A video about media and women/body image
I find this video rather good. It's about how advertisement influences us, to put it short and nice.

What do you think?

Warning:  Features pictures which might be triggering. However, they are used to illustrate the lecturer's point.

that was very interesting, thanks for posting it!
the particularly disturbing part for me was about the portrayal of woman as little girls, virginal/sexy, etc ... and also the 'silencing' and violence against women.
i take AS level media studies and had to do an analysis of this: http://www.joystiq.com/media/2006/04/adcritic_hitman_pcgamer_BIG.jpg for an exam. argh!
it drives me mad that the way we are taught advertising & marketing in media studies class is basically that sex sells. every ad we study relates to sex. i've long since given up sticking to the required assessment objectives for that subject.

Finally got it to work tonight.

Very well done video. It's disgusting how the advertising industry DOES dehumanize women as sex objects. The message the entire industry sends is 'Be hot. Be thin. Otherwise, you're not going to find someone because you're not worth it.' And I HATE that.

what a great video- it's so empowering to realize that social pressures to be thin/beautiful/passive etc are not what's "right" "good" or "normal."
