Anti-Plebe Community's Policy
Anti-Plebe community was set up in order to prevent the violation of all common rules of FAP and report on people who are annoying to the Fandom at large. Any member of this community has all the rights to post her/his own ideas on certain people.

Who are the plebes/ plebs according to the Anti-Plebe policy?

1. A plebe is a person who violates the ToU of FA and FAP in particular. We think that being a new person isn't always an excuse for abusing the rules, and we have reasons for that. Some people, even after we ask them to read the ToU and correct their posts, do not react. We all have eyes and are able to read, so why not pay attention to what we write and what others advise?
2. Concerning the previous words, here's another pleb-definition. A plebe is a person who uses netspeak and makes lots of grammar mistakes. Not every person at FAP speaks netspeak and we, Anti-Plebe members, in fact, don't like it at all; when a post contains many spelling mistakes, one cannot understand it. This is annoying, especially if English isn't your first language [it annoys the hell out of me, in particular].
3. A plebe writes very similar one-line reviews. Some authors get very irritated, when the only thing they receive from one and the same person is "WHOA! Cool! ^_^ Wicked" and so on. It is OK if someone comments this way once or twice, but if this person just fills the review-board with such reviews, every author has the right to speak out here, especially if this particular person, the pleb, posts several reviews at the same board for one chapter, and all the posts say "Cool. WOW."
4. According to other people here, a pleb is also someone who flames slashers. We think that if you don't like slash, don't attack those who either write it or read it.
5. While mentioning the way a pleb reviews, I'd like to add that a pleb frequently posts something like this: "Hey, this fic is pretty OK, but add some more sex and snogging, make Ginny worse, change Harry, (and etc.)". IF you review a fic and have something to say about the quality of the fic and the mistakes of the author, say it. But, honestly, the author has betas and her/his own brains to decide about the plot and the characters. This is absolutely up to her/him.
6. So, plebs. To sum up everything said above, a pleb is generally:
~ a person of 13-17 years old. It's someone in her/his mid teens. Why do we choose this age? Well, probably there are plebs aged 18 and over, but we haven't seen many yet.
~ a person whose first language is not English. In this case the pleb ignores grammar, spelling, and does absolutely nothing to help others understand her/him.
~ a person who speaks English as his/her first language, but disregards basic conventions of grammar
(peculiarities of the plebs are actually mentioned above).
~ a pleb is not a newbie most of the times. It's someone who has been at FA(P) for quite a period of time and has more than 100 posts.
BUT: being a newbie is not always an excuse, so even a new member of FAP is sometimes considered a pleb. Besides, it's up to the members of Anti-Plebe to decide, and then explain why she/he considers this person a PLEB.
~ a pleb is a member of other HP related fandoms and resources, including but not limited to FanFiction Net
~ a pleb is someone who writes crap, awful plebeian crap. The members of APR have every right to call this person a PLEB.

Most members of FAP have probably gone through a spell of plebedom in their FAP sojourn. Plebes are the ones who refuse to move past this stage. Please, for the sake of the fandom, make an attempt at intelligence.

Call us whatever you want. Yes, we are witch-hunting bitches.

I believe this is it. Anti-Plebe members are welcome to add new points and ask to edit this entry :).

I'd point out that plebeians aren't restricted to FAP. They litter the entire fandom with their brainrotting bile, and I figure that we should be able to report the occasional plebe who isn't from FAP but is still a disgusting individual who needs to be narked on. ;)

Now I must show this to my dad. He discovered I was in Antiplebe, and wanted to know what it was all about. I think you make quite a few good points on what we're about. Thanks. Now I have something solid to tell people...

"Why we choose this age? Well, probably there are plebs, whose age is 18- more, but we haven't seen many yet."

Oh, man. Is this a joke? You guys need to find a beta-reader for your manifesto before you go throwing around the word "plebe".

You know, there's been discussion on whether it's 'pleb' or 'plebe.'

It all depends on whether you mean to say as opposed to a Roman patrician, thus coming into English as 'pleb,' since it would have a short 'e,' or you might mean the youngest kids at a military school, one of whom would be affectionately referred to as a 'plebe.'

By this reasoning, they're both right, since both definitions more or less work.

If you're going to be pedantic, make sure you're right. :)

I'm not saying this to be nasty, it's just that words are my thing.

sorry if this comes across as snippy, but:

Hee, your icon is fabulous. XD

Um, anyway. Actually, I wasn't talking about the plebe/pleb thing. I was talking about all the grammatical errors in the post: subject-verb disagreements/precedent-antecedent issues ("Probably once a major part of FAP posters has had something plebeian in them."), missing verbs ("Why we choose this age?"), and many, many extraneous commas ("We think that if you don't like slash, don't attack those, who either write it or read."). The post also contains spelling errors ("resourses"), misused or incorrectly phrased figures of speech ("On the other hand" to mean "additionally", "make fun out of", etc), and a lot of sentences that are awkward and poorly put together.

