| so I finally saw that one movie |
[Aug. 20th, 2008|07:01 pm] |
Yup. I saw Clone Wars. Mostly so that I could have proper debates conversations with all of you. ;)
I learned from watching this movie that apparently all the best previews are put in front of movies marketed for kids. Igor, The Express, and City of Ember all looked very interesting. Possibly there is still hope for decent movies next year?
But I digress. Here is what I thought of The Clone Wars.
( the good, the bad, the ugly, the WTF, and the stuff that just makes you LOL ) |

| Maybe I caused an 8 year old to get on the Terrorist Watchlist, i dunno |
[Aug. 20th, 2008|05:14 pm] |
Thanks to roter_terror for pointing this out:
Apparently I might of caused an 8 year old some misery when he went to fly
I hope I'm not the James Robinson they had in mind when they put those people on there. Everytime I've tried to fly since early 2005, I've run into the same problem these people did. The kiosk people at the airport would tell me I'm on the terror watchlist, and they needed to call in a special code to get me cleared. at first it pissed me the fuck off and I wrote a bunch of letters. But then, after a while, I thought it was kind of funny, since it really was just an inconveinance and I wasn't getting put in jail or anything.
the last two times I've flown, I've had next to no problems, so maybe it got worked out or the FAA got lazy. It was just extremely weird that the first time it happened was when I was going to a conference of student-labor activists..........
Is the news just here to amuse me somedays? |

Three children were talking about their religions. "I'm a Catholic," said one, "And our symbol is the cross." "I'm Jewish," said the second, "And our symbol is the Star of David." The third child said, "I'm a Unitarian Universalist and our symbol is a candle in a cocktail glass!" |

Ham Sandwich is very funny cat sometimes.
While I was watching "The Bronx Is Burning" about the 1977 Yankees championship, the Son of Sam killings, and the mayor race for new york city, Ham Sandwich decided to join me in watching it project onto the wall:

You see her outline, yes? |

| Tomorrow: Solidarity Divided- The Crisis in Organzied Labor and a New Path Towards Social Justice |
[Aug. 20th, 2008|09:32 am] |

Tomorrow! Thursday, August 21st 7:00PM @ Wooden Shoe Books 508 s. 5th Street Philadelphia, PA 19147
Solidarity Divided: The Crisis in Organized Labor And A New Path Towards Social Justice An Author Talk with Bill Fletcher Jr. About the book What's the future of the labor movement in the United States? How did the onslaught of neoliberalism catch Amercian unions off guard? What would a new labor movement, one able and willing to fight for the rights of workers on all fronts, look like? "Solidarity Divided", the brand-new book co-authored by Bill Fletcher, Jr. and Fernando Gapasin, tries to answer exactly these questions. Part overview of American labor history, part analysis of recent developments in American labor, including the split of the Change to Win coalition from the AFL-CIO, and part strategic vision for a new labor movement capable of standing up for the working class and for social justice, "Solidarity Divided" is an excellent starting point for reimagining the politics of labor unions in Baltimore and beyond.
About Bill Fletcher, Jr. Bill Fletcher, Jr. is currently director of Field Services and Education at AFGE (American Federation of Government Employees), and executive editor of Black Commentator. He is a co-founder of the Black Radical Congress as well as the Center for Labor Renewal, formerly served as President of TransAfrica Forum, and was the Education Director and later Assistant to the President of the AFL-CIO. He is the author of "The Indispensable Ally: Black Workers and the Formation of the Congress of Industrial Relations, 1934-1941." |

| Talking about my feelings post |
[Aug. 20th, 2008|09:02 am] |
:
Generally I tend to see the good in individual people long before I see the bad in them. (i guess I've always thought that people deserve a few chances to redeem themselves). This has caused me to make poor choices in who I trust and who I've chosen to work with in the past, though it has also allowed me to give a lot of people opportunities that a lot of other people never let them have, for whatever reason, meaning that I often befriend oddballs and misfits on the edge of a community.
A lot of times, because I see the good (such as loyalty, trust, ability to get things done, and actually showing up when you said you would) in people a while before I see the bad (such as flakeyness, bad communication skills, making excuses instead of excepting responsibility, or terrible tempers, or inconsistency in how they treat people), it leads to not-very-good outcomes in my dealings with them.
And for those who actually turn out to be good, I will be loyal to them to end of time and fight for them no matter what.
All this said, I have my bad qualities too.
For one, I tend to keep long-standing grudges. I have a mental list of people who I have decided I are my enemies till the end of time.
It's pretty damn hard to get on that list. As of August 20th, 2008, there's 4 people on it. All of these people I gave multiple chances to redeem themselves to me, tried talking to them one-on-one multiple times, tried my very best to not develop bad feelings toward them, and still they went out of their way to fuck with me and be a fucking asshole to me and fuck with the things that I value and love in life.
Once you get on that list, it's damn near impossible to get off of it. I will never lift a finger to help those on the list, and if I get a chance, I will hurt those people (emotionally or physically, maybe) on that list. But most of all, I will try my best to have absolutely nothing to do with those people, and apart of me will distrust people who are friends with those people on the list.
1 got on the list in 2003 1 got on the list in 2004 1 got on the list in 2006 1 got on the list in 2007
Of the 4, 3 I worked with at one point on something.
Maybe it's possible to get off the list, but if you got on it in the first place, then you must be a pretty despicable character and probably won't want to make amends with me.
There's a lot of people I've had bad interactions with, but chances are I don't hate them, I just pity them or don't even care that much about them. You really gotta do multiple bad things to me or those I care about to get on this list.
And maybe, someday, I'll have my revenge on you. |

