

Called in sick to work today because I woke up achey and exhausted with the cramps from hell and stuffed up and.... Shit, I swear I felt like I had gotten the flu on top of my period. It's calmed down some, but that's probably because I went back to bed after I called in and slept in until... Right now. Bah. So I guess I get a four-day weekend.

Shit. I pre-filled out my timesheet this week, didn't I? I knew that was a bad idea. And also not exactly ethical, but I always go into work- this is seriously the first time I've ever called in sick and I only missed partial days last year when I had meetings to go to. Bah and I don't have any extra timesheets at the office to make up a new one. Mental note: Swing by the career center and get some extra timesheets.

I feel really bad for calling in sick.... It's not like I'm not sick. I feel god-awful even though it isn't as bad as it was before, but... I don't know. I only have a set amount of days to work and it seems... I'm just going to shut up now.

Rrow.

On the bright side, Dr. Horrible is so unbelievably fantastic and I love it. *flailyhands*
