| Monthly prompt for May: "Maps & Legends Challenge" is now closed!" three entries: Two art/one fiction Hornblower: 2 entries Pirates of the Caribbean: 1 entry Please feel free to post all entries to the "Maps & Legends" challenge to your journals/other communities now. Community AnnouncementInstead of a monthly challenge for June, we’re going to be closing down the community. We appreciate so much everyone who came and played in our sandbox and who gave us all the great stories and poetry and art and video that came out of this. We hope you guys had a fun time playing along. As much as we’ve had fun running the comm. (and trust us, we have), it seems that the interest in Age of Sail fandoms, at least as represented by our community members, has waned in the face of other things. Such is the cycle of fandom, and we had a good ride. If you’re interested in using any of the old challenges as a basis for a story, art, poetry or vid, you’re welcome to do so (um, obviously), and you’re more than welcome to post them or a link to them here. Thanks again! Sincerely, nolivingman and romanticalgirl | |

| Title: Peccatum Contra Naturam Tabula Artist: Black Hound Medium: Digital Characters: Who else! Hornblower & Bush. Sorta. Rating: Eh. PG? If you read Latin. Challenge Prompt: Maps & Legends Notes: Ya see, this map? It was found some years after the Napoleonic Wars were over in a cache of secret service papers in France. Apparently Napoleonic seekrit agents were watching a couple of British sailors and their um ... exploits, and carefully marking up a map ..... ;) ( Peccatum Contra Naturam ) | |

| The challenge for May is Maps and Legends. Why? Well I heard the R.E.M. song a little while ago, and it just seemed like the title would fit into Age of Sail. Maps are everywhere! And they are awesomely cool - I love maps. You consult them when you're lost, you plan your next move with them, sometimes you just pull them out and dream of where to sail to next. And legends are all we do here, all the time. So I hope this will inspire you, and I hope you have fun. | |

That is, we want you to make stuff starring one or more captains. Hornblower, Wentworth, Bush, Bligh (heh), Aubrey, Jack Sparrow, Jane Roland and Will Laurence, and so many more: they're all brave and impetuous, daring and (sometimes) insane, they lead with vision (or visions), in victory and defeat. | “I must study politics and war” By Lokei Universe: Horatio Hornblower Rating: PG Challenge: Historical Personages Disclaimer: John Adams and I share a hometown, but Pellew and Hornblower are CSF’s. Author’s Note: It is, apparently, very difficult to make a political lesson between Pellew and Hornblower interesting if you’re not already a navy/politics/Adams fan. I had to work my favorite historical figure in here somehow, though! = = = ( Read more... ) | |
