AboutEver been cut off by a SUV-drivin' Laguna Beach-type housewife with more cell-phone minutes than IQ points?
Ever been tailgated by a Ford Excursion so tall that all you could see was a shiny front grille and some tires?
Ever noticed that most SUV drivers decide to take the open lane at the red light, yet somehow fail to end up going faster than the other red light minions, only to speed up again once you try to pass them?
Ever notice that Mercedes M-class and BMW X-class SUVs are almost never dirty?
....or that most SUVs lack trailer hitches?
....or that most SUVs are driven by a single individual?
....or that you have to almost pull around an SUV in the car pool lane just to what's in front of you in the car pool lane?
Did you know that BMW "strongly suggests" that their X-class SUVs NOT be taken off-road?
....or that the Cadillac Escalade is the biggest gas guzzling SUV known to man (aside from the Hummer)?
....that it clocks in at a whopping 10 miles per gallon around town?
....and that the Escalade is currently the most popular SUV in California?
....and one of the least safe?
Anyway, we've just been bitten in the ass one to many times by SUVs. They're too tall, they suck up gas, and are generally driven by the incompetent. They're either slowing you down or attempting to race you, cutting you off and ignoring your very existence.
It used to be that Beemer drivers were famous for this kind of treatment of their freeway-driving peers. Now that crown is worn by SUV drivers.
What can you do?
Well...nothing really. Until the SUV craze ends (and I'm predicting it will once a few more leases are up and once some more really attractive quasi-station wagons like the Audi A4 or the Mazda Protege 5 are produced), the only thing we can do is bitch, complain, moan and groan.
But at least we can do it together.