| Jews 'n Muzzies |
[Aug. 20th, 2008|06:26 am] |
Oh don't worry it's not just them, Christians also do it and even atheists nowadays. But the above two apparently have it as part of the religion. Xianity sorta does too since Jesus didn't directly say it was bad.
Fucking circumcision.
http://www.cirp.org/library/anatomy/garcia/
Readin' that got me thinkin, about how he explains the analogy to the eyelid for the eyeball, or the gum (presumably the lip?)
So I thought about starting my own religions where upon birth, you surgically amputate a baby's lips and eyelids.
Actually, this might be a bit extreme. You could have separate churches for each one. You don't want to frighten people off after all.
Hell, you could even do half of it. 'Church of the Bottom Jaw' 'Church of the Upper Jaw' 'Church of the Right Eye' 'Church of the Left Eye'. Just like Jews seem to love the glans so much they want to gawk at it all the time...
Honestly I just don't fucking get our society. You know no one would allow someone to give their babies breast implants right? That's just a fucking abhorrent idea. But at least that's fucking REVERSIBLE.
This isn't. It's amputation... like... I don't think people, especially women, fully comprehend what's been done to us here. Guys who whine about it tend to get called sissies, with other (whipped) guys going "hey dude I was circumcized and look I turned out fine". Those guys are basically asking me to sodomize them, because that's what I want to do when I hear bullshit like that.
Surviving trauma is something men can do. Maybe babies forget the pain, maybe men distract themselves from the absence they feel, whatever. Adapting does not excuse mutilating babies (or adults). This is beyond mutilation, but also sexual molestation. I don't care about the 'intent'. Whether you molest with intent for sex or not doesn't matter, and honestly, I really think Mohels and Doctors get some sick sort of thrill out of doing this.
It's probably like reenacting abuse. These guys had it done to them so they do it to others. Or in the case of uncircumcized doctors doing this, they may get a kick out of being one of those few whole guys out there who can still enjoy themselves. |

I just finished watching Serenity, mainly because Chiwetel Ejiofor is in it, and a lot of people had recommended it to me for that reason. And yes, for the curious, I did spend much of the movie thinking "LOL evil Palo." ;)
But in all seriousness, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it was much better than Firefly (no offense to fans of the show, but it's never worked for me). Although I did have a few issues with it being too dark...literally. Sometimes I just plain couldn't see what was going on, and it got confusing.
But enough of that. I have this theory, and I'm completely convinced it's true.
( Never has there been a case of truer trufax in the world... ) |

| | annoyed | ] | I feel like my worth is.....well very down. My friend got his driver's license after little practice and having not driven for a year. Another got his after a year of no practice and going in. I on the other hand have failed three times, despite being told many people that my driving skills are very good. My friends drive terribly and I'm always afraid of having the car hit something. It's really not fair to be honest. I cried all three times, and it's so weird to fail when so many friends who are not very good at driving pass their first time. I got three hard ass DMV instructors all three times, and it's just unfair how others get away with a license by the lack of standard with other instructors. I have to say part of it has to be my nervousness, which as my driving teacher had said "they pick up on". Yet honestly, the last time I took it, the DMV instructor asked if I had practice and I'm thinking Are you fucking kidding me?! I practiced so much that I felt my hands were going to bleed at the steering wheel. That really hurt actually, being told that I look like I barely drove, and I need to practice more. I just feel like utter shit right now. It's weird to fail at the chance of...freedom. Aghhh |

| Wooden Shoe History: Pictures of the Building of the New Store |
[Aug. 19th, 2008|03:07 pm] |
Talked to a wooden shoe guy from the 1990s, and he sent me some pictures of the new shoe location at 508 s. 5th, six months after the fire, under construction (we've always done all the maintanence on the place, while the landlord has done zilch)
All of these pictures feature people who are not in the collective anymore, but never the less contributed greatly to the "phoenix" of it rising again from the electrical fire that killed it on ash wednesday of 1997. The people in the pictures are (from Alfred): Alfred (with long hair/ponytail), Bull, Alexis, Albo (i think), Jenny Grimm, Scott, Betty (my ex), MaryLynn, i think Terrence McGuckin's in one photo with a hat.
Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither was the Wooden Shoe or its collective. The collective 30 years ago is different than the collective 10 years ago, just as it is different than 3 years ago or even just a year.

This is a sign on the fence of the US-Mexico Border, paid by PETA. Translated, it reads "If the Border Patrol doesn't get you, then the chicken and burgers will. Go Vegan."
WOW. That's insanely fucked up.
(and plus they're helping fund the border fence/wall) |

| last set of gymnastics event finals |
[Aug. 19th, 2008|08:30 am] |
I didn't post about the previous set of finals, but really, what was there to say except that Nastia was robbed? Every other Olympic sport allows ties. Why can't gymnastics?
But for today's finals I have these things to say. Under a cut for spoilers.
( but I'll probably just talk about bronze medalists anyway )
And I thought it was all over, but now the trampoline finals are on too! Most excellent. |