I usually think it's pretty rude to correct people on stuff like this, but given that it seems like your community's raison d'etre is to harrass people for having imperfect spelling/grammar or being non-native English speakers, I think you are all sort of obligated to get your grammar straight, especially in an official statement of purpose. You said it best: if you're going to be pedantic, make sure you're right. O_

Not snippy at all, actually.

I see your point. I think, however, that AntiPlebe tries to avoid jumping on non-native English speakers, as that's clearly not fair. If they react badly to what I hope is not rude criticism, or perhaps beta offers, then the problem occurs.

Now, I may be about to put my foot in it, but I believe [info]silverymist is not a native English speaker. It is true that there are some errors in the 'manifesto,' but it definitely shows effort, which is, you will note, the rubric.

Cheers

Also, with spelling and grammar, it's really the attitude that counts. And, as you will notice, [info]silverymist does ask for editing, etc. The problem occurs when they scream at you for suggesting that they try a little harder.

To be fair, I'm not sure that every criticism from a member of AntiPlebe has been all that constructive.

Thanks on the icon.

I came across this and thought to myself, "Hey, I am a little bored, let's click on this link to find out what this is all about."
I read this lame-brained manifesto and at the end of it I sat back and had myself a hearty laugh at your expense, Irini. This has got to be one of the stupidest things I have read on the internet, to date, I can't believe I actually read all of that. I could almost feel myself losing a few brain cells in the process. It would have probably been better for me to smoke a few joints than to read this piece of shit.

The critiques that this gay idea wrought, were more than constructive. I would even go so far to say that it was a credit to their time and their character to post what they did about how stupid YOU actually look for posting such a worthless and idiotic post about something that you are actually PART of. You fit every category, save for the netspeak, do you not?

Save it. Please. For the love of God and for the sakes' of your "readers", please stop and re-evaluate before you post. If not for any of that, do it to save face for future reference.

I have three words for you, and these are the same three words that rolled around in my head the whole time I was reading this retarded shit.

Hypocritical angsty teenager.

Get a fucking life. Oh yeah, and for future reference, if you are going to lambast something, fucking practice what you preach, you little attention-seeking whore.

Log my IP address, see if I care. But you can't call this harassment because I won't be back to this shitty waste of space you call a live journal.

Go you Irini!

I would like to add to this, that if you thought you were being smart, you're not. You have just proved what a complete and utter idiot you are by posting that.

Oh, and if you think any random flaming and insulting us is going to make us quiver in fear and bow down to the almighty plebes, who attack us at every turn, and swear at us because they think it'll make them sound better...*hand to forehead* oh, I don't think I can continue...it is too traumatic...

Well. Think again. Flaming never helped anyone. Weasel-plebe, just leave.

Blatantly, you are the same person. Or, one of those people's friends. You have the same mannerisms and style of insulting us. Don't praise yourselves so, it sounds so concieted.

Now take a look at your post. Do you really think that'll help? Yes? Then you're more stupid than I thought.

And also, if you are pissed off about this place, why are you here? We didn;t ask you to come here, but obviously your plebeian friend did.

It's a bit late to be saying this, but I've just checked the manifesto comments today after the Great Plebe War at my LJ and it seems to me that perhaps Weasel Plebe's friend saw my comments at Heavenzplebe4u's LJ because she's signed hers much of the way I signed my comments at Heavenzplebe's. So if there was any doubt before, Weasel Plebe's friend is most definitely a Plebe.

Thought I would share what I noticed.

So anyone who is a member of FF.net etc is automatically considered a pleb/plebe?

And I'm just curious as to how you consider it your right to call people a pleb/plebe.

Haven't you realised that some people have bad days and can't be bothered to edit their posts?

you little ethnocentric, narrow-minded kids.

just because someone doesn't speak english and can't communicate as well as you can in the language YOU'VE BEEN IMMERSED IN ALL YOUR LIFE doesn't make them a "plebe."

they're probably just as well-versed in their native tongue as you are in english.

that is disgusting.

I'd like to note, for the record, that English is my third language, that I do not mock ESL students (having been one), and that I can speak--and write--a good deal more correctly than those who are 6th generation Americans/Canadians/Englishmen/Australians/whateverthefuckyouare.

Disgusting? At least I can communicate with people in three different languages without making an arse out of myself.
