Alright.

We have heard about [info]metamorphmagi and her... ah, incidents, most recently the one involving fandom_wank. We have heard about [info]silveraddiction and [info]cynicali. Our community has been slow lately--we went three weeks without a post.

So what?

We are Anti-Pleb Revolutionaries. Or have we all forgotten that? When this community was created in February, our goal was to reduce the amount of Netslang and inane posts on FictionAlley Park. We did this through e-mails and private messages. LiveJournal was where we convened (and, okay, there was the snark factor involved, as well).

Some of us have posted on [info]silveraddiction's journal anonymously and with ad hominem insults.

With the respect of one community member to another, I ask you to stop. True, there have been problems between Antiplebe and [info]silveraddiction in the past, but one only needs to randomly click on a forum in FictionAlley Park to see the multitudes of posters who disregard the ToU, post one-liners in Netslang, who, if you will, are plebeians.

If we are to continue upholding our old standards rather than degenerate into the exact thing that fandom_wank has made us out to be, I beseech you all to remember that we have better things to do with our time than troll journals.

EtA: I took the liberty of leaving this post public. Lissa, please comment if you wish me to change this.

Anti-Plebe Community's Policy [06 Mar 2003|09:09am]

Anti-Plebe community was set up in order to prevent the violation of all common rules of FAP and report on people who are annoying to the Fandom at large. Any member of this community has all the rights to post her/his own ideas on certain people.

Who are the plebes/ plebs according to the Anti-Plebe policy?

1. A plebe is a person who violates the ToU of FA and FAP in particular. We think that being a new person isn't always an excuse for abusing the rules, and we have reasons for that. Some people, even after we ask them to read the ToU and correct their posts, do not react. We all have eyes and are able to read, so why not pay attention to what we write and what others advise?
2. Concerning the previous words, here's another pleb-definition. A plebe is a person who uses netspeak and makes lots of grammar mistakes. Not every person at FAP speaks netspeak and we, Anti-Plebe members, in fact, don't like it at all; when a post contains many spelling mistakes, one cannot understand it. This is annoying, especially if English isn't your first language [it annoys the hell out of me, in particular].
3. A plebe writes very similar one-line reviews. Some authors get very irritated, when the only thing they receive from one and the same person is "WHOA! Cool! ^_^ Wicked" and so on. It is OK if someone comments this way once or twice, but if this person just fills the review-board with such reviews, every author has the right to speak out here, especially if this particular person, the pleb, posts several reviews at the same board for one chapter, and all the posts say "Cool. WOW."
4. According to other people here, a pleb is also someone who flames slashers. We think that if you don't like slash, don't attack those who either write it or read it.
5. While mentioning the way a pleb reviews, I'd like to add that a pleb frequently posts something like this: "Hey, this fic is pretty OK, but add some more sex and snogging, make Ginny worse, change Harry, (and etc.)". IF you review a fic and have something to say about the quality of the fic and the mistakes of the author, say it. But, honestly, the author has betas and her/his own brains to decide about the plot and the characters. This is absolutely up to her/him.
6. So, plebs. To sum up everything said above, a pleb is generally:
~ a person of 13-17 years old. It's someone in her/his mid teens. Why do we choose this age? Well, probably there are plebs aged 18 and over, but we haven't seen many yet.
~ a person whose first language is not English. In this case the pleb ignores grammar, spelling, and does absolutely nothing to help others understand her/him.
~ a person who speaks English as his/her first language, but disregards basic conventions of grammar
(peculiarities of the plebs are actually mentioned above).
~ a pleb is not a newbie most of the times. It's someone who has been at FA(P) for quite a period of time and has more than 100 posts.
BUT: being a newbie is not always an excuse, so even a new member of FAP is sometimes considered a pleb. Besides, it's up to the members of Anti-Plebe to decide, and then explain why she/he considers this person a PLEB.
~ a pleb is a member of other HP related fandoms and resources, including but not limited to FanFiction Net
~ a pleb is someone who writes crap, awful plebeian crap. The members of APR have every right to call this person a PLEB.

Most members of FAP have probably gone through a spell of plebedom in their FAP sojourn. Plebes are the ones who refuse to move past this stage. Please, for the sake of the fandom, make an attempt at intelligence.

Call us whatever you want. Yes, we are witch-hunting bitches.

I believe this is it. Anti-Plebe members are welcome to add new points and ask to edit this entry :).

So it seems that some people have a problem with us and I can actually see their point of view. We know what we stand for (well vaguely-maybe something needs to be set in stone) but if other people aren't allowed to read what we've been saying they're going to think we've just been bitching about people.

Just like to point out, I've never actually gone out and looked for plebes, I've only reported the one person out who I've had a problem with at FAP. And I also think newbies should be excluded because I was a plebe before I got used the ToU.
